  1. Had a buck around last fall that had some unique curled brow tines. I got a pic of a nice buck last week and as soon as I saw his brows, it reminded me of the buck from last fall. Sure looks like it could be the same buck? If not the same buck, the same genetics anyways.

  5. Maybe I am traumatized from my childhood but whenever cube steaks get mentioned all I ever wonder is why? We had them often (I assume because they where a cheap meat) they where always dry yet greasy. I had to douse them with ketchup to make then edible. My poor mother thought I had an obsession with ketchup growing up. I do not have the heart to tell her that I loved ketchup so much growing up because it made her well done everything taste better.

  6. Competed 2 weeks ago in Smyrna,Delaware against a pretty stacked field and took 1st place. Got my Golden Ticket to compete in the Worlds Championship in Fort Worth,Texas next March. If you’ve never competed in an SCA event it really is a lot of fun and meet some great people. Here’s my winning steak

  8. I finished up the last of my food plots yesterday morning, getting in about (3) acres of wheat/clover mix. I usually wait until September, to plant that, but I had the time and the soil moisture content was nearly perfect yesterday morning, so I “jumped the gun” by a week this year. It will be interesting to see if the deer prefer “Imperial Whitetail” clover, or “Spot-on” clover/alphalfa blend. I don’t have any experience with the “buck on the bag” stuff, but the price was right (free) this time, so I went with it. The free Whitetail Institute “Tall Tine tubers” that I planted a few weeks ago (behind the corn in 1st photo) germinated pretty good, so hopefully the clover does too. The “free “ seed was all 3-4 years old. The wheat “nurse crop” was leftover from last season. I also seed that on the light side (25 lbs/acre) when planting in combination with clover (3 pounds/acre).

  10. While we were out working on hunting land this weekend, couldnt help but laugh at our wall of clover. On one of the trails that we frost seeded in the spring, there was a literal wall of clover that ended where we stopped seeding. The clover all up that trail by the stand is just amazing and it ends right in straight line down the trail and its 4" higher. Frost seeding definitely works there. Going to do some more in different locations this next spring. Planning to rotate frost seeding that every 3 years or so pending how it looks. And frost seeding is an easy way to get some food going and a good day out in the wild come spring.

  11. I was lucky enough to grow up hunting private lands. Been hunting the same farms for over 30 yrs. For free. One farm was over 1000 acres in it prime. Now only 250. Never hunted state land, or leased. At my age, if I lost all of my private hunting areas, I'd quit before I paid to hunt or hunt public lands. I only need one deer a yr as my wife won't touch venison. I'd take one deer off my 8 acres, and be happy with that.

  12. I’ll stick to hunting stateland. Not paying someone’s taxes just to hunt deer.

  20. This year is a terrible year for experiments. so dont completely throw ideas out. In regards to future plantings. If you have the time, hold off until the 2nd week september and see what they look like. If un satisfied, cereal grains and peas and such will work.

  23. I was at my youngest son's Saturday for dinner . He showed me 3 different stands that I could use on opening day . I picked the one in a pine tree . I can ride his ATV to the stand . Whether I get a shot or not , at least I will get out and get it out of my system . He offered to have me stay over and hunt 2 days . I think I will pass on that as after hunting morning and afternoon , I am pretty well whipped . Not young any more . As for postponing my knee replacement , I have already done that so I can make the trip to Ireland . My daily pain runs between a 7 - 8 most of the time .

  24. If you cant disk them in you can always press them in with a lawn roller. big seeds like pea and beans press easy and soil moisture will germinate them! they are great easy plot seeds. PLots look good!

  28. No place to hunt in Allegany County NY? With all the state land available there, I don't see why anyone would have to lease property or purchase land to pay the taxes on, unless they have the money and want to. I do some roaming around that area and have hunted it during early bow and see very few hunters. https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/73957.html Check out all the state land available to hunting.

  29. I thought the same thing….6 guys. You advertised roughly 70 acres for $1400 around here, you’d have to change your phone number for all the calls 24/7. I hunted 80 acres that went to lease and that was $5000 in 2010. I have no idea now, and same guys are still there. And that just deer, no turkey or year round.

  30. I get major anxiety walking in thinking about the deer I'm scattering, its awful and leads to sweating which leads to me getting cold. Im a basket case especially if the woods are quiet and crunchy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  31. We checked plots, changed out current cam cards, put up a few more cams, prepped the last 3 stands and did some random trimming. We are ready! Last thing is I might cut a couple of spots in trail where the swamp grass grows so high but that's it. 10 stands, 4 plots and 12 cams ready to go. 2/4 of the plots look really good at Littlefield and wayback. Other two were kinda sparse at CSS and lawn stands. The larger one we did two weeks ago at lawn stand we reseeded a few bare spots and will hope that takes. 2 of them grew really well and have lots of deer fodder growing strong. Not Lomax plots by any means but not bad for what we have to work with. Now to have breakfast and check cam cards. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

  38. Lol , kidding ….. as well as pointing out that some guys never learn and stock up , which absolutely stuns me , to be frank . There’s a fair number of members here I’ve bought ammo for ,as I have a source that has been well stocked all though the shortage . I’ve also sent guys for free, knives, broadheads, like new Lacrosse boots, one guy I sent at my cost boxes of old ammo as he collects it , yesterday I went shopping for reduced recoil 308 for a member who’s son can only tolerate that load . off to work on my next misguided revenge scheme

  41. Ok legit I have no clue. Meaning first shots since 2021 at a new house and just guessing on range at the new house. Thought 25 but it may be 30. Plus I only could find 100g vs 125g heads that I hunt with. In any event, pretty sure I will be fine.
