  1. 9/30/22 Luna had a turn this morning. This 7 pointer was gutshot from the ground last night. We went in 12 hours later this morning and he was still alive and had to be dispatched. He went a very short distance and stopped and bedded down when we jumped him. The buck had only gone 100 yards from where the hunter and his brother backed out last night. These guys did things right. They didn’t realize he was gutshot, but were smart enough to back out when they jumped him. They also had ribbon with them and marked the blood as they tracked last night. Way to go guys! We were more than a mile deep, so I was glad the hunter brought his jet sled this morning as it made our drag out much easier. Great morning workout and it gave Luna plenty of time to chew on a leg as we dragged him out.

  2. Dad just arrived at CT deer camp (my house). Never seen a deer in my front yard since I moved here in February. My daughter and I were waiting on the front steps and 2 does with 1 fawn walk by 10min before he arrives of course. Anyway, 649am sunrise tomorrow so 619am legal. Should be 45° when we walk into woods and light 3-4mph NE winds. He’s got the xbow I got the compound. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  8. 9/29/22 Luna and I tracked a buck last night for a young bowhunter. Unfortunately it was a lost cause from the start. Only 4” - 5” of penetration would not get the job done. An occasional small drop of blood was nice to show the father and son that Luna was on his buck on this 1.1 mile track through lots of prickly ash. This 8 or 9 point buck will be seen again.

  13. 9-27-22 #1 An 18 year old huntress shot a 7 pointer last night, then the skies opened up with a 2.5 hour deluge. She and her Dad were able to check out the arrow before the blood got washed off and saw substantial blood, but there was the smell of guts. We arrived at 8:30 this morning and learned that her Dad went out looking this morning, then her cousin. Luckily, they were looking in the wrong direction. This buck only went 275 yards, but there was zero blood on the track. Kunox is a good boy! #2 While on the way to the first track, I received a call for help on a big 8 pointer that’s was shot last night. Rather than drive all the way home to swap dogs, Kunox lucked out and got two in a row. The hunter shot the buck at 28 yards from a 16 foot height, and could clearly see that he hit him high. The hope was that he hit the top of the lungs. Kunox worked his tail off on this one, covering 2.7 miles. It became obvious that coyotes were involved as Kunox kept stopping to mark, something he doesn’t do unless that’s the case. We were working most of the time in tall thick grasses, where often Kunox would totally disappear. More that once he stopped and asked me for a lift when it became impassable. As the crow flies, the track was 990 yards. The track ended at a property line we couldn’t enter.

  17. So true, and the fame that goes with it. Have a buddy of mine that shot a 147" buck few yrs back. He hasn't talked to his brother since then because he's accusing him of shooting it before legal time in the morning. He was after the same buck but had to work that day. It's been a ugly feud between them. All do to a friggin deer.

  18. Went out and pulled down stakes and ribbon by plot at lawn stand. That plot is spotty. Don't see any of the winter peas we put out and some of the radish is trashed from too much recent rain. But there is sections of radish, brassicas etc out there and it looks better than the rest of the field area. Pulled cam cards and the one cam wasn't working for some reason. No pics. The other is video I will have to download. Shot the bow and it's GTG. Two small properties before hunting spot a nice buck was out chowing down in a field at 10:30 am and still there when I came back thru at 11:30. Now some ribs on the smoker and making an apple pie. 21. Lol, I bait my chipmunk traps with smooth. Interesting, and true, behavioral study on motivation - mice can crawl through a hole the size of a nickel to get at a peanut. But they will squeeze through a hole the size of a dime to get at peanut butter. IMHO, this is a point for smooth. And 30 seconds later my browser is showing me ads for peanut butter. Sigh. Head Shake.

  27. We likely will encounter this buck Saturday PM. He is showing up daily day and night. It’ll be exciting to see him and think about potential. We are struggling to put him at 3.5 and pass is in order if he can survive the gauntlet of hunters this year.

  28. Well to my surprise I had an amazing hunt. Four bucks only one shooter and six to eight doe and fawn. Started with the four point in the first picture. The fawn in the second picture almost busted me so I decided to focus on hunting instead of photography. I won't shoot past 25 yards with my recurve so it takes a perfect setup to succeed. I had the four point at 20 yards but just to small especially this time of year. The last deer was a shooter 6 point that was 10 yards away from seeing his demise. I believe a bigger buck about 20 yards behind him in thick woods grunted to him and alerted him something was up. He took a hard right and walked the edge of the food plot but wouldn't go in. That was the end of the fun no more deer after that. But from 4:30 to 6:30 was a blast. Also something was up at the front of my property. As a guess at 6 o'clock from 150 yards away I heard a loud snort three times. Either the bucks were bothering the does or a bear or coyotes were hunting. Lots of bear pictures the last two weeks. By far the most deer I've seen in one day since I bought the 40 acre property six years ago. Now I know why the food plot is down to the ground. Decided to drive home tonight so I don't miss my wife's sonogram tomorrow.

  40. I decided to tote my ML for the early September antlerless gun season this year. My target doe’s luck ran out on Tuesday the 13th, when I ambushed her from behind a patch of poison ivy, on her way to dinner in my 2 acre rr corn plot. Her prior year’s fawn came by first, prompting me to shoulder my T/C Omega 50 cal, so that I could deliver a quick, broadside, 15-yard heart shot, when she popped out from behind the cover. She spent the next (4) days in my deer fridge, and I stayed up till Midnight processing her on Saturday night. She must have lost this year’s fawn(s) to coyotes, because she didn’t have any milk in her, and lots of fat. It took me a lot of extra time, trimming as much of that out of the meat as I could, before grinding. Her tenderloins were very good and much more tender than those from the older doe that I killed last year in the NZ early ML season. I am guessing that she was 3.4 years old. Her burger is spectacular. My wife made meat sauce for spaghetti squash from the 1st of (17) quart-sized zip-lock bags of that last week. This doe was #1 on my hit-list, because she did considerable damage to my sweetcorn this year, taking out much of the early plantings, soon after it sprouted. She also had the best developed back straps that I ever seen on a doe.
