  2. Only pic I had of him so far this summer was early July. I did see him through binos a couple weeks ago in a neighboring field... The finished product. He lost a small g4 but certainly grew in the G2 dept. I'm a bit disappointed that his one brow is so short as I call him "Brows"...lol. Last year...

  4. Let's take a guess here; the democrats are in power so: the price of energy at the pump will increase drastically; the government will support the lazy and unwilling; consumable goods prices will rise as supply falls and falters; spend billions on "infrastructure" and environmental projects and we'll enter another "CONFLICT" in the Middle East.....and if we are really dedicated and schooled career politicians we can blame all this on any previous administration.. Any bets out there ?

  5. Put in another food plot area in a trail this morn. And pic of area we did three weeks ago is growing like crazy. That prob it for work there for a couple of weeks and then we will start trimming shooting lanes for all the stands and put on new straps. Unless I decide to go tomorrow too. Lol. Last pic is the 9ft stand we have tucked in by the area we put in food plot. Can you find it?? Lol. It is buried in there. Also took down one treestand we are going to replace it next time out. Season is coming,!

  6. It will depend on what kind of hunting methods and techniques one employs, if you are still hunting, snow tracking or using drives it is guaranteed you will be seeing plenty of running Deer. Sitting in a blind or up in a tree stand not so much and from what I see on this board that appears to be the way most Deer hunting is done these days. Also shooting practice on game that is moving is not restricted to Deer, small game hunting and upland game shooting is invaluable for learning good hunting marksmanship. Al

  8. Definitely. After completing the last few heads from this past season I'll be at approximately 165 deer mounted since starting back in 2015. I take $250 down before ordering forms and sending the cape to be tanned. Luckily, I've yet to have an issue with someone picking up there mount.

  12. Though I was ahead of the game with IT's in the mid 130's with 6+ hrs to go. Once the IT's hit the mid 150's, we hit the stall. And it was a stubborn stall, lol. 3° in 2.5 hrs. Now while technically we were in the safe zone because the safe zone for pork is 145°, if a customer or there guess even think they see pink pork, they freak out. This is why I like to take my whole hogs to the 170's. The belly meat and some of the hinds will start to pull, the rest will slice, a good mix. Got the hog to 170+ at 3pm. Pulled it from the pit and let it set for 1hr before digging in. It took less than 30 min for the 100 guests to rid said hog of anything edible. Customer was extremely happy. Said he has never tasted pork this juicy and flavorful. Got thumbs up from all their guests.

  16. I have a fair amount of taxidermy done by a couple of folks. The running the business end is huge. Most are overwhelmed by this in my experience. Keep prices and quality high. If you're going to be a pro, get paid like one and there will be enough in it to cover the expenses of running a business, even if that means paying a little for some help on that end. Keep clients in the loop. Most are smart enough if they are paying top dollar that its a long term product they will view for years. No one wants silence on the other end and ignored communications. Good luck.

  18. Running shots are something I would prefer not to employ, however I have not always had the luxury of avoiding them completely. As others have mentioned, the real key to making them is lots of practice. Safety of others is also a big concern (know your target and what is beyond). The last one I took was on a big, late-season doe, about 5 years ago. That shot struck about 4 inches forward of the hair that I intended to hit, breaking the doe's neck and dropping her dead on the spot. What made that shot somewhat difficult, is that I had to time it, for when the doe reached a clear shooting lane. I was up about 10 feet in a stand, and about 40 yards away on flat ground. That made the shot extremely safe. The main reason I took that shot was that I really needed the meat. I had taken just one deer prior that season (a buck with my crossbow), and I had a wife and two kids at home with big appetites. I made the shot, but almost lost a foot to frostbite. I got a good soaker in the cold December ditch water, while crossing it to recover the carcass. That year, I had practiced thousands of moving target shots pre-season. That was before the current ammunition crisis, but even then, I was not one who "wasted" real ammo on practice. All of that "moving target" practice was with my adult-stocked Daisy red Ryder bb gun. This season, I will be far less likely to take a running shot at a deer. I haven't had much time to practice and one kid will be off to college. The other will be working at our town's pizza joint (sadly now under new ownership). I wont need nearly as much venison and should have much more luxury of "picking and choosing" my shots. Some of you sit up on your high horses and criticize others for taking "un-ethical" shots. Good for you. One day you will get what's coming to you. Until then, I will keep eating good, and I prefer wild red meat taken the way I choose.

  19. Enigma, I'm starting to think you work for PETA with all of those disparaging remarks about "most" hunters. 99% of hunters can't shoot well? You even put the word "hunters" in quotes. Once again, friendly fire. I don't know where you hunt or who you hunt with, but I think you need to upgrade your hunting relationships. The people I hunt with are all excellent shots and very successful deer, bear and coyote hunters. The trophies on their wall attest to it. Most are very good at turkey hunting too. But I live in the mountains where these folks grew up shooting rifles at game. I've been at it myself for 50 years now. I can tell you this, most hunters around here can shoot well and few of them spend much time watching hunting on a computer. We actually hunt in the field. I guess your version is a sad reality where you're from, but it's not reality around here. Being country has it's advantages.

