  1. And pick up a wonderful piece I had to have of his amazing chainsaw carving skills. Another part of a tribute to my brother Lee . My brother had a bad brain bleed causing him to be connected to life support . He was out west fly fishing Montana, Wyoming as he had for 30 years. I as the POA had to make a decision. Recovery wasn’t going to happen where he could tie flies and fish like he was destined to do. I made the choice in my heart as I know he’d want granted. ( tears as I type this ) . He passed on October 29th ( 1 week after his birthday) . 3 days later I decided I’d strap my climber stand on and head out . Strapped up in a tree by 3 pm. Within minutes I hear a barred owl who who who are you who are youuuuuuuu. It’s daylight out and never heard any owl chime out with the sun at full glare. Minutes later a 4 point buck comes right into me. I’ve already passed slightly better bucks this year and have only shot one doe with my bow thus far. He quarters slightly away giving any bow Hunter the ideal shot you want to take. 11 yards too. Without hesitation I draw back doing what I’ve practiced so many times before . Lee sent me this buck. Arrow hit its mark and buck went a short distance and could see him crash. Buck quickly expired. Every turkey season since I have heard so many owls and have always enjoyed them sounding off. But after Lee sent me that buck I now cherish the owl even more. I look at it is lee is communicating to me through them. Lee fishing Hebgen lake catching gulpers in pic. Big trout on tiny dry flies. They simply inhale them. Miss you big brother.

  5. We’re selling the farm and moving to a place on the St Lawrence River. The farmer we lease to is buying 107 acres, and we’re selling 6 acres with the house and outbuildings. I was able to obtain exclusive hunting rights for my stepson and I :-) It’s bittersweet, but retaining hunting rights makes it easier. Not to mention we’ll enjoy the new view!

  6. 36 years ago I decided to settle down and be a dedicated family man. I thought I did everything possible to make a marriage last, doing things together, almost always saying "I love you" when we parted for the day, trying to do everything I could to make my wife happy. For 25 years it seemed to be working until my ex wife changed over the course of 3 years following an, unnecessary IMO, hysterectomy surgery. Well, after I found out that she had been having an affair over the past 10 years, she insisted on a divorce, but didn't really think things out. I ended up with sole ownership of my farm and just sold it for 2X the equity that I had thought it would bring. I was able to buy a nice place on the edge of Massena and pay cash. That left me with some money to do something for myself. Yesterday I made the 5 hour trip to Patterson, NY and hammered out a purchase agreement on this. A '74 Norton 850 MK II Commando with just over 8,000 mile showing on the clock.

  7. Spent 5-1/2 hours cutting shooting lanes, trimming stands, replacing straps. Got 4 of them done. Everything grew in so bad this year with all the humid days. But we are getting there. Just have to put up ground blind and finish trimming one stand, hopefully tomorrow. Had to quit today I cut so much brush my hands were cramping. But got scrapetree, point, wayback and Littlefield done. Our little kill plots look ok but lots of grass grew back in. The night of 6 inches of rain didn't help much. But can still see some of our mixes growing in there. Hoping to finish a couple of things tomorrow. One other stand to trim CSS but that is gonna be for Corey. It is covered in poison ivy. And he seems to be able to get thru it pretty good. I would pay for it for sure. Lol. Getting juiced for season. Lost my other spot to hunt but really looking forward to focus on hunting here this year.

  9. Had the same problem on my property this past year , I sent the pic's I had from my trail cams to the PD and they found the individual and I received his Info and I called him and told him its no big deal but from Sept. 1st to Jan. 1st to - stay out of the woods - ! When I spoke to him after the local PD spoke to him he was real apologetic and said he saw the cam's so he know I have plenty of pics and that the Cams he saw were Bait Cams which startled him ! I told him to not go looking for the other Cams as I would report him again ! I haven't gotten any more Pics lately of him ! Posted signs are up !

  13. It is amazing how many died-in-the-wool socialists are now heading for the hills and denying all support of Biden. What???.....who me?......Oh no I never even voted for the guy.....Oh no, not me.....Honest. I don't blame you. It has to be terribly humiliating the way everything is turning out for you all. Those people who hated Trump's personality and saw the election as some kind of popularity contest instead of looking at Biden's record an conduct during the campaign have got to be completely embarrassed.

  24. Hey all... Thanks again for all the help. I ended up at the archery forum-great bunch of guys. Chuck and Kevin are awesome as are the rest. Actually started at Smith's point and they completely turned me off by telling me they wouldn't set up a lower end bow for me to shoot but if I want to go 800 or more now only they would let me try some out. Bye bye. Anywho I ended up with a diamond edge camo 320 full set up ready to go. Only thing I replaced is the stabilizer with a 6 in in camo. Currently at #53 probably end up around #58...using 500 arrows. My groupings are actually pretty good about 3 to 5 in off center so far. Still need practice, but I feel confident going into October. Looking forward to being able to be out longer during both season and the traditional manner of harvesting with a bow, being at the range is damn fun too. Picked up a new blind and going to try some scented drags and licking branches.

  30. Hunting Deer with a 243 my bullet of choice would be a 100 gr Nosler Partition loaded hot. With an accurate rifle and a steady rest 300 yards. As for a muzzleloader I am hunting with traditional sidelocks, lead maxi balls with open sights, I limit my shots to around 100 yards. Some of these modern muzzleloaders with scopes and high powered loads shooting pointed bullets can extend the distances almost the same as a cartridge firing modern firearm. Al

  35. Where I picked my license up the other day I asked the guy there about doing it online and he told me a lot of guys come in saying they had problems with it . And I heard that the year b4 that and before that . So I don't even bother with it . Not a big deal to go in person to get the license. Why take a chance that something goes wrong , unless I just don't have the time to go in person I would never buy it online and have to wait for it to come in mail . Btw I got both dmp also .

  37. You're a good man, husband, and father. Deer will be there. Time will not. I feel the same way about my family (just glad my youngest was born in June!) But my season will be much shortened this year because this fall will be the best with my 3-1/2 year old and out family. We're here to make memories and smiles, not stack racks on the wall. Good job!

  40. interesting. So the farmer just finally got over to cut on one corner of the hayfield we plan on hunting. He is just bailing it today. Think it would be worth overseeding with some throw and grow rye ? Ive got a bag left and thought it might make that corner a little "sweeter" for the deer.

  42. Our CCE Nutrition Educator is doing a Zoom Training on "Making Jerky and Canning Meat" on October 7th. If anyone is interested, here is some information. I will say that Diane does a great job with her classes. Making Jerky & Canning Meat: Thursday, October 7, 6:00-8:30 pm Learn how to safely make your own jerky in an oven or food dehydrator. Canned meat is tender and makes a quick meal. Learn the steps to safe pressure canning, a process that can be used for preserving vegetables and soups too. Includes a discussion of proper freezing procedures and materials, plus a demonstration of canning meat.
