  4. Best season ever. Killed so far only 2 does - archery she ran 10 yards & gun - dropped her. Passed on a forkhorn. Doesn’t sound like much to all you trophy studs - but it was the first kills on my OWN damn land & it felt real real good. Best venison I will ever eat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. I don't follow ANY of the so called expert hunters. They are only trying to sell you something. "Look what I just shot! You can shoot one too if you use........" No thanks. Let them come to my property! They probably wouldn't even do as well as I do! There is no "magic" anything, to get more game. You need only two things for successful hunting.......experience, persistence. Lots of ordinary hunters on youtube just filming their hunts, that I find much more enjoyable to watch.

  7. Figured id update this a little. Tags went on sale Dec. 1st, my buddy and i were fortunate enough to both get salmon zone B tags for elk. He got 36B for mulies, and i got 28. Those are touching units and ive been doing alot of e scouting on the border of the units. Ill say ON X maps has been huge with the amount of info you can layer on the maps. We also picked up grey wolf tags, from what ive read they are pretty prominent in the area and Idaho wants you to take them if you can.

I felt like I was back at Grandma’s kitchen with Pop sitting at the head of the table with the Carlo Rossi wine on the floor next to him. 10. Very interesting about your dad.. I used to love to ask my grandfather about the war… from what I understand I was pretty much the only Person he would talk to about it. I was young maybe 11 when he passed and found out that he talked to me because I was so interested but that it would take him days to recover sometimes after our conversations He enlisted early in the war and fought from North Africa all the way up through Italy. He survived 3 beach landings. Sicily, Anzio and Salerno. At Salerno he was late to his landing craft and hopped in the second one with the rest of his company. He watch the one he was supposed to be on hit a mine and his entire platoon was killed. After his death I sent away for his military records. I have all of his medals, discharge papers, a few photographs. I am working on trying to get his coffin flag from my uncle to make a display case for it all but that part is not going over so well. But we will see. I’d love for the display to include all those things, plus a M1 Garand, a M1 carbine, and a 1911A1 all of which he carried at one point during the war. Anyway I think it’s him that led me to be fascinated by this portion of American history Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Who else thinks this section brings nothing to the forum. I’m starting to think the Gun and hunting laws belong but the politics and vaccine and all that other crap need to go. Frankly on all sides it has been reduced to childishness. On top of which members who truly used to contribute to the forum now live in that muck. There are also a subset of people rattler aka grouse… storm aka shoots 100 and others who just live in there and pretty much don’t contribute at all. Wouldn’t this be a better use of Mods time instead of banning for a few insults or getting rid of jerkman for posting a gif of someone laughing. @WNYBuckHunter You wanna make the forum great again…. Drain this swamp Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. Access to game rich property sure helps too! I haven't hunted long enough to remember the good ole days before social media. But logic tells me that hunting was less of a competition between hunters and the size of the the antlers on the deer they killed back then. Maybe that was better - no shaming just fun. Nothing wrong with wanting to shoot the biggest buck but why is the question. If you can honestly say it has nothing to do with impressing others, kudos to you. If impressing others is a significant motivating factor, maybe a thought reset is required. And none of this has anything to do with selling products. I think even a new hunter knows better than to believe most of the latest and greatest products are going to make the difference in their success. But what do I know ....

  14. You folks pretty much guessed it right. I had a biologist look at the tooth wear and said,"He could be a few years older than 6½, but there’s no way to dial in on a year beyond 6½ looking at tooth wear." SO: 1.I will get it the tooth aged which will take a while cause I am busy 2. His diet was too farmland too worry about taste. He didn't have to run far for food or shelter as he had 3 swamps refuges within 100 yards of his food source.. I shot him going from 1 swamp to another crossing the soybean field between the two refuges. Having eaten parts already, it is not gamey or tough (I know how to prepare medallions of venison (without the pressure cooker) so it cuts without the need of a knife) 3. Second best shot of my life. Though I practiced at that range, Shooting a buck at a legitimate 389 yards ( As the Leopold laser finder said) is not the same as a paper target. Used a 6.5 x284 hand-loaded 140 grain Sierra SBT, IMR 4831 on a Krieger barrel fitted to a Browning left handed A-bolt action. Yeah Practice!!! 4. I shot one of his grandsons in the same field 2 years ago with the same serrated palmation rack configuration..but he was only 2 1/2 Have a Great Christmas and a Happy New Year and always a SAFE HUNT

