  4. Dave, I am left handed, I do shoot right handed as well but prefer shooting lefty, it just feels more natural. The rifle, .45, I made for myself and took deer with it last year. The fowler is equal to a 16 Ga. and made for one of my kids, though I use it quite a bit, I am currently making a 24 Ga. ,.58, left hander for myself and hope to have it ready for this coming turkey season. We also shoot trap with them. I am retired and no longer make them and the accouterments that go with them for sale. I just enjoy the making of all that stuff. A bag and pulverflaschen for a Jaeger rifle. A set of horns I made many years ago and kind of got me started down this road. Robby

  8. I usually dont get involved in the political threads but when I do its because of remarks like yours. It truly is a tale of two Americas 1% want to rule it. 90% are too busy sleeping/ignoring what's happening around them. 4% carry out the the agenda for 1% 5% are trying to wake up the 90% to realize what is happening. In Essence 5% vs 5% The question is what percentage you fall under?

  11. I hear that. Once you start dumping them with your buddies it takes over. Youll be watching tony vandermore and habitat flats. Lol It takes me 1 afternoon with a mini tiller and I hand cast the seed preferably before a rain. I have birds to hunt every time I give it a 3 or 4 day rest. Basically every weekend. Don't be surprised if it turns into the same feeling as deet hunting!

  17. So happy right now! I took 3 samples for 3 different plots on saturday. Sent them via fedex and got the email back today from whitetail institute. At $15 a sample I think this is money well spent and maybe I'm lucky because this is old AG land or maybe it's just our soil but the pH for all 3 plots was perfect. I was fully prepared with some of the horror stories to have to buy a pallet of lime or hire a ag lime truck. Looks like I still have some minor fertilizing to do but nothing major. What have you guys seen in central NY for pH?

  20. So we have lived ( wife and me ) in a 1300 sf ranch on a half acre for 35 yrs .. Now we are looking for a 2000 sf ranch or two story on a bigger lot .. Seems like we are doing the opposite of wait people our age do . Im sick of neighbors Id love to find a 2000 st ranch on a 25 acre lot in the Fingerlakes area .. I know we are going to have to pay up and I’m fine with that.. We have no kids so I figure we may as well blow some cash instead of leaving it to someone This market is stupid right now

  21. At 64 we bought our forever home last year. Used to be able to walk out back and hunt. But the winter upkeep was getting to be too much, and dealing with eight to ten cords of wood per year. Along with cutting six acres of grass in the summer each week. Found the perfect place in a quiet residential neighborhood. Four beds two baths, only the one bedroom up above the heated garage. Half acre lot, and driveway is only 60 feet!! Five minute drive to the boat launch on the Mohawk is nice too. Just wanted to have something much easier for my wife to take care of, should I not be there. And free up a bunch of time for me to do other things, as I near retirement. We did pay 5k over asking, but feel we still got a great deal for all we got with the house. It was completely re-done inside, including appliances, before we bought it. So no having to do anything before moving in. Can't hunt out my back door anymore, but I'm good with that. Still have the farm property to hunt, about 20 minutes away. I have the best of both worlds, and feel very fortunate. Everyone needs to weigh what they want, and what is best for them. Wishing the OP all the best in finding their perfect place!

