This camera has only been up a few days. Good to see a decent buck in this spot already. Usually don't see good bucks on this part of the property till October.

It was a wonderful A day at West Point Saturday. We were able to spend the evening with my Daughter and most of today. We chilled out in the hotel room and she took out all the letters and cards. You guys were the best! The cards you sent what you wrote to her was amazing! I love you all for what you did for my Daughter. She was just dropped off at Post getting ready for classes tomorrow. Good Karma came back to me this month and you were all a great part of it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Burt

My partners cell cam. I haven't been up there in over a week. Got alot of catching up to do. Starting to finally feel better though.

Last and biggest plot in. Worked out perfectly. The farmer cut the area Fri and got done bailing it about 8pm last night. So we dug it up as best we can and planted. The forecast is for showers the next 4 days so hoping it takes. Now we are done til labor day weekend and will get the last 3 stands shooting lanes cleared and trail cams all out with fresh batteries and cards. And am whipped and time for breakfast. What about the “connection” that the majority of people violence is related to the distribution, sale and use of illegal drugs? What about the “connection” that suicide is a serious mental health issue? What about the “connection” between domestic violence and the violent crimes of assault, battery, illegal drugs and rape usually involved with domestic violence? Apparently the anti-gun politicians are unable or unwilling to really make us safer due to their inability to make the real “connection” with people violence and the root causes of violent behavior.

So went driving and saw an absolute beast of a buck caught it walking away at 80yrds. Put up my Binos on him and watched him for awhile. I don’t remember the last time I saw a buck that big. 18-20” wide g2s 8-10” kickers at the base coke can bases just a beast. Also found 2 other shooters in that area I didn’t know existed. So I’m ready for the chess match this fall. Sorry for crappy photo.

Just before dusk last night, I heard my hens start freaking out. I grabbed the gun and ran out there, thinking we had a fox or something in the run. Strange because it was still light out. Not even time to lock them away for the night yet. Turned out to be a huge male opossum. He had grabbed one of the girls in the coop somehow, and was trying to drag her away. I ended his career quickly. Chicken seems to be ok. She had a few cuts, but she's ok this morning. I had no idea they were predators. I knew they went after the chicken feed and the eggs, but I thought that was it. A full grown chicken is not a small target. Anyone ever seen one kill something?

Just made some garlic jalapeño pickles myself. I usually handle spicy very well but jalapeños are so hot this year I started to sweat just cutting up two yesterday.

Stuffed peppers for dinner tonight . First batch of garlic dills are done . Garlic jalapeños up next.

No but the opossum I took care of was eating all my green tomatoes.

Figured those bucks would know not to show themselves to you when they get older. Just asking to end up in the freezer by Christmas.

With the mild winters they seem to expand northwards...a good cold old fashioned winter kicks em back. They arent built for the cold.

I had mice in my lawn mower and also my ATV . They chewed some wires in the ATV . I save the 18 oz. PB jars . I drilled several holes in a couple and put moth balls in each one . One goes under the hood of the mower . Another goes under the seat of the ATV near the battery and wires . So far , so good . I have caught mice , moles , shrews , chipmunks and even slugs in the traps . Sometimes nothing and the PB is gone . A few traps have come up missing so something has carried some off . Now I stake them so they don't go missing .

This mornings haul

Yep no system to issue permits so no sales, wonder how long they will drag there feet since no sales must make them all happy.

I've been fishing the salmon river for the las 13 years, so I've learned a thing or two up there. I may forget a thing or two, but you're more than welcome to pm me. End of sept is a good time to catch salmon. Some years the main run is later, but there will be fish in the river. First you'll want a good pair of waders with either felt bottoms or some type of screw in the boot. Last thing you want is to be swept down river while fishing. I suggest getting a breathable wader since the weather will probably be warmer. Id suggest one of you guys to buy a big net, but its not 100% necessary as you can beach or ask someone to net your fish. Bring a good set of sunglasses. I prefer polarized in order to see the fish resting and coming up river, but its more about protecting your eyes. You will get hit with random split shot from someones line if you fish there enough. I almost knocked a guy out when my split shot recoiled back after a fish popping off. Buy plenty of split shot and hooks. I use the tin split shot up there and prefer #2, but a lot of people hate them. You wont be able to buy lead split shot in NY. For hooks I used blackird hooks in #2, but mustad is a very popular choice to use up there too. I wouldn't go much bigger than #2 though. You'll want a 9ft rod or longer. If you fly fish, you'll want a 9wt (8 being the absolute minimum) I fished for years using a cabelas medium action noodle rod, and caught a ton of fish. Now I use a fly rod and would never go back. Not gear but learn how to tie a snell knot. It'll increase your hook up ratio big time. Any knot will do though. I also suggest you learn how to tie it standing with gear in your hands. Once you move, your spot is up for grabs and someone will take it. If you're respectful with a group of guys, they may allow you in the rotation of spots that guys will usually do. Bring a vest if you can. Not critical, but it'll help big time when you're tying out on the river. Bring a good stringer if you can in order to keep fish in the river. Use maxima chameleon line. Pretty much a standard up there and since its the same color as the water, its pretty good. I used 12 pounds for years with great success, but I use 15 now since switching to a fly rod. Learn how to bottom bounce. These fish wont be biting, so you're really trying to floss them. The steelhead will bite, but they will be far and few between when you'll be up there. If you're lucky, you'll hit a run of coho. I've never been able to, but all the videos tell me that I want to one day. Be careful how you lift, you don't want to be hit for snagging. For bait I use atlas mike eggs, but since the salmon wont be biting, there's nothing wrong with a bit of sponge. Get to the river early if you want to save a spot. Guys usually get there when its dark to capitalize on the first light run and to save a spot.
