  1. So, turned out to be an even better day. I shot my ten point at 12:35 and with the help of three friends had recovered and had it hanging by 2:30. My friend and his son then went out on my property for the afternoon and his son scored on this nice six point. His first archery buck.

  2. Not live from the woods but arrowed this guy at around 5:20 last night and recovered it this AM. I thought I heard him go down, but because it was somewhat quartering to I decided to leave it overnight. Deer went less than 100 yards. I will write something up in Crappie's thread. 5. Went out with my son this afternoon. We were in our stands just under an hour when he scored on this buck. I have nicknamed my son Lucky Chuckie. He seems to score every year on a nice buck with his bow. valoroutdoors.com

  7. Had a short morning hunt on the bean field before my sons last JV football game of the season. In before sunrise and had deer all around until sunrise. At 8:45 this up and comer decided to take a stroll looking for a date. Sat until 9:30 then went to game then to a new spot I just got permission at for the evening. I've only hunted here one other time and that was the youth hunt with my son when he got his first so I'm packing the climber. Picked a spot that is pretty thick off the edge of a power line that had 2 freshly opened scrapes. Had a doe go through about 4 then at 5 had what would have been easily at least a mid 120's 8 if his right side wasn't broke off just passed the brow tine. Little later had 2 different bucks grunting on each side of me but no view of either. Just before last light a spike decided to come through. Left the climber hanging on the tree for the morning hoping to get eyes on the one that broke the big 8. First is a pic of the up and comer that is pushing his luck as this is the 3rd time I've passed. 2nd is my son with his 1st.

  9. Where are you out of? I'm off Monday- Wednesday I can try to get you on some stateland deer around me. No promises that I can get you on any but I have some good spots picked out that aren't getting hit and I won't hunt then until gun since my bow tag is filled. I'll offer this to anyone. If they are having a hard time or want a different view let me know. My spots aren't great and can be hard hunting but there are deer in them.

  10. Guess i sat in the wrong spot tonight! This is the buck i drew on last week. I was 50 yards away from him. I did see him a hundred yards away in the field, grunted at him and got his attention, but he would not cone to me. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  12. No idea, but it looks like we are headed to Long Island next weekend. We might meet up with them there. I guess my being there did the trick, because she scored the game winning goal tonight.

  13. Sons shooting 357 Blackhawk with red dot and I’m shooting my SRH 44 with the Leupold . We shot 50 yards off the rest’s and man my 44 really like’s the 270 grain deep curls I loaded . I’ve got him shooting 158 grain hard cast Keith style bullets that he’s shooting ok , so I loaded some 158 xtp’s for him to try and they may be a bit more accurate, ill load up some more and we’ll hit the range again before the gun opener. It was a nice morning to break out the pistols and the range did get a bit busy . Time to shift back into archery mode for this afternoon though .

  15. I saw a few small bucks cruising around yesterday AM. Sat out with my 8 year old and had a couple doe come by us before last light, and a 4 point on their tail. I should have taken a doe, but didn’t. Nothing at all this morning! The boy had fun out there as usual yesterday. He was operating the rattle horns when he could.

  17. Friend just sent me a video of his hunt today. He had a 4pt and 6pt chasing and breeding a doe in front of him for 3 hrs today. He said they both mounted her 2 times.

  18. Afternoon hunt was a bust for me. No deer seen on the upper end of the property. Lower end was the place to be. Hunting partner saw nine with two decent bucks. His daughter, shot at and missed a young buck. Will be back out in the morning. Think I'm going back to where I saw that nice buck earlier in the day.

  19. Crazy minute for me walking back in. Im 200 yards from my back patio, neighbors are mowing, when i think i hear a grunt. Naw...then another...am i crazy? Then some crashing, nope not crazy. I knock an arrow and take a couple steps into a path that leads to the front of my woods. More crashing and out jumps a beautiful buck, stops dead center in the path facing directly at me at 30 yards...i draw but talk myself out of a frontal shot, he spins around and continues chasing a doe followed by a 4pt too. They ripped through my neighbors field, through a part of my woods and then they ate gone...the little 4pt shows back up but no one else. So now i sit here contemplating what to do. I get that doe and buck could be in orleans county by now but do ya think she may come back...stay on the ground, go to a tree...soooo many choices. actually just moved this here, posted in the live from the water first...in a stand 150yards from where they were chasing.

  20. I carry way to much crap to the stand and having everything in arms reach has been a problem for me forever. A couple weeks ago I was thinking someone should make something that goes over the shooting rail where I can keep all my stuff. Then I was thinking I should make something....lol Well after tons of searching, I found this and it's even camo. It's for bedside storage but my first time using it this morning and it's great!