  24. Counterpoint from Nate Jackson: The U.S. economy showed some health in 2021, including the new report that it grew by 5.7% for the year and 6.9% in the fourth quarter. The yearly number marks the fastest growth since it was "Morning in America" and Ronald Reagan was running for reelection in 1984. That's great news, right? Yes, but... We don't mean to play Debbie Downer, but our job is to provide perspective, not sugarcoating. Naturally, Joe Biden celebrated the GDP numbers. "For the first time in 20 years, our economy grew faster than China's," he said. "This is no accident. My economic strategy is creating good jobs for Americans, rebuilding our manufacturing, and strengthening our supply chains here at home to help make our companies more competitive." His strategy has only hampered growth, and there are several key effects of his efforts that will become causes of further concern. After the horrific year of 2020, in which government shutdowns in a vain attempt to control the coronavirus knee-capped the economy, 2021 had almost nowhere to go but up. For that, we can largely thank the policies of Donald Trump, who fueled a roaring economy for three years before COVID came, and who did what he could (i.e., pushing a quick reopening and fast-tracking the vaccines) to get things rolling again after the shutdowns. Biden inherited Trump's growing economy. Next, much of the economic growth in 2021 was not shared nationwide but was generally limited to GOP-led states. That provides a helpful illustration of why Democrat polices are bad, but we're not after illustrations — we want real economic growth for our nation. As the Wall Street Journal editorial board put it: "Imagine if the Biden Administration had focused primarily on the pandemic as it took power a year ago. Get the vaccines out, accelerate Covid therapies, and let an economy poised to soar take off on its own. No $1.9 trillion 'relief' bill in March, no threat of new tax increases and spending to 'transform' American society." It's not hard to believe that the economy would be far stronger. Looking ahead, the economy faces serious headwinds in 2022 that all the "experts" say are going to slow growth to a crawl. All of us rubes in flyover country understand that too, which is why, according to the Pew Research Center, "a sizable majority of Americans (72%) say economic conditions are only fair or poor." Indeed. When Joe and Jane Six-Pack see high gas prices, no workers at their local restaurants, and empty store shelves, they don't all of a sudden become giddy about great GDP numbers. Inflation is running at a 40-year high of 7% right now. That might be temporarily padding the bottom line for many businesses, but its lasting effect is to reduce consumption (i.e., economic activity). Those businesses can't find workers, either. Sure, the headline unemployment rate is a stellar 3.9%, but there are something like 11 million job openings and six million unemployed people. There are roughly four million fewer people working than in February 2020. All of that is driving up the price of labor (Democrats couldn't pass a $15 minimum wage legislatively, so they torpedoed the labor market to achieve it), which causes more inflation. Lather, rinse, repeat. The supply chain is a wreck. Stores can't stock shelves and manufacturers expect supplies and prices to continue being a problem. Ironically, the lion's share of fourth-quarter growth was massive inventory purchases. That is unsustainable. In short, Biden put his "I did that" sticker on good GDP numbers when the reality is it belongs on gas pumps and empty shelves. The American economy is resilient, and 5.7% growth last year is great news. We hope that replicates this year. But Biden and his Democrat pals are going to have to get out of the way to let that happen, and stepping aside is not something leftists do well.

  25. Short of purchasing practices with bids and what not, I think alot of people might be better served doing some research and spending a few hours locating the vehicle on a lot vs ordering at one or two dealers with tunnel vision, and buying into the mystique of the production challenges. It seems as if the aura of the shortages make finding a vehicle impossible. It's just hard. Not impossible. For any mainstream vehicle. The new vette is not what I would call mainstream so similar situations with low prod. #s aside. I don't think people leverage the power of communication and effort to get what they need and just take an ambiguous story and believe in it hook line and sinker. When I got my wife her Prime, I was told ad nauseum that I would never find one on the lot, never get one in less than 6 mos. and be prepared to pay over $5-10K over MSRP. So, maybe I am hard-headed, but I didn't just give up before I started looking. I found import lists on reddit, and called dealerships in rural, right leaning areas with low population centers. I spent about four hours in total, found one on lot, and found four due in by end of January with no deposits and able to be reserved. I reserved one at MSRP. Three of them were willing to sell at MSRP. Then, next day, lucked into a mutual connection that landed the exact vehicle at MSRP prior to Christmas. Had the car beginning to end in less than two weeks. Fast forward to now, I've since passed the info off to other buyers who bought all but one of the ones I found at MSRP. Less than 30K of these were made worldwide. California dealers are selling them for $80-90K, infamously, vs. the $40-50K MSRP. One of the dealers sent me a $50 referral check, even. For an MSRP deal. We were also considering a Bronco and did the same thing. A little bit of effort goes a long way. We found three of them, one in Buffalo, and ultimately didn't pull the trigger because of the soft top and lack of hard top not yet available at the time for the 4D. I see people talk about being willing to wait for 6 mos. for a vehicle and I can't align with it, if it's not a specialty. Do a few hours of work and see if it pays off. I don't know, maybe I am crazy, but that is just my take.

  29. I built this T/C Hawken from a kit about 40 years ago and have taken many deer with it. I've always used T/C Maxi-Balls and Pyrodex powder with a No. 11 percussion cap. It worked from the start so I never saw a need to experiment with other options. I have it to hunt in the ML deer season. I have considered getting a .32 for squirrel and a flintlock as well, but unless an opportunity presents itself that I cannot turn down, it will most likely not happen. You have some fabulous rifles there. Do you make them to sell?

  42. "Fantastic five!!! Must have been hard quartering to? Where you in a tree or on ground?" @crappyice I am posting here to respond to the above instead of the harvest thread, because...rules and all. The deer was quartering to as the entry and exit wounds show....but I would not say hard quartering to. I was about 14 feet up and the deer was 10 yards away or less. I felt that the position of the deer (relative to me) was such that the arrow could miss the shoulder and catch both lungs and probably liver, when I took the shot. I did not count on also catching the stomach. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
