  1. We'll had my right hip replacement surgery today at UVM CVPH health network. Was at hospital by 830 very emotional time not knowing and worrying what could happen. Had very good group of people taking care of me. Being a combat veteran using the community cares program for local treatment instead of the long haul travel 2 1/2 hours to Stratton VA hospital in Albany. They took precautions for my PTSD. Nurses anesthesiologist and Dr we're great. Started me off with IV and lyrica Tylenol aspirin and celebrex. I was the youngest person the Dr performed this surgery on. Surgery went great Dr said my hip bone was very bad. Came out of anesthesia without incident. They were preparing for the worst not knowing. Ate some food and drank some water orange juice and cranberry juice. Did PT walking around with walker and crutches. Walked up stairs and bent down to pick something up and bent down to touch my ankle. Came home around 400. Did some sunbathing out side in walker and relaxing. Took a few walks and exercises like recommended. Dozed off for 10 minutes after meds. Now just relaxing. Going to take my recovery slow. Pain is not bad less than I had before. I was originally scheduled for September 30 but they had a cancellation and bumped me up to today. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out deer hunting at some point. Sorry for rambling on. Now it's trying to find something to keep me busy while I recover any recommendations would be great. Huntingny has been great with information and meeting new friends to hunt with.

  2. Trails cleared, stands ready - one new one set, lanes cleared and cameras set. One was still taking pics (not sending them since I suspended the cell account) from setting it last summer. Some decent bucks on it for this early. Thanks for the help to Culver Creek. Should be a fun season.

  3. I was perusing another forum this afternoon, and just happened upon a fantastic deal. I’ve been casually looking at flintlocks for a while now, not really too seriously. I wanted a full stock rifle by a good maker, and unfortunately most of those guns were to pricey for me right now. When this one popped up and said “Albany, NY”, I jumped all over it. It’s a .45 Pedersoli Flintlock Kentucky Rifle, never been fired. I’ve got to pick up a new set of accoutrements to fit both the caliber and action, but I’m hopeful I can get shooting with it in a few weeks.

  4. Staked off our field edge plot as if we continue to get nice weather was worried they might do a third hay cut and take out our plants It's coming in ok, a little spotty. Looks like some of the peas are germinating now too. The sun is shining perfect on our deer stand. C'mon Oct 1. Will go back out there Sept 30 and pull the stakes and ribbon and trail cam cards. 9. I went out and worked on my stand this morning. Checking straps and I had to replace the stand blind/skirt what ever it's called. I bought the wrong size but I made it work. Last one lasted 5years I think. On the way out I was kicking stuff out of the way, I just happen to see a piece of the blind... Look what was on it.

  16. Went over today and staked off plot and put up tape in case the farmer does a 3rd cut in that spot. It's growing well in some spots and spotty in others. But rather he didn't cut it all to the ground. Corey did a little trail trimming with the brush hog in swampy spots. We are done til Sept 30. Will come back that day, mid-day, and take down the stakes and pull cams. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

  17. I got a late start fishing this morning and I just landed my first bass (14” smallmouth). One lame hit on a surface bait earlier and a couple light taps on jigs but this was the first hookup. The sky was clear and no wind early, so conditions were tough to sneak in on the smallmouth with bucktail jigs, in this little NW Adirondack lake. A light sw wind picked up, to chop up the surface a little, so I started trolling a silver hotntot . Very healthy looking fish and good fighter. I am only keeping one over 22” on this trip. I will keep a pack or two of “eaters” this size when I come back up in mid October.

  18. I thought I would put together a couple of photos showing Gunner's progress this year. The first photo is of Gunner at 8 weeks old retrieving a snow goose wing at home. The second photo is of Gunner yesterday at 8 months old retrieving his second Canada goose. That goose was a large heavy bird but Gunner brought him in. From 8 weeks to 8 months has been commendable. valoroutdoors.com

  21. Not sure if you are into fishing, but fly tying and jig making is another good way to kill time. Smallmouth bass love bucktail jigs in 1/8 oz to 5/16 oz sizes. In most clear water situations, they will outcatch soft shell crabs at a fraction of the cost (I get buck tails for free). I’ll be using some tomorrow, Sunday, and Monday.

