  1. The buck is home! Great job @WNY Bowhunter!!! Thanks again! Now I just need to figure out it’s permanent spot on the wall.

  2. I figured I would end the season properly with a full success story... Enjoy! With a baby on the way, then a newborn, and work that is heavily impacted (busier, more stressful) by the pandemic, hunts were certainly limited this year. I still got out for some hunts, but they were only for an hour or two at a time. October came and went, and I saw some deer but never sealed the deal. My son was born on November 6th, and after a Friday and Saturday in the hospital, I was able to sneak down to my property to check cameras and see that just like in past years, the big bucks were moving in daylight. I also got pictures and video of a big new 8 point. He was on 3 cameras on the property, two days in a row. I got a nice early start on Saturday November 14th. It was a beautiful November morning, a little warmer than normal, about 36 degrees. I was in a stand on the top of a small ridge, facing West, the direction that bucks normally approach, and there was a slight wind in my face, perfect for this stand. About an hour into the hunt I heard leaves crunching behind me, and I suspected squirrel, but then they really started sounding like footsteps. He busted out of a treeline about 60 yards away, behind me, but a little to the North, so he couldn’t smell me. I could tell it was a nice deer, it looked like a small bodied deer with a big, wide rack. I knew if he gave me a shot, I was taking it. As soon as he left the treeline, he ran to within 30 yards and stopped to my right, slightly downhill. He was undecided on which way to go at that point. He started walking directly away from me, then stopped, spun around, and started back in the direction that he came. Luckily, he paused, turned again, made up his mind, and started walking on a path that angled toward my stand. As he got closer, and passed behind a tree I shifted in my stand and took the safety off my crossbow. He was at a fork in the trail that would’ve led him right in front of me (broadside at under 10 yards), or away from me at a sharp angle. I didn’t want to roll the dice and let him head away. He was stopped downhill from me, looking in my direction and slightly quartered-to at 25 yards. Aiming a few inches behind his left shoulder, and about 2/3 up his body, I squeezed the trigger. He kicked his back legs up so high he almost flipped over and sprinted over the ridge. It was a quiet morning, and as soon as he left my sight, the loud crunching of leaves stopped. I waited a few minutes for my hunting partner to come over. It turns out the deer had walked under his stand on its way to me. He didn’t have a clear shot, but he got a good look at the rack. His first words to me were “You are the luckiest guy I know… that’s a huge buck”. We quietly checked the arrow and saw great blood. I pointed in the direction that I saw him go, and as I started to say “Let’s give him some time”… We saw him, only 30 yards away. He was bedded down, facing away from us, with his head up. As we debated either waiting it out, or sneaking around to take a second shot at him, we heard a loud crash. His head dropped down and he was done. As we walked up to him, we saw he was a big deer, with an even bigger rack. I had just killed my best buck yet. Quickly, cleanly, and almost stress-free, it was done, and the hard part was about to begin. We dragged him halfway out, and decided to finish the rest using the jet sled, which was grossly undersized for him. He weighed 205lbs and had 9 points. The 9th point was small and on the inside of his right side. Turns out he was the “new big 8 point” that just started showing up on my cameras. Examining the shot, I had hit a little bit further back than I intended, maybe because I misjudged his size, or maybe I pulled the shot a bit. And luckily, he was not quartered-to by very much. I used a Rage extreme 4 blade, which is a hybrid broadhead. It functioned perfectly, taking out his left lung and just about cutting his liver in half. I was excited about the timing, because I knew there was cool weather in the forecast, and I’d be able to hang the meat to age it. Since I knew he was my biggest buck yet, I decided to get a shoulder mount done. I caped him out, and reached out to @WNY Bowhunter. I was pumped when he told me he could do it, and I met up with him the next day. It was great to meet him, see his shop, and even learn a little about the taxidermy process. (And see a few other member’s impressive racks). Jason gross scored the buck at 139 5/8 inches, which as expected, beat my former personal best, a wide 8 point, by almost 30 inches. This year will be memorable for a lot of good and bad reasons, but I certainly can’t complain about my deer season. We still had a decent amount venison from last year’s great season, and were able to add another doe to the freezer. So even though my deer sightings were down, and my hunts were limited… to have my first son born and to take my biggest buck within 8 days of each other led to a truly incredible 2020 season.

  6. so kinda a kick in the pants but .... as many of you know i have been hoping for one bear pic on cam - have never had one. And also i have always wanted to get one NY bear. SO the location i can no longer hunt as of end of last season - the owner sent me a message and said a bear had been spotted up there twice this summer! lol. Gotta love it. Where i hunt they just reopened bear season i think 2 years ago and the whole area might take 2 all year. And never any close to where i hunt. But apparently there is a bear there now and of course i cant hunt there....... And yes chances of it sticking around or being there during season are prob slim. But like it has been said "theres a chance!" If i was still able to hunt there now it would be plastered in trail cams!!! But maybe the other spot that i now hunt will eventually get some. It has always seemed like great bear looking territory. No hard feelings on it but gonna miss it even more this season. It was also my best turkey spot and really missed it this spring. But for Deer hunting i am more than content with what i still have. Who had to put a bear in play damn it!!! lol

  9. I can certainly relate Rob!! Dying to get a pic of one or better yet, see one!! It was on the local news earlier this week that a bear was spotted 4 miles from my house. The mayor suggested people remove their bird feeders, as not to risk attracting…… so I FILLED mine!! LOL Crossing my fingers!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. A couple of good picts from a food plot on my property. That was a big Sow with 3 cubs close to 2 yrs old. They needed to leave Momma!

