  1. Had a very interesting morning. Snuck into woods early. Looked around and said. That doesn't look like a turkey. Yup, it's a bear. 5 seconds later this bear ran straight at me. I can't post the video but these screens shots show how close he came before I stood up and scared him away. The morning hunt went well too.

  4. I went out for a quick walk after I did chores at my friend's farm. I hiked up a log road into the hardwoods behind the barn, calling on a diaphragm call every once in awhile. There was tons of scratching under the beech trees. I decided to sit and listen for awhile. Broke out my cheap Primos slate and got a very distant gobble. He gobbled on his own after a couple minutes of the silent treatment. I cut the distance and he answered, but didn't seem to be moving. I crept up behind a chunk of ledge and could see jake fan and a bunch of red heads. They were on a ledge 100 yards away. It turned out to be a giant jake flock (or two jake flocks combined). I cut on the slate and alternated with the mouth call. What a ruckus! 10 jakes all gobbling together! After firing them up good I went quiet and scratched in the leaves. After 5 or ten minutes of quiet I purred and clucked and soft yelped facing away from them. 5 of them got in single file and found a spot to climb off the ledge. I got them to 25 feet before they figured out something was up. They were really little with 3" beards that stuck out straight. They putted, but I would yelp and they would come back. I fooled with them until almost noon and when they drifted away I dropped over the hill and got out of there. Lots of fun, but not the birds I was looking for.

  9. No internet all weekend so I'm late as usual to the show! I went with a friend to Birdsall and hunted State land. Real windy Friday so no roosting although we tried. Saturday we hike 2 different areas and not a gobble, but at a 3rd spot I did manage to get a hen going and called in a hen and Jake to 60 yds. no shot opportunity. Sunday we got to that spot early and heard 2 maybe 3 gobbling on the roost but they were a ways off and on posted property. So we set up near the property line and called, I know they responded to me so I decided to just sit it out for a while. About 9:30 I decided to try a few clucks and Bam! 1 gobbled real close. He was coming in fast, straight in front of me. I was patiently waiting for him to keep coming and suddenly he turns and runs down the hill away from us. I turned to look at my buddie and he's fidgeting trying to get his gun in position! I'm sure that longbeard saw him move, Dam!

  10. Meanwhile we know two families who’ve returned from vacations in the free states of Texas and FLA where its open and mask free and are now planning on moving out of ny ASAP . One is a retired couple we know, who recently bought their “ retirement home “ here in NY, they returned from winter in FLA , to our rules and shut downs and said wtf. They sold their home to a daughter and are picking which free state to move to , he doesn’t want FLAs hot summers . The second is our neighbors daughter , her family went to Texas, loved it so much they’re looking for jobs there now . Little taste of Freedom goes a long way it seems . Many are done with it. We were shopping at BJs ( if you have a pool you’d better have a summers supply of chlorine by now ) and saw 3 people shopping mask free, so we took ours off , I’ve been going to to parties of over 100 guys, mask free , and we stop when we feel like it not some made up Gov. time on a clock .

  11. Fresh turkey breast from yesterdays harvest. My son who was with me insisted we eat some of it right away. So I wrapped one piece in bacon and the other piece of the breast I stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeños and wrapped it in bacon as well. My boys crushed the plain one.....and insist on going out more to try and tag out. Sent from my SM-A716V using Tapatalk

  16. I have tomorrow off but looks like rain and cloudy... just not sure if it's worth the effort, although my best bird came in the rain. At least it'll be warmer and not windy I guess. I've found the first 2 weeks, the first especially are the most effective at seeing birds so I don't want to waste the opportunity either. I'm a fair weather turkey hunter, I know, but I love sitting in the edge of that field when the warm sun crests over.

  17. Well did the Charter out of Catskill this morning ! I (my first time Striper Fishing ) scored on two nice fish ! One was 37 in. and the other was 43 in. ! Try and imagine how tough it is when the Charter Boat Captain says " Your fish is too big , back it goes " !!! I've NEVER been accused of having ANYTHING that was too big !

