I generally try to wear muffs when shooting and even generally wear then when hunting predators. Deer I haven’t because for me it’s a one shot type hunt. But 3 years I forgot to put them on and shot 4 times at a running fox with a 223 with a muzzle brake that was loud as heck. That mistake really cost me. My hearing was like a staticky radio for several weeks and the ringing never fully stopped. My hearing was never the same especially my left ear. I have been managing without aids since then and with tinnitus. Finally decided to correct it and got some hearing aids. The good news is that I feel like have great hearing with them on and the doc is hopeful it will calm the tinnitus. They are also pretty discrete as my son didn’t notice them until I pointed them out. BUT I could have avoided this if I wasn’t so careless. You all know this already but I will reinforce it if it helps one person. Wear hearing protect at all times when shooting. No animal is worth damage to your hearing. I can stream music now without anyone knowing. Lol. Trying to find the bright side.

I just tell the wife its estrogen induced hearing loss. Her chair sits on my left and thats my bad ear.

Got base up this am,at 530 to 630 before work called at 7am.. used a couple of stakes a chain and the little tractor kind of footed it like a ladder stand then added last two legs . Should get rest done when i get home from work monday and tuesday.

No matter if you see a deer or not , enjoy nature and the land you hunt on because they are not making anymore of it . My dad told me that when I was 5 or so talking about our land we own ,at 47 I find myself telling it to my girls

I had a Crossman 760 as a kid in the 70’s and put thousands (?) of rounds down the barrel. She got kind of sloppy over time and I had to perform some hack repairs on it. I had a ball with it and only wish I could tell all the things I did with it. What was your bbgun or pellet gun of choice?

My turnip plots were a big draw when I first started planting about 20 years ago. Over the years, the deer got educated and started devouring the seedlings when they got 4" tall, they would just wipe them out almost overnight. A couple of years ago I watched a video about putting up an electric fence around the plot. Two 1" ribbons run along side each other, 6' apart. I tried this last year. and I'm back in business. Deer stay out until I take it down prior to the season. I planted this plot 3 weeks ago. I know its a little early but its growing great.

So glad we did this. It's been about 3 weeks since it's been installed. Install and water cost $2400. Electric to code cost me $750 as I did most of the work myself. So I've got $3150 in a "free pool" lol. In the process of extending the deck and that will add about $500 to the total. Chemicals added another $250. We've been enjoying the pool multiple times a day. Nephews and nieces have been over several times. We've seen these kids more in the past few weeks more than we've seen them over the past few yrs, lol. Seeing them has made it more than worth the cost.. Wife and I are in it every evening. And most days, I stop home from doing lawns and jump in quick to cool off, then go back out mowing. Even though the water temp is 84°, it feels refreshing when the outside temps are in the 90's. Evenings are different.. the air temps are in the upper 60's to low 70's and I actually get chills when I stand up as the air temps are lower than the water temps. The warm water actually feels good when the evening temps are lower. Overall, were very happy with our decision..

First Romas. These are way ahead of San Marzano and Roma III varieties. Its name? Pony Express. They have large size, low water and seeds for sauce and paste.. Well see about the flavors later.

The wind is a deers best friend. Make it yours too. Shoot what you like. Like what you shoot.

Same advise from dad and grandpa, when they were teaching me to stillhunt. When you think you're moving slow, slow down some more.

I think the best advice I have gotten was this: "Never shoot at something you think you can hit. Only shoot at something you know you can't miss."

They finally took off terriff on canadian lumber is more likely the reason.. been hauling lotnof lumber from canada on the rails lately as well as crude oil from canada to american refineries.

WI tall tine tubers are coated so the seeds are larger than sand. I would think adding daikon radish seed uncoated is about the same size. Radish really helps improve soil as they dig down deep and what deer don't eat rots in spring loosening soil. Got mine from Hancock. Just planted a mix with some WI winter greens in the mix too.

Add same volume of sand to seed to double your seed coverage.. half volume of sand to make it cover 50% more... brassica is ver small seed a coarse dry play sand works best for me a 50 lb bag should last a few years doing smaller plots..

Another method I use is to split my seed in half. It's a bit of a pain in the butt, but it can keep you from running out of seed. I try to cover the plot in one direction (north to south, say) and then go over it again (east to west). I almost always use this method with really small seed like clover and brassicas.

This. If you watch shows like The Hunting Public or other guys who hunt public land all over the country, their connect rate in places like New York/New England/Southeast or other eastern forest biomes on public land are very very low vs. hunts in other parts of the country. On most tracts of public land here, even finding a "mature" buck is going to be a lot of work much less targeting it specifically unless you're highly experienced, really know a piece of property well, and maybe have some unique access so you're hunting a spot others aren't.
