Caped and quartered. No great hero pics since we had to work quick. Son led the 3 generations track job, again and got us right to him. Had friend show up so I put her in small orchard I planted 15 years ago.. had this sent to me at 130 .. she passed on little spike.. surprised me as she only has 1 other buck in her life. Told me she wants a big 8 I have on camera... not a bad mid day sit 1 buck in 1.5 hours..

@Belo I suppose anything is possible. The shot felt good and rehearsed, but a few things could have played out that resulted in the missed shot. There may have been a small branch that I didn't see, the mechanical could have opened early.. hell maybe I farted and the force of the air pushed my body forward, resulting in a low shot. Next time I get out I won't monkey with the equip ahead of time.

I used nothing but fixed heads (G4 Montec) for the longest time until I had to track a deer and had a very poor blood trail. switched to Rage no collar mechanicals. Huge bloody holes.

I highly doubt it was the broadheads. So easy to blame our equipment instead of ourselves for a miss. Caulk it up for what it is, a miss.

8 days and I will be in PA with 3 friends on all of our first ever out of state hunt. Can't wait won't be picky. It'll be first legal buck that comes in. It's about the memories not the harvest.

Duck was so good I waited two days to try it again. Pan seared duck breast with french fingerling potatoes from the garden cooked in the left over duck fat. Also snuck some carrots in with the potatoes. To my surprise the FRENCH potatoes didn't give up any taste after par boiling. I always thought everything french gave up at the first sign of adversity.

Quick start this year. Saturday afternoon 1hr hunt and a card pull. 6 does spotted. Let the air out of this great eater

Came in by herself this am, hard quartering away shot, Magnus black hornet ate her up, she went about 50 yards.

My bad, kill the other thread! I had a great morning, a spike and another small buck came in a and fed on acorns for almost an hour, then a lone fawn joined them. They stuck around a while then moved off. Maybe an hour later a doe busted me about 60 yards out (definitely wasnt taking a selfie like a 13 year old). She stared for a long time and finally came in. She walked behind my 33 yard tree and stopped broadside at what I decided was 40. As always its all a blur but I believe she wheeled at the shot because it went in high and back and exited her hip. After a long blood trail and a short grid search I found her. She may be the biggest doe Ive killed

One thing I was able to do was leave some low hanging branches to try and entice a natural scrape. They have taken the bait!! Both different bucks. They have already broken the branch some.

Plots are liking the rain and weather we have been experiencing.

No frost expected in the extended forecast where I live. Hope I get to at least see some deer this year with the gun. Last year I didn't hear any shots on Opening Day.....that's never happened in the last 40 plus years that I've been hunting.