  19. We had two hammering on the roost. Then they did what they always do, flew down just out of sight and strutted and gobbled until the hens joined them and off they went in silence. Setup for a couple hours and snoozed. On my way home I pulled a Hail Mary at a local spot. I came in from the East and thought I could see him on the gas line. So I crawled out to a tree and setup. Started calling and bam he appears in the field, strutting. Then a hen joined him and I thought it was game over but as he came closer, she'd stay close by eating. This went on for 30 minutes or so. He gobbled twice. He finally broke and came into the tall grass and walked right at me and I crushed him at 40 ish. He went down like I dropped an anvil on him. He came about 325 yards. He's not my best as far as Spurs but he's the biggest by far, just shy of 25lbs I attempted an in the field timer pic and failed LOL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  20. Really needed some woods time . Went to local spot last week to listen. One bird gobbling. Went back today and hit the owl tube at 5, 5:10 and finally he hit me at 5:20. I climbed almost into his living room. Now he’s gobbling on his own. Maybe 100 yards off. Soon a hen 30-35 yards off starts tree talk then another cutting hard. He’s double and triple gobbling. So I joined the fun and cut hard. This Tom was coming fast. I knew he’d crest a small ridge and boom there he is full display at 60. Hens still tree talking but he’s headed to the one on the ground. Me ! I did not want to get into a pissing match with these gals. I then went soft purrs and scratching only. He’s still coming. More tree talk by others. He comes in to about 40 yards tilting his fan . I’m only scratching leaves now. He comes another 5 yards . Burris fastfire 3 on. Tactacam ready to go on barrel. Started to get into some thick stuff so aborted tactacam. Red dot on his head. Squeezed off a 3.5 tss 7 and bang no flop. Finally the hens pitch out. Quick hunt but awesome . 20.5 lbs -1” Spurs - 8.75” beard

  21. That is certainly a lot of assumptions there. Lazy? Uneducated? Unethical? Wounding deer? Not looking for the wounded deer? The vast majority of crossbow hunters are "ALSO" bowhunters!! I just never think it's a good thing to talk down other hunters, who choose to legally hunt differently than you.

  23. @Biz-R-OWorld @The_Real_TCIII My opinion is YES, stick with ethanol free on your small engines. Overtime it will deteriorate plastic, and rubber components in the engines fuel system, which will create buildup, etc...this buildup can clog filters, accumulate in the carb bowl, and in the jets, and so on. If you decide to stick with regular gas(w/ethanol) try to keep the gas tank full when not in use(especially winter storage) I like to run them out of gas as ethanol slowly absorbs moisture, which can overtime start rusting/corrosion of carburetors...etc. Same goes for your gas can you fill your equipment with...took a class on this stuff as I am a Parks Dept Foreman of 17 years. Not an expert, but this is correct info.

  25. I really hate to think there are elitist hunters out there with your mindset, disgrace to all hunters. Sound more like a troll trying to screw with these threads then a hunter with an opinion. What is it that scares you elitist about the crossbow? Is it that I will kill all your deer? I still till this day have not seen one valid and factual reason as to why not allow crossbow into full inclusion.

  29. Jenn, and I were having dinner a few minutes ago...phone alerted me of motion out front. I check the clip, and a deer ran from the back, towards the front...so I was curious as to why, as its pretty unusual for deer to be spooked here. I flip the switches to light up the back yard, I see something standing about 50’ away, I open the window, and he doesn’t flinch, I was unsure at first if it was a dog, or small deer....I yell at it, and it turns...I see a long bushy tail....definitely a coyote. This was the first for us to see a coyote not run off due to our presence.

  36. I will be the contrarian to Rob and say " Yes " . Ditch the ethanol free gas . At least for the summer while using it mowing every week . My mower and 4 wheeler did the same thing. Ran way better after I went back to regular gas .At the end of the summer I try to use up most of the tank and then add a maybe a gal of ethanol free gas , let it run thru the system , shut the gas line off and let it run till it burns up the gas in the line and carb. Never had a problem doing this and a better running machine.

  37. Fun morning hunts! I called for my cousin this morning and he missed a bird at 10yds. called him in again but he didn’t get a clear shot. Went by another spot and saw some strut tees from the road. About 400yds from the corner of the property I have permission to hunt. Had to make a big loop around and called as load as I could, 5 minutes later I could see red heads coming down the hedgerow. There was at least 2 longbeards but they were bringing up the rear and he didn’t wait for them. His first bird in 15 years and he was pumped! The longbeards kept coming after he shot but I didn’t want to use my 2nd tag already at least not that way so I let them mosey off. Dropped him off at his house and went to another property and played cat and mouse with a long beard for a couple hours. 12 o’clock alarm went off before I got a chance at him.
