  3. Got out this morning on the kayak. Had 4 keeper bass until a frickin snapping turtle decided one was his. Try to pull up my stringer and the bastard was locked on. Had to give him a wack with the paddle to let go but I threw the mangled one back in for him. I guess we both won Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk

  9. Also Lou Colliers son also , Andrew Jones son. All three will go top 10 and sign on the mlb dotted line. Draft sure has changed. A junior college 17 year old going top 10 just sounds weird. For you guys with kids going to college soon, if they don't find their spot or receive an offer they like, there are more and more kids finding success at the JC level then transferring or being drafted more then ever. You don't need to play at an elite college to attract eyes these days is my long winded point.

  10. Exactly. It was a half day. Take out travel time, scheduled breaks to rehydrate and check zipties, and the couple of minutes it took to erect the gallows to hang Pence, we're talking about what ... maybe 12 minutes. What's the big deal?

  11. I have heard all the arguments against lead bullets and lead shot, and am not certain that I agree with any of as being significant. I am certain that this bill is just another in a long list of hunter harassment laws that have become so popular in NYS. Many of us hunters have accumulated significant stocks of ammo, some representing many long hours of reloading. The anti hunters and anti-gun forces would like to strip us of any stocks of ammo and have us begin reloading all over again, especially now that ammunition has become scarce, even some of the components. This particular law is nothing more than another way to frustrate people out of the activity of hunting.

  17. I got mine long enough ago that I don't need to pay the $10 Doe tag fee. I bought them for my boys right before they upped the fee and added the Doe tag $10 so they are clear too. The clerk asks for the fee every time(I like going To places to get my tags!) and I remind her I don't need to pay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  26. Being that this is going to be my first year bowhunting, I have only really ever hunted big woods/hill country with a rifle but from what you experts/killers have been preaching, I have realized I need to adjust my tactics for bow season, especially early season which opens here on Sept 27. On a recent spotting ride with the wife and kids I found a decent buck on a piece of public near my house. Below I tried to paint the picture of what I have seen thus far. That first night I saw him in the western portion of the field just after last light about 9:15. There were also four does further to the east, one doe had a fawn with her. The next day I decided to scout it so I parked at the Parking logo which is a parking lot for fishing access to the lake. I noticed a heavy trail running perpendicular to the walking trail to the lake from the thick woods to the west into the field. I walked down to the water then cut across to the east until I reached where the white trail camera symbol is located. It was there where I saw 4 heavy trails intersecting, two went south towards the point, one kept going east into some thicker cover and one went north into the field. I put that camera in Friday and so far have seen the doe with the fawn, a lone doe and that buck along with a beaver who comes out every night. All the deer photos have been during daylight. The next day I checked out the thick cover near the fishing access that had the trail coming out of it across the fishing access trail and into the field. Back there I found a few trail that led back into some really thick cover. I decided to stop and back out in order to not mess with a potential bedding area. Couple Thoughts: 1. I initially and still kind of think the buck is bedding in that thick cover off the fishing access. It is kind of like an “overlooked” area. Plus with me spotting him in the field where I did just after dark, that cover was the closest to him. 2. The photo I got of him was at 0730 coming from the field. It gets light at 0515, is this daylight movement because he is a younger buck? Can I count on him maintaining this daylight movement into early October? 3. Crazy thing we witnessed, my family and I were driving by the field at 1200 on Sunday heading to swim at the state park. My wife saw two deer fighting on their hind legs! Whats up with that? I didnt know deer showed dominance/aggression this early in the year. 4. Another thought I have is with regards to access the day of a hunt. One option is to park at the Blue Access Symbol and kayak in near where I want to slip up a tree. Thoughts? 5. Finally I noticed deer heading past my camera heading and coming from the trail that heads to the point near the water. There must be beds down there. However there is a second similar point just to the east, should I go scout that too? Or just let the place sit, leave my cell camera in there and just throw one hunt at near my trail camera and one near that thick bedding near the fishing access? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  27. This is my first year really getting into pre-season scouting. Thus far it has been fun and I have learned a lot. However I started getting nervous recently because I think I could potentially be messing up some areas with my “intrusions”. But then I had this thought I figured I would share. Think Long Term! Sure scouting the area could hinder this year’s potential, however just think if you were to scout 2-3 new areas a year without stressing the short term impact, in 5 years you now have intimate knowledge of 10-15 locations! Its exponential growth too because multiple factors compound one another. 1. You develop your scouting abilities 2. You see more features/situations that aid you in future situations 3. You increase your hunting options which means you have multiple options during different situations (wind, time of year etc) Just like retirement, the sooner you start investing in your hunting locations, the sooner and larger that compound interest becomes.. I think Einstein said its the 8th wonder of the world. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  30. When my son was younger I took him to work on “Take Your Kid To Work Day.” As we walked around the office my son became cranky and started crying. I tried to calm him down when my supervisor approached and asked what was wrong and he sobbed loudly, “ Daddy , where are all the clowns you said you worked with?”

  37. Peppers for today. Jalapeño branches needed to release some weight so I picked a few. Maybe some cowboy candy in my near future. Poblano peppers are getting close. Making garlic confit for the first time with cloves that were separating or I broke the stalk off. I have one more bowl to peel, talk about tedious work. Wonder if that's what the work from home thread is about?

  38. I think the very fact this woman did exactly what I said during that video proves it's not a "fictitious thing" and leftists are in denial when they claim it is. They don't believe what their eyes see and their ears hear, because they are told not to by their handlers.

  41. Treehouse is just about done. Kids are loving it, and we just need to add some furniture and decorations to the inside. My daughter keeps talking about hunting out of it with me... so before the season starts I need to cut a few shooting lanes, and put up some camo burlap on the open sides. She also wants to do a sleepover up there, so guess ill be researching mosquito netting options soon.

  44. Yes, it was easy because it was on my jacket, which I put on as soon as I got home from work, and put a primer on my ML, with about 10 minutes of legal light remaining. It was December and quite cold out, after I opened the window and started scanning the standing corn in the field behind our house. I watched the deer stand up in the corn, and make his way to the edge, where I had turnips planted. With about 3 minutes of daylight left, I dropped him in that little turnip plot (about 100 yards out back) with my T/C Omega. i put on my boots, went back with my loader tractor and tagged and gutted him, then hung him in the garage and butchered him the following week. I thought it was a doe, but I was not too heart-broken that it turned out to be a button buck. I had a dmp tag, it was the last day, we needed meat, and that was the only deer that I saw. With just 10 minutes, I didn’t have time for a full-blown hunt, so the bedroom window was the best I could do. I had the same plot rotation again last year, and tried that once or twice, but didn’t see anything. You can’t skip any of the rules, no matter how big and fancy your blind is. I have probably killed a dozen woodchucks from that same window, and I may not have had the back tag on for all of them. I also got a coyote, a red fox, several coons, and a dozen or so crows, from that window. I pile deer, and other carcasses back there, and that pile attracts plenty of visitors. I will have a better view from that window, now that the old barn is down. No time to make fancy food plots back there this year, but I will try to set it up good next year. Maybe I can squeeze in a little turnip plot back there yet this year, and leave some of my late sweetcorn standing. I did not plant any fieldcorn in that field this year, and that is the real key to holding deer during the late ML season. This velvet 3.1 yr old buck would have been a 50 yard chip shot from that window, on June 21, when I was setting up our pool in the back yard: He was on the near bank of the creek. I pile the carcasses right behind him, on the opposite bank. The button buck stood about 50 yards behind him and a little to the right.
