  1. It’ll be hard enough to get my Swiss Army knife on the cruise ship ! Although our lady guide on a trail walk today had a stainless short barreled 12ga over her shoulder . besides it’s all really old people , some with canes , I can simply knock them over then run . I also put some salmon in the Mrs pockets ….. and she’s slow as hell .

  4. Well we did it. Today was the first hunt for Gunner. He will be 8 months old in 3 days. He made his first retrieve of a Canada goose in the first picture and in the second picture he is resting in the blind after making a second retrieve He remained remarkably calm and we'll behaved throughout the morning hunt. I could not be happier with him. valoroutdoors.com

  5. Well decided to rebuild a 29 year old Howse 4ft brushhog. New stumpjumper, blades ,bladebolts, tailwheel, and pto shaft, and new sides . Went with 3/16 thick plate vs original 1/8 in.. should be good for next 30 years.. may throw a coat of paint on it tomorrow. Works amazingly well and 0 vibration.. like new!

  6. I was perusing another forum this afternoon, and just happened upon a fantastic deal. I’ve been casually looking at flintlocks for a while now, not really too seriously. I wanted a full stock rifle by a good maker, and unfortunately most of those guns were to pricey for me right now. When this one popped up and said “Albany, NY”, I jumped all over it. It’s a .45 Pedersoli Flintlock Kentucky Rifle, never been fired. I’ve got to pick up a new set of accoutrements to fit both the caliber and action, but I’m hopeful I can get shooting with it in a few weeks.

  11. These bucks were all at one of my job sites in NJ. The first was an old double drop tine that I saw when I did the pre-construction walk. The rest were taken on the first day of the job. They didn't even care that we were there. The big buck walked around us and bedded down about 50yrds from our trucks.

  12. I hear people complaining all the time about how they HAD access to a place and now the new owners won't let then on the property. "I've been hunting here for 20 years and now they tell me I can't hunt here". Well, someone paid a lot of money to buy that property and they have to pay taxes and insurance on that property. Maybe the new owners want to hunt the property with their family and friends. If it was on the market for sale anyone could have purchased it. If someone hunts on a property free for 20 years maybe they should have planned and saved to eventually purchase that property or gone in with a few people to purchase some land. I started hunting State land, eventually I got permission to hunt some private farmland owned by a friend's grandfather. We did workdays in the spring clearing trees that had fallen during the winter. We would spend weekends to cut and stack firewood in the fall (with beer and pizza) and watched the property throughout the year. I joined a hunting club in ADK and paid annual dues + 2 work weekends a year (not to mention the 4hr drive each way) and eventually I purchased land where I now live. I work hard and spend a lot of time and money to maintain and improve the land. Now my family and friends have a safe private place to hunt. I have good relations with most of my neighbors who all hunt their own property and are like minded. When I hear people say they should be entitled to hunt someone else's property it drives me nut's. Many times, these are the same people who complain about others who expect free money from the government but it's the same thing. It comes down to "I want something for free that someone else had to pay for" There are a ton of options for hunters. State land, build relationships with landowners, join a hunting club, lease property with some buddies, purchase land solo or with some friends. It just depends on how serious you are about hunting and where you are in life. If you really want it go out there and work for it.

  13. It's 8 days from the start of Early Antlerless Season 9/10-9/18. I resisted as long as I could but, I broke out my pack yesterday and started going through my gear, installing batteries in my flashlights and getting my hunting cloths out. There is a certain smell from the gear that now fills my office. Next Saturday can't come soon enough!!

  18. Here's 3 that stick out to me. The deformed one is my favorite, I hunted him for 3 years. His rack didn't change much over that time. His left hip was all caved in like he got hit or something. We only actually saw him once, but he was a regular on camera until he vanished last year. His name was Crazy Horn. The other two were kicking around off and on for awhile. Idk if they're still around. Naples, Ontario county.