  21. We babysat two neighbor girls and i have a puppy at home. Between barking and crying this morning hunt wasn’t happening. I couldn’t imagine waking them up at 430 making coffee, wife would probably shoot me with my own bow. So ill do mid day to dark.

  24. Ok I'll add my recent experience. November 2nd unit 1C public land. Mid-high 40s in the morning in a clearing in some thick stuff near bedding. Doe comes in quick and have very little time to react but now I know the trail. 30 min later a very nice buck comes in. No time to count points but I saw the antler height and it was a shooter so I grab my bow, hook release, stop the buck perfectly broadside and make a 20 yard shot through the lungs mid body. Donkey kicks and takes off. Im shaking with excitement and adrenaline shortly after. Take down my stand so I can give him some little time. White fletching pink but by this time is 55 degrees and blood on arrow is dried up. Start looking for blood and nothing. I start to panic, is it liver, guts? Grid search for blood begins. Go farther and farther from arrow and still no blood, begin to fill with dread. Finally 50yards from the arrow I find a little drop with some bubbles. I continued to follow a very sparse trail of blood but there was bubbles so I was hopeful but the whole time I was doubting my shot placement. Finally after twists and turns through thicket I found him. Line distance on ONX was 98 yards so he ran well over 100 yards with a great double lung shot. Edit: I was about 12-15 feet up so not very extreme angle.

  25. Recovered and hanging in the barn. I saw a body pass thu a small path a hundred yards away so I gave a couple of grunts and about five minutes later, here he comes. Circled my stand and stepped into a shooting lane at 24 yards. I saw the lighted mock disappear and the buck ran off. Texted a few buddies and they both came over to help track. Forty yards of blood and then nothing. We circled all around the spot and found nothing. I decided to search towards the creek and 85 yards away from last blood he was piled up. Single lung and liver. My first crossbow buck. Debating between a wall mount or a Euro only because it’s my first crossbow deer.

  27. I am in my favorite stand at home for my last hunt of the 2021 archery season. I have not been back here in over a month. It looks like the adjacent white oak is stripped clean of acorns, but the clover and winter wheat plots to my south are looking good. There are two freshened scrapes within 15 yards and I rubbed a bit of evercalm on each licking branch. Hopefully, the goofy looking crab claw 8 point, that taunted me back here a couple times in September, or the little spike and fork horn that I saw a few times, will show up before a half hour past sunset. If not, I will have to try and fill that tag during the late ML season. There will be three “openers” for that this year: NZ (a week prior to SZ), SZ, and Holliday. I should be able to hit all three of those.

  29. What a fiasco for this evening hunt. Daughter and I so we need a double finally decide what stand to sit in and off we go around 1:45. Get to the stand get safety strapped in get the bow up and hung ready to rock and roll when we notice a tree 15 yards away is snapped 1/3 of the way through and is rocking back and forth. Oh heck no! Pack everything up and get out of dodge for plan B. Now we are in a box overlooking some food plots because it was a short walk from where we where. We both have way to many clothes on we had to shed a few layers to cool down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  35. I bumped a couple that were bedded in the brush just beyond my stand when I walked in 1/2 hour before sunrise. Maybe it was the fork horn and button buck that I watched feed out in this clover for over an hour yesterday. Thanks to an unexpected win yesterday, I will be downstate for the state field hockey tournament next weekend. That means this will be my second last archery hunt, so I am in full “anything goes” mode, as far as using my buck tag.

  36. I would agree, albeit I have no direct history with the deer but I wouldn't have guessed anywhere near 5.5... looks like a solid 2.5, maybe 3.5. Sent from my moto g fast using Tapatalk

  39. What a great day, 5 bucks seen including 2 shooters and my number 1 target buck. After the morning hunt I moved a cam to where I thought he was coming from in the afternoons. Mind you I’ve been watching this buck for 2 years now and knew my new stand was in the area but wasn’t sure how close. Any way I need to move this stand about 50 yards and I’ve got him. He did get close today after I grunted him in to 50 but I over played my hand and he spooked and ran back the way he came. A stand move is in order and it should help me set up on this guy. Any ideas on age and score. He seems really big for a 7 to me and he was also a 7 last year The daytime pics are this year the night pics are last year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  40. Had 4 flathead come by this morning. Half hour later, a shooter buck. No shot as he never left the thick stuff. Came out for an hour or so, and headed up in the back till dark. Couple dandy bucks spotted up here yesterday. Coming out of the thick bedding to the left. Putting phone away. Will check back later. Good luck all!