  12. Theses are from a couple of years ago right near me, as near as I could tell there were about 20 different bears around within about a five mile radius. Sadly, someone started feeding a sow and her two cubs. They got into sheds, camps and the town recycle center and lost all fear of man.

  15. I have a 2000 Baja Hammer and the interior was getting a little rough. Split seam on rear bench, couldn't get the sundeck perfectly clean, captains chair had a split in it. I removed all the interior and brought it out to an Amish guy in Fultonville last week and picked it up this morning. I was super thrilled with the price i was charged but i feel like all the new vinyl is installed too loosely and its wrinkly. I said something about it and he said it will tighten up when it shrinks and all the wrinkles will come out and that i won't have to worry about seems splitting when it does. This sort of makes sense to me but new boats don't come with loosely installed interior.....Maybe i'm just being too anal with a 20 year old boat. I'll post some pics when i get home and get it installed.....Hopefully it all looks good in the boat and i won't notice as much when i'm not look at individual pieces....

  19. I’ve been lucky. In 3H there are plenty of bruins. This guy seemed to sit down perfectly centered and took a few selfies with my trail camera. 30 minutes into last opening day I dropped my 5th bear off my property in 23 years.

  21. I would love to buy it. Played the lotto for Tonite. The two houses there are really nice. Central air, central vacuum, indoor vented grills, oak bars, . One is three floors. The cabins I would hand a few out to family and friends and a couple for guests. Dare to dream...

  25. Honestly Rob, it was likely a 2yr old kicked off by mom roaming for new territory. They have been seen on my property and near the one I lost at this time of year over the past few years but are long gone by season. If it makes you feel better, you probably aren't missing out on hunting that bear.

  27. bought some arrows ....and.....thats it. Prob take bow out to check it over soon. Then start shooting a little in late July/ early August. Used to shoot all summer but all i do is get in my own head with tweaking. I will shoot a few times and then lets go. Pack is still ready from last season and already restocked with some cleaning gloves. I will have to wash hunting clothes and then hang them in my little hunting gear shed - prob early August. new thing to this years list is food plots. Will start those end of July/early August . Whatever weekend looks best around there.

  31. i hunt on the family farm of a few hundred acres that's part of but on the edge of a qdm co-op that's thousands of acres. it depends a lot on when they cut, how often, and what they plant. if it's a combo with alfalfa then it'll have some draw. if they plant forage rye grass (not cereal/grain/cover crop rye) then you'll have absolutely zero draw. our family farm started out in all corn and all those carbs per acre pulled in a lot of deer. corn or soybeans on neighbors now draw bucks off our property during early season, prior to peak breeding. that said hay ground unless cut very early will turn your property into a doe and fawn factory. these older doe family groups outside of the rut will push bucks out. so don't expect the same summer buck bachelor groups you're used to seeing. at the same time those doe family groups establish with a smaller home range and can draw bucks in during the rut. pick a spot at the fringe of your farm easiest to access and do all antlerless harvest there early season. don't take doe otherwise, even if they're busting you. hay fields are also wide open so keep in mind they might not provide the same cover to access your stands early in the season like standing corn.

  33. I meant to post this a week or so ago but forgot to. I was in the DSG in Greece the other day and they had more ammo on the shelf than I've seen recently. I took a pic but it's not loading. They had 9mm, .38, .45, .30-06, .308, .17, 6.8. 6.5, etc.. and they were stocked deep in those calibers along with some shotgun target / small game loads. Between that and what others are posting on here, maybe the worst is behind us.

  34. Remember, The whole angus fad is mostly marketing. The main difference you will find in beef is the way the cattle are finished. Finding a farmer who grass feeds but still puts the grain to them at the end will make good beef.

  38. Mine has the easy slot fenders that have button you insert into the slots on the side of the boat. No bumper cleats just a slotted design to drop he fender into. It has standard cleats front middle and rear on port and starboard sides. I’ll see if I can find a picture of the fender design. Basically these, you can see the circles down on the side of the boat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  40. Figured I would put these on here in case any of you were interested. Located in Rochester NY. First is my used Craftsman 10", direct drive table saw. It is a model 113 and has the rip fence, miter gauge and guard. Works as it should. 24" rip capacity. 110 volt, so just normal outlet is fine but I always ran it on a 20 amp circuit. I need a bigger capacity to do the furniture we are starting to work with. $150. Next up is a brand new, in the box, never opened Dewalt 735x planer. 13" wide and 6" thickness. Infeed and outfeed tables and extra blades included. This is the best benchtop you can get and this price is less that you will find it. Currently on Amazon for $600 and add tax and you are at almost $650. We just decided to look for a larger floor mount unit. $550
