It is finally alive, been acquiring parts from all over the US to build a three hundred and thirty eight Winchester mag Thompson Center Encore. She came out pretty well I think. Waiting for some brass which is terribly hard to get these days to handload some test rounds. I once had a very accurate Sako Finnbear in 338 and still have the loading equipment so getting this one stoked will be easy. Took several head of big game and and probably a couple of dozen woodchucks with that Sako rifle, some good memories. The hardest part was getting the 338 barrel, they are rare and I was outbid a bunch of times on any that came up on ebay and gun broker, once I had the barrel picking up the rest of the parts was was not bad. Every part was used except the walnut forend. Al12 points

Thank you. It’s been a LOng time coming. It is a really beautiful property. The east and west boundaries are deep (300 plus) deep ravines/gorges with spring creeks…waterfalls. Mix of hardwoods and conifers. Small spring fed pond in the woods. Here is a picture from one of my box blinds last fall.10 points

Can see another box blind down below. 4 more to put in. We have pictures of 4 different bears this year. 2 bruisers. One big male was following a female. Great turkey population. Saw a giant 8 last year 5 mins after legal shooting hours. We are excited to be able to walk out the back door and hunt such a beautiful property. My uncle screwed me in a parcel he promised to sell me for 25 years…then this came up. More than twice as large…more diverse…and half the price.6 points

I've been looking around for a target specifically for broadheads. I happened to be in Runnings and looked at what targets they had. They had Block 6x6 targets for $99 and after a price search, I saw that all other places were selling them for $110-$120. Then I happened to notice a stack of the same items for $69. They had a sign that they were marked down, due to "blemishes". They had scuffs and very minor dents in them, but that's it! I decided to snatch one up, knowing I would be putting a lot more "blemishes" on it anyways! If you're in the market, check it out...5 points

I just purchased 160 acres of heaven in the NZ. Will be building a house next year. It has 15 tillable acres. For planting plots etc. heavily timbered with old logging toads throughout. Im looking for an all around tractor for discing..brush hog…maybe tilling….firewood…skidding smaller logs….snow removal ….thinking 35-45 Hp…front loader a must Been looking at new Mahindras snd Kubotas…today i saw a gorgeous 2004 Cub Cadet 8404…41 hp…4wd…340 hours….loader….8 speed forward and reverse…quick shift…articulating and adjustable 3 pt hitch arms…..independent rear hydraulics…quick attach loader bucket….owned by a mechanic. Sounded beautiful. Much stronger looking tractor and loader/bucket than either the Mahindra or Kubota $15,000 firm Any thoughts? I simply never see them. It looks like the perfect set up5 points

Roast beef sandwich (venison is half gone so time to start rationing), with a side of fresh picked summer squash. The yellow beer goes well with the yellow squash.2 points

A lot of unhappiness in our program. As I stepped up to coach after the coach dropped out for my sons 9u travel team. We are the B team supposedly not as good as the A team. Well my boys won more games in regular season than the A team and has won more games than any B team at any age in our associations history (6) and we are playing for the league championship next week. We played the A team Monday in the rain and guess what we won8-2. I had A parents come up to me after the game and said I want my son on B next year. All I was thinking when they were talking was you were the ones that said if my son isn’t in A we are pulling him. I’m not bragging because we could fall apart next season and I have no control on who gets put on my roster. But I’m all set with my kids. To all parents out there if your son or daughter happens to land on the b or even c team let them play and develop. Don’t be cocky we all want our kids to be on the best team. But it’s about reps not sitting in the bench.2 points