  23. Reading the judge’s ruling, even though he didnt over turn the state’s law, he did provide some great arguments that may help future cases shoot these laws down. One specifically was how the social media requirement violates 1st and 5th amendment rights. He went on for 20+ pages on how the law is bull crap. So I am confident the state bit off more than they can chew… no way these hold up, especially if one gets to the SCOTUS. sucks now but this wont last Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  24. Folks, This new law is filled with convoluted verbiage designed to make us all Felons and confiscate our guns.... so be real careful what you do. I just talked to the DEC folks and here are a few bits you need to understand to prevent you from being labeled a Felon and your guns confiscated. Here are only a few of the myriad of questions I asked that actually got an answer of some type. As per their interpretation: They are making any infraction of this law a CLASS E Felony Currently::: 1. When traveling and stopping for gas, groceries, Restroom break, etc., and exiting your vehicle. All shotguns/rifles MUST NOW be in a hard locked case hidden from view. Their is an exception if someone stays in the car while completing those tasks. However If that person is a child under 18 the guns MUST be in a secured and lock in a hard case or in a safe which is with a key, keypad or combination. NOTE::: Bio-metric locked cases are NOT mentioned and thus could be currently illegal. That includes your bedroom bio-metric pistol safe. (When I asked about this I was met with googled eye stupidity and a non answer SO BEWARE that the point is to get rid of all guns and violating this rule is all that's necessary to be arrested. If Violated:::::This a FELONY requiring that the state confiscates all your guns 2.When asked about driving from Farm to Farm to hunt I was told the need to be in a hard case and locked. If Violated:::::This a FELONY requiring that the state confiscates all your guns 3. When asked about driving on my farm with an unloaded but uncased firearm....I was met with "that's probably ok but Be careful, Albany wants to play "gotcha" and "If Violated:::::This a FELONY requiring that the state confiscates all your guns 4. Trespass laws have been changed to make it easier to become a felon. It is now considered illegal to go into any place that does not say CWP allowed. You must have permission from every landowner or you will be charged with a Class E Felony for trespassing (includes being lost if you have a firearm). If Violated:::::This a FELONY requiring that the state confiscates all your guns. So if you have issues with your neighbors make sure you know exactly where the property lines are. Advice get written permission from all the land owners before the season starts so you don't get caught up in a later squabble and be told "you never had my permission." These trespass laws will be used aggressively so be careful. 5. Open carry is always illegal but you could use pistol to hunt so it was tacitly allowed. NOW???? It could be read that your hunting pistol MUST be concealed..... The DEC person was perplexed about this and agreed that the concealed issue was "ambiguously vague" and in the future could be viewed as "must be concealed". SO just how do you take off the winter gear to access your firearm?? If Violated:::::This a FELONY requiring that the state confiscates all your guns 6. The DEC Flyer says, " The new law does not affect how LAWFULL hunting may occur in NEW YORK." Sure they change the rules and makes common practices now illegal. So if you you have ANY infraction you are NO Longer LAWFULLY Hunting. Thus you will be subject not only to that infraction but having committed it in possession of a firearm If Violated:::::This a FELONY requiring that the state confiscates all your guns FOLKS remember that the original "Seat Belt Laws" specifically stated the you could not be stopped for violating that law...Suddenly its become a pretense to pull you over and see just what you got in your vehicle. So no matter what they say now you is only whats to come and you KNOW where this is headed. Forget about the Camel getting its nose under the tent, with this law the camel is in and letting the whole herd in. If we don't stop this nonsense by voting (and yes your vote counts) we deserve the S#$%T storm that's coming BTW If convicted of violating this law we lose the ability to VOTE. Be careful and have a safe hunting season.

  27. I love the warm weather deer hunting. To say that I am looking forward to it would be an understatement. Being set up to handle the carcasses is an important part of it. For me, that means a deer fridge and an insulated, air-conditioned processing area - my garage. I am looking forward to next Saturday more than any of the other (6) opening days that I plan on hunting in NY this year (early nz ML, nz rifle, sz crossbow, sz gun, late nz ML, and Holiday ML), mainly because it comes first. I miss deer hunting, having now went over 8 months since my last one on January 1, of this year: I am going thru some very serious withdrawal. I can’t wait to smell that powder burning again, and to start dropping chunks of red meat into my great great grandfathers old grinder. I only put one 3.5 year old buck thru it last year, after replacing the knife and screen (I had an old doe processed up north and it would have been a sin to grind the two button bucks). It worked better than ever on that big 9-point buck: Antlers mean very little to me. It is ALL about the delicious red MEAT. Warm weather hunting is great, you just have to dress appropriately. I do need to pick up one of them thermocell gizmos, because I recall the skeeters being an issue on a few hunts last year. I don’t think they will be as bad this year, because it has been very dry.

  31. The Supreme Court's decisions carry a lot of weight in the legal system, but the system works very slowly. The Sullivan Law it overturned was on the books for 111 years. It takes a lawsuit, and lots of cash and political influence to even get a case before the SCOTUS so it can rule on it. However, rogue politicians like Hochul, who violate their oaths of office with impunity, know this is the case and will intentionally pass these retaliatory laws as a stall tactic to prevent the SCOTUS ruling from changing anything. These people need to be impeached when they do that, but because this state is a blue state with an idiot electorate, it will not happen. This is why your vote matters, and if you have a lot of stupid people in your state, you only have two choices. Work on converting the stupid people, or move out of state.

  41. One thing ive learned is not to let these damn cameras fool you. As bucks age, many steer away from cams, not all but they certainly show caution around them.. Anyone ever throw cams up and the first few pics are a good buck? Coming to figure you out, and that he does. Its also taught me to not get hops up as they tend to make is very anxious and upset at the same time. My cams are slow, but i know they are there. And will be present at the right times and right place depending on what you have to offer on your property at that time of season.. Had the buck ive been waiting for show up last night finally.