  24. Definitely worth considering going full time, your deer are top notch! You definitely have a lot more experience than me (this will be my 3rd year doing taxidermy) but I have a small piece of advice. Look into tanning your own hides. It's not difficult and it will save you a few dollars on each mount. Best of all in my opinion, you can take more control of your schedule. No more waiting for weeks for your capes to get shipped back from the tannery. Worth looking into at least Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk

  25. Long-ish story on this boil. These smoked sausage come from here… Which was a place I would stop with my then girlfriend (now wife of 20 years) on our way home from West Virginia where we volunteered building houses in the Appalachian community. College touring (Lehigh, F&M, Muhlenberg(her fav so far), Lafeyette….) with BroadwayHunter this last week brought us to their doorstep. The liverwurst sandwich I had may be the best ever - and keep an eye on the breakfast thread for another southern classic Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  26. Found a great article which appears to refute the Narrative that getting the vaxx produces superior immunity than natural/aquired immunity and that furthermore, vaxxed people are no longer vectors- it appears they still are. Enough wth the public shaming nonsense and the faux virtue signalling!! This issue isa far more complicated than that and cannot (and should not) be reduced to the following overly simplistic and absurd schema : vaxxed people are virtuous , selfless and knowledgeable vs unvaxxed are mistrusting, paranoid selfish and ignorant- please!!!! A couple of memorable quotes from this document: "Unfortunately, virologists say no commonly-used test can detect with certainty whether a person is immune. A common misconception is that antibody tests can make that determination. But experts say immunity after infection or exposure often comes without a person producing or maintaining measurable antibodies." "Because of that reality, people who have had asymptomatic infections — infections where they suffered no symptoms -- have no easy way to know that they're immune. However, a growing body of evidence indicates that the millions who know they got Covid can be assured they’re unlikely to suffer reinfection, for at least as long of a time period that scientists have been able to measure. Possibly far beyond." "While it's impossible to know whether that's the case, public health officials are grappling with the reality of an increasing number of fully-vaccinated Americans coming down with Covid-19 infections, getting hospitalized, and even dying of Covid. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) insists vaccination is still the best course for every eligible American. But many are asking if they have better immunity after they're infected with the virus and recover, than if they’re vaccinated. Increasingly, the answer within the data appears to be ”yes.”" check out the article here: https://sharylattkisson.com/2021/08/covid-19-natural-immunity-compared-to-vaccine-induced-immunity-the-definitive-summary/

  27. It is very coincidental that this thread popped up today. I'm in the position right now where I'm about to make a major life decision. I have been tossing around the idea of quitting my dead end day job to pursue the taxidermy hobby as more of a full time gig. The money isn't great but all of my interests revolve around hunting/outdoors in one way or another. The main competitor in my home area just quit taxidermy as a side business and I believe that I could easily double my intake if I was proactive about it. Plus, the members of this forum usually toss a few deer my way too...

  28. So still cleaning out a bit and I have 2 6.8 SPC2 uppers. This has a 20” stag varminter barrel (very accurate) and upper receiver. I upgraded the handguard to a 2A armament ultra light with M lok attachment options. It also includes the BCG but will require a swap to a 6.8 bolt (takes 5 min). it is mated to a vortex hog hunter. Really great scope. This combo is great for deer and predators. I also have plenty of ammo to sell if needed and if needed, I could work out a lower for a complete rifle. no need for FFL unless lower is also needed. $495 for upper with BCG $275 for hog hunter. $725 for combo with picatinny Mount. All plus actual shipping costs.

  29. My buddy arrowed this last Nov, and asked me to do something cool with it. I am just a bit disappointed because it doesn’t have enough white in it. I tried to do red white and blue but they red and blue took over too much. Either way, I know he’ll appreciate it but not exactly what I envisioned

  41. Yeah, impact factor isn’t everything but many of the virally shared ivermectin stuff is published in pay-for-play journals or haven’t been peer reviewed. Additionally, a lot of these meta reviews lack statistical/scientific rigor and are written by folks with questionable training, experience, or funding. For instance, this review is written in part by consultants and the work (writing, no actual original research) is funded by a strange ivermectin gofundme. None of these aspects are necessarily disqualifying on their own, but certainly this does not exemplify rigorous biomedical research. Again, there’s plenty of well conducted research on the off label use of ivermectin and the clear consensus is that it’s ineffective for Covid. I’d be thrilled to find a worthwhile study that shows the opposite. It’s curious to see the same group of folks here continuously drawn to fringe and highly questionable narratives. Somehow the far right tag line of “question everything” morphs into “embrace the absurd and incredulous.”

  42. Haha. The sad part is that you don’t but you keep spewing your nonsense and making accusations that are far from the truth. But when called out on something you spin it to look like a victim and shut down. You claimed multiple times that I’ve walked in on your decoy spread and that I’ve confronted you as a member of a hunting party of 4. All so very wrong. But keep thinking it. you have plenty of people doing your talking.

  45. If you are only hunting in the SZ the seasons over lap. BUT in NZ there are areas that are antler only during the special seasons and a blanket statement could cause some legal difficulties.

  46. Technically when you are buying an additional hunting privilege when you buy a bow or ML license. The first special privilege you buy (regardless of which one) gets you an either sex tag. The second one you buy get you an antlerless only. If you buy both the tags are available to be used with either implement in either special season