  19. past 5 years....... first pic - chased this first one around for 3 years. Named him Dark Knight cause we never once saw him in day light. 2nd pic - small rack big huge body. Was actually within 10 yards of him once and couldnt get a shot, I thought it was a loose cow at first. One night i came out from hunting and he was 50 yards from my truck. 3rd pic- have had this big 6 point around for 2 years but only a couple of pics of him - Big Sixy 4th pic - this buck - Checkbuck-I played chess wiht for 10 days last season and saw him a couple times but never in bow range. Not the same caliber as what WNY has here above but fun nonetheless! My goal is to take one buck off this property that is worthy of a wall mount (after the freezer is restocked of course)

  20. I can't have a discussion with someone who judges people by their profession and education. I can assume from your responses that your an expert on everything and not open to a real discussion. Maybe you can enlighten us on the reliability and accuracy of carbon dating tests ? Even with all of their knowledge, they still can't predict the future. In the end, their Ivy league educated predictions are only guesses. Unfortunately those guesses are deemed gospel by Al Gores climate change cult. The only green he's worried about, is the green money in his bank account.

  21. It's been the slowest summer on trailcam that I've ever had for big bucks. It was to be expected as the local buck herd got slaughtered last fall. The other day I was looking through old pics reminiscing about some of the awesome deer that I've had history with over the past several years. I decided to post a few of them. This isn't the midwest by any means but most of these bucks are 5.5 to 6.5 years old with a couple being 7.5. It's almost unimaginable that a deer can evade a rifle bullet for that many seasons. All these bruisers are from Steuben County 8P/8R in areas that are far from being considered intensively managed...

  23. We'll had my right hip replacement surgery today at UVM CVPH health network. Was at hospital by 830 very emotional time not knowing and worrying what could happen. Had very good group of people taking care of me. Being a combat veteran using the community cares program for local treatment instead of the long haul travel 2 1/2 hours to Stratton VA hospital in Albany. They took precautions for my PTSD. Nurses anesthesiologist and Dr we're great. Started me off with IV and lyrica Tylenol aspirin and celebrex. I was the youngest person the Dr performed this surgery on. Surgery went great Dr said my hip bone was very bad. Came out of anesthesia without incident. They were preparing for the worst not knowing. Ate some food and drank some water orange juice and cranberry juice. Did PT walking around with walker and crutches. Walked up stairs and bent down to pick something up and bent down to touch my ankle. Came home around 400. Did some sunbathing out side in walker and relaxing. Took a few walks and exercises like recommended. Dozed off for 10 minutes after meds. Now just relaxing. Going to take my recovery slow. Pain is not bad less than I had before. I was originally scheduled for September 30 but they had a cancellation and bumped me up to today. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out deer hunting at some point. Sorry for rambling on. Now it's trying to find something to keep me busy while I recover any recommendations would be great. Huntingny has been great with information and meeting new friends to hunt with.

  24. I'm not a sheep. I've questioned everything that has been taught to me by looking at the data and facts and coming to my own conclusions. Engineers are taught to be analytical thinkers, it's literally what we do and how our brains work. I want data and facts, not opinion. It's why I'm a republican but don't believe and follow every party line. I think for myself and formulate my own opinions and conclusion based on what's presented to me, and you're right in that sometimes we're fed some bs. Covid is a good example, but I'm not a virologist or even and MD so I'm not going to spout off on it like I'm preaching the truth. But I do have a degree and career in the environmental field, so I damn sure will here. Lets clarify some stuff. An opinion could be that abortion is bad for society. A fact could be that the earth is warming at a rapid rate do to increased emissions in the atmosphere. Some have too hard of a time separating the 2 and just regurgitate whatever they read online or watch on TV. What is worse is that people like to hear what they think they want to hear (both the left and right, but mostly the left). They don't like AOC or the green new deal (neither do I btw, but some of it is good), so they tune into a source that confirms how they feel. Every polarized media outlet knows this and feed on it for views and click... to you know... make money. You want to know what? Sometimes Breitbart is right. Sometimes even Alex Jones was right. Sometimes CNN and the New York Times is right too. Stop living in a world of all or nothing. You said earlier that you weren't denying climate change, so not even sure what your point is here. I'm out for the day, going to work on treestands. See yall tuesday.

  25. I tell you. So exactly what did the supreme court decision accomplish?? Absolutely NOTHING. Just made life more difficult for ALL gun owners in this state never mind the ones who want to conceal carry. Makes absolutely NO sense that a state is allowed to sidestep a supreme court decision in this way. What authority does the supreme court really have then? Very little to none in my opinion if a state is allowed to enact such nonsense after a ruling is made.

  26. 2nd and 3rd pics: I suspect someone got him on the state land a week into gun season. I nick named him Blade. #4 I think is a truly wide 9 point this year I've had my eye on this year. #1 from 2020 (date on cam is wrong, its actually Nov 1) is on my wall! Edit: Pictures didn't upload in the same order.