LOL, Dan I have to agree somewhat on the look of the TC Encores, they certainly do not have the beautiful flowing lines of design like a Ruger Number 1 or a Winchester High or Low wall. What captures my admiration for them is their versatility, it is truly a single firearm for almost any kind of hunting. Once a frame is acquired the sky is the limit, muzzleloader barrel, Turkey shotgun barrel, regular shotgun barrel, just about any rifle barrel can be had including rimfires. Stocks of many designs and materials are also available. To top it off they perform, accuracy is top notch and despite their quirky looks the ergonomics are superb. Bottom line once you mess around and get some experience with them they grab you. As for the 338 Winchester mag cartridge I wanted to own one again more out of a nostalgia thing than anything else and try to make up for the dumbass move of trading off the Sako Finnbear many years ago. With the new lightweight bullets available for the 338 these days the old shell takes on a whole new perspective. Back when I handloaded for my first one a 200 gr bullet was the lightest available and the cartridge was considered by most to be suitable best for game on the large side like Moose, Elk and big Bears and for a lot of the plains game of Africa. Today there are bullets to be had weighing 185 175 and 160 grs for Deer, they not only shoot laser flat they also reduce recoil considerably. I picked up a couple of boxes of Barnes 160 grain copper bullets and their loading data gives recipes that send those bullets screaming at 3400 fps. If they shoot accurately which by all accounts they do we have a long range Deer proposition that takes no backseat to anything. Al2 points

I took my first buck/deer with my .50 cal pedersoli at 75 yards. Ran 25 yards and piled up. I still use it and probably will never use any other blackpowder gun for deer hunting.2 points

I have killed several whitetails with a PRB in my TC Hawken.....Longest shot I made with one was about 65-70 yards... I have killed deer with everything from a .222 Rem with a 50 grain bullet to a 9.3 x62 with a 270 grain bullet, plus shotgun slugs... If any of these killed deer any quicker or more efficiently ( given good shot placement) than my .50 Hawken with PRB I can't remember it...2 points

Fine rifle, Al....Love the walnut, love the deep blue, love the quality, love the caliber, no doubt one of the very best medium bore chamberings... But DAMN, what an ugly design....If I had a dog that ugly I'd shave his ass and make him walk backwards....<<grin>>.....2 points

Grilling chicken halves while honoring our fallen heroes. This four pack is brewed by four different breweries in the Rochester area and each beer is specially brewed in honor of one of the three National Guardsmen who died in a helicopter crash in Mendon this year. A real great gesture and fundraiser for the families. This one is a nice IPA brewed by Rising Storm. The others are equally tasty but most importantly they raise funds to support the families of those who died in service to the country. Can’t think of any better reason to tip one back. Salute. You heroes.2 points

In the commission of the current gun violence are criminals NOT breaking currently standing laws? What needs to happen is enforcement of standing laws, NOT throwing money at the problem, writing more stringent laws, filing more lawsuits. But NOTHING will happen until someone who is a criminal get's held accountable and punished....it seems the Democratic way has become, scream there's a problem, throw dollars at it, vilify the masses and not punish those INDIVIDUALS responsible..... so fed up with the BS thinking. If my dog pisses on my couch every day do I punish my dog or the dogs in the neighborhood who are behaving?2 points

Corn is good, but you can do even better with the right seed blends. providing you have a good sized plot. especially with available cover nearby. Seed blends are best because you offer a "buffet style" dinner plate. certain species are preferred at certain times of the season. If its your first plot, I highly suggest a good big seed blend(like a deadly dozen type) to see what the deer will eat, and as mentioned before in other posts, Brassicas sometimes wont get eaten for a couple years. And if that's how these deer are, Its best to start with a blend, as they eat the species they like they are only tempted to try the big leaf plants they never seen before while feasting on the rest.. Just my opinion.1 point

I got a pic of a piebald spike at my old camp a few years ago. I got a pic of it the next year in the exact same spot and he was sporting a decent 8pt rack 14-16" wide. Unfortunately, the neighbor shot him later that year...1 point

For an update on my Daughter possibly joining 10U Travel.... They couldn't get us much information at all except and I quote "a tournament over memorial day weekend and July 4th weekend and maybe some others" They had so little information on travel that even the Coach couldn't get any information and backed out. So in the end she staying with the 8U house team and they are holding optional practices every Tuesday for those that want to come out. We went last week and she was 1 of 5 girls to show up. The best part is those 4 others that showed up are her best friends so she basically got to practice and goof around with her best friends for an hour and a half.1 point

I have my dad's in 35 Rem and my grandpa's in 300 Sav. Both are 5 diamond guns produced in the late '50s. I'm sure there are a few out there, but I've never met one that couldn't shoot little groups. Good luck with yours. For the yardages you stated, your set up is perfectly dialed in.1 point
