Back when I was a young fellow I went on a scout merit badge excursion with a friend of mine. We went on a hike and the deal was he had to start a camp fire and cook a simple meal which was to be bacon and scrambled eggs. His dad made sure he had all the latest gear including the mess-cooking kit, the thing that really caught my eye and impressed me was his Boy Scout knife in the Hobo style, bottle opener, spoon, knife and fork. I thought that was about the neatest knife I had ever seen and thought to myself some day I am going to have me one of those knives. Well that was over 60 years ago and the Hobo Boy Scout knife was long since forgotten. That was until the recent edc knife thread got me poking around on ebay to see what would catch my fancy. well he finally finished to finish coats. Last night I installed the hutch face and mounted the drawers. Move into it's spot in the house on Sunday and just need to drill 2 cable management grommets in once she decides where she is placing the electronics.

Section 1 Class B Championship today for my boy’s varsity team. Been a wild road to get here for them including a walk off win on Wednesday afternoon which was a game that started Monday and was suspended due to darkness in the top of the 10th. Bottom of 11th walk off sac fly to win it. And then a walk off win Thursday in the 9th. TONS of extra baseball!!! Wanted to put this out there for a couple reasons. The last project we did his wife drove me bonkers on finish colors. we ended up custom mixing to get what she wanted. She has no vision and unless it is on the exact wood in the exact size, she can't picture anything. Didn't want to spend the money on all solid maple but didn't like the normal grain variations in plywood veneers. Well I told he is had to be a stock stain color and bring us the stain and that is what she was getting. Well she strolled in to Lowes and listened to the lady in the paint department and brought home a minwax GEL stain. My friend thought he would get a jump on the finishing and help move the project along so he applied the sanding sealer and started applying the gel stain. I would have sent her back for regular stain. The Gel stain sucks. It forms a barrier that will not allow for additional coast of stain to deepen the color. DO NOT USE THIS CRAP. So here we sat with a desk that would not take any more stain (even normal stain) and she wanted a much darker color. Luckily she wanted kind of a distressed look so we pulled out the sprayer and mixed small amounts of regular mahogany Minwax stain in the polyurethane and started coating...and coating....and coating. It got to the finish she wanted and then we top coated with straight ploy becasue the stain addition makes the finish a bit soft. There is a hutch that goes on the desk and we will start the assembly tonight. We finished this unassembled because all the inside corners make it a bear. I'll post up pics when that is done. I really enjoyed this build and think I will start doing more of this. She wants to see a test piece for a poured glass epoxy top so I may be doing this to the desk.

Texas got rocked by LA , I think we were eliminated from the playoffs after May 1st,unreal. Kershaw was looking good . How crazy is it that he was Matt Stafford s center in high-school football and Stafford was his catcher in high school baseball. I dont think I know of another duo of that caliber to play at the same high-school together.

Another grind today. Had the limit on, lost two at the boat . One came off and hit the net on the way. Guy that fishes there everyday said he is seeing the same grind to get a limit. But good day nonetheless. And lunch with Charlie.

Isnt that what happened before? The banks loaned out everyone money to buy inflated houses and when the housing market declined they didnt think they had to keep paying their high mortage payments because their house was worth half what they paid ,and did the adult thing and took jackhammers to the inground pools ,smashed the granite counter tops ,ripped all the cupboards out before the bank took the house back they stopped paying on.

It's funny, one of the top political posters and among those always whining about rights being taken away is upset on how others spend their money? Sure, lets make it illegal for people who can afford inflated prices to buy a house, because that makes sense. Next we can barge into the automotive sales market and make it illegal to buy a car with any bells and whistles because people seem to like those frilly things on vehicles. Buyer: "I'd like the heater included with my truck." Dealer: "I'm sorry, we can't do that because some ass hat passed a law about options on new trucks being illegal." Doesn't anyone think anymore?

So this is New York State Logic. My daughter recently used the NYS Thruway. They no longer collect tolls, so they sent a bill for .28 cents. They paid .38 cents postage, printed a bill put it in one envelope and enclosed another for the return payment. Makes perfect sense to me. How about you?

Update. I poured the epoxy top last Thursday before we went to camp so it sat for a week prior to messing with it. The hutch is done but the face trim is being finished this week. I HATE finishing around all the inside corners so it was all cut and dry fit prior to finishing. Should be able to put up finished pics next week.

Hunt more work less

i plan on at least one day of still hunting in the Dacks. Last year i went up for a day to an old stompin ground i havent hunted in 25 years. And I really enjoyed myself. Prob the best day hunting all year. I got to within about 50 yards of a a grunting spike/3 point, but didnt take him as it was before the southern gun opener and I already had 2 deer in the freezer. But it was such a nice day. Still hunted in and out for about a 2.5 mile round trip. Wet ground and wind in my face toting the 30/30. Really enjoyed it and plan to at least do a day of that every season.