  18. This is absolutely true imo, and it is seen on this site and many others , the latest lure, call, ect then add in food plots ect . To many hunters see something on tv and think it's magic and use it buy it , happens with guns as well , watched nwtf founder push 20ga shotguns for tirkeyvon TV show and on YouTube and magazine , every gin at banquet that year was a 20 ga.. Now it's the 6.5 Creedmoor ( basically a .264 mag) been around for decades was considered a wild cat , now it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, yet I now see many post about tracking deer wounded from one , ( the gun will almost always outshoot the shooter) neighbor was looking into one , asked him what his average shot was .. under 70 yards so why are you buying a gun for shooting long range? He ended up with a 45 70 and had killed several animals with it.. pressure from social media and shows simply was pushing his decision . Enter crossbow.. nys regs allow many x Bow that are lethal at reasonable ranges but media is pushing narrow high poundage bows.. so we need to allow this 3k crossbow .. smh.. Long gone are articles that magazines published that let you compare , learn about methods or equipment . now they are all get this watch me use it in this monster, get one and you can kill monsters as well... Imo this is worse thing to happen to hunting in my life time

You always have articulate answers and it puts your opinions in perspective for me. If everyone could comment the way you do, we could all learn a little something. Not that i have to agree with it, but i can and will respect it....

  28. It truly was the greatest generation. To fight a true world war and defend our nation and way of life in a war that was fought with such terrible attrocities. My Dad was a ww2 veteran and just the stories about the country itself being so unified and focused were amazing. Everything at that time was focused on the war effort. He didn't get in due to age til near the end of the war, so he was here at home helping his family get by as his older brother was overseas already until he was old enough to enlist. He joined the army as he didn't want to be on a ship for months and went to basic. After that he was sent to Hawaii for a few days, then on a ship out to the Pacific. They were then stopped and turned back as there was a Japanese fleet in the way. They then went in the Panama canal and sat there for a few days. They were told to wait there until further word. No idea what was going on. Then they got word the atomic bomb was dropped and everyone was waiting to see what was to happen. (As he didn't want to be on a ship for months and that's just where he was even in the army) Then they got word that Japan surrendered and they were sent to Okononowa. Well it's not like there was TV and internet to spread the word. So they didn't know the war was 'over'. He said it was the worst thing he has ever seen. Flushing people out of caves with flame throwers. He only ever mentioned it once I can ever remember. He did catch a piece of shrapnel in his hand but never injured badly. Then he was sent to Korea and served out his time there. Eventually becoming the head cook there which lead him to be a chef later in the states. But was always so impressed with the people of that time and all they gave to keep the world from being overtaken by the axis powers and all that was given by every man and woman overseas and at home.

  29. Last Thursday I got a voicemail from work that I had 24hrs to report to work for my suspension over the vaccine mandate. Knowing my Nz season was over I shot the next buck I saw a 2yr old 6pt. I tracked him and shot him at 25yds in his bed. Crappy ending to an awesome season in the big woods. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  30. The joys of having property adjoining state land, something we both share. I've put it of time and money into my property the last 3 years and it's paying dividends, but I get attitude how it's "easy" for me compared to others. I didn't see those same people out trimming apple trees in March, sod busting in the mud and snow at the end of April, or hinge cutting in the dead of winter.

  33. I’m happy to say I don’t know who those folks are ! Along with I’m not much of a customer for the “hunting industry “ as I don’t buy much hunting stuff . My hunting clothes are washed in the same cheap crap Mrs nomad washes all our clothes in, if I shower prior to a hunt it’s with Irish Spring , I eat and drink coffee in the truck and if I need gas I stop and get it . I don’t spray stuff on my clothes or drag things behind me , no scent loc stuff, certainly no ozone machines lol . My stands are more often then not picked for their comfort or the fact that the drag would be shorter . No food plots, cell cameras, magic beans or voodoo dolls , although I wouldn’t rule out trying a a voodoo doll . I’ve bought three bows in 33 years and I only bought the last one because I could no longer draw number two back . My deer pics get posted here and on IG where I influence no one . Happily ignorant in my hunting ways .

  37. The board owner decides the board's format and content, my advice is if you do not like this section the solution is pretty darn simple, stay the hell out of it and your aggravation is solved. As for me I like it, the best part it exposes libtards and Democrats no friends of mine. Al

  38. I disagree, i enjoy reading the stuff posted and the different perspectives. This place is dead unless it is deer season and the political forum makes it worth checking out in the off season. It isn't the political section that needs to removed. Its the name calling of the people you disagree with. If you don't like the section, don't read it. Pretty simple. Why do we have too cancel everything?

  43. It’s funny you say that…. My wife’s grandfather is a Korean War vet…. Non combat, he ran a PX. He lives in a apparent on the basement floor of my house. You can bet anytime one of his friends who was in the service comes over I am called and asked to bring down a Garand or carbine so they can say hello to a old friend. The looks on these men’s faces when they hold these weapons for sometimes the first time in 70 years is un explainable Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