  27. A few I would like to see in person this year: I had that one with the funky left side in range twice last year and didn’t seal the deal. Big big body on him. The last one was from a few years ago in Mendon but just one that impressed me

  28. I always forget to take pics being in a hurry with everything, but I snapped a couple yesterday. Got the elevated platform started. This plot has growth but not quite what i was expecting after several inches of rain. IT did not get liquid fertilizer yet so it makes sense. The liquid fertilized plots are 4-8" tall already. Sprayed the Fert on it yesterday as well as cleth for grasses at the same time. If growth is not where i want it in 2 weeks, ill add the Wheat. I'm Really hoping this plot takes off to get my wife her best chance at a bow harvest or two.. Its been 8 years since her one and only bow harvest. 2nd harvest ever. The panoramic views are from her ladder stand which is positioned behind and to the left of the platform about 50 yards. From the ladder stand, its a 10 yard shot to the close edge, 45 to the far edge straight across.. The ladder and platform are an easy 100 yard walk in so she can leave when she gets scared or whatever the reason is that day lol.

  29. One thing ive learned is not to let these damn cameras fool you. As bucks age, many steer away from cams, not all but they certainly show caution around them.. Anyone ever throw cams up and the first few pics are a good buck? Coming to figure you out, and that he does. Its also taught me to not get hops up as they tend to make is very anxious and upset at the same time. My cams are slow, but i know they are there. And will be present at the right times and right place depending on what you have to offer on your property at that time of season.. Had the buck ive been waiting for show up last night finally.

  30. We were there last summer for two weeks - ecocruise on a small 16-person vessel for a week hiking and kayaking in Prince Williams sound, then heli-fished three days on Clear Creak out of Talkeetna while the wife hiked Denali (Mt. McKinley for those of us who grew up in the 70s), then a bit more hiking for the two of us around Talkeetna. Awesome trip, great weather, lots of wildlife. I'm glad you're enjoying it. The wife was back up to Alaska two weeks ago for a meeting on perceptual learning, but didn't get to venture far from Alyeska lodge with dawn to dusk talks, and it rained non-stop while she was there. We made up for it by hooking up in Banff (her coming from the west and me coming from the east, with no hiccups amazingly) and hiking for a week; unreal vistas, too dang many people. We were first on the trail in the morning and had them to ourselves going up. But coming down was like bumper cars with dozens if not hundreds of other folks climbing. The trail head parking lots were full by 9 am. Lake Louise and Moraine Lakes were almost completely inaccessible. LIke I say, amazing place, but I won't be going back soon.

  34. I don't think anyone ever said the climate isn't changing. I think they were saying man isn't causing the change and the ideas presented won't stop it. To me, the biggest problem in this whole issue is, they love to talk about the advantages of green energy, but refuse to discuss all of the disadvantages. An intelligent decision is arrived at when you correctly identify the problem in the first place. Then look at all of the possible solutions. Then look at all the advantages and disadvantages of each possible solution. If your not looking at any of the disadvantages, you're either not qualified to be making the decisions, or you're forcing bad decisions on everyone to satisfy your personal agenda.

  37. Years ago, I decided that land was way more important to me than the home itself. So the first thing I did was buy acreage and live on it. I have to live somewhere, so I might as well live where I hunt. So today, the house and property have long-ago been payed off. Dad was right when he told me they aren't making any more of it. The price was ridiculously low by today's standards. Yes, taxes have gone up over the years, but they have gone up for the city and suburban folks too, and a whole lot faster. And yes, there was always the 45 minute commute each way every day. But it always served as relaxing quiet time. It never seemed to be any problem except on those ridiculous snow storms. I love the peace and quiet out here and the extreme privacy. It always worked for me, and my hunting land is mine to hunt and manage as I please.

  39. Based on the language , we’ve been told current holders outside of nyc and five neighboring counties , do not have to take the course for recertification . Also our county sheriff said they won’t be arresting folks for inadvertently carrying where it’s now off limits , while the NYSP leaders all got puffys and can’t wait to enforce this sh!t . I have a locking metal cover on my trucks bed, when we go to lunch the long guns go there anyways . Since they didn’t define “ fireproof “ with any standards , like UL or industry standards as far as I’m concerned that meets said requirements. Anyways it should read fire resistant . in a nutshell I’m not changing a damn thing I do .
