  1. They were moving this afternoon in 9g. 4 bucks chasing one doe within minutes. Happily took this one at 20 yds. He didn't go 20 yds and piled up.

  2. Well after 45 years of hunting the thing we fear when hunting tree stands happened to me. Slippery conditions this morning with the snow and ice. I hunted until 9:30 and started to come down my ladder stand. It is a 20' model. About half way down my foot slipped I had one hand on the rail and that let go. I was on my way down to the ground. It took a second but felt like I had enough time to think OMG it's happening to me this is going to hurt. I fell backwards but turned and hit the ground in a horizontal position. My right arm and shoulder hit the hardest then my neck snapped and my head hit the ground. I lay there saying I think I'm ok. I got up slowly thinking something is going to hurt real bad but I was ok. My shoulder is sore my head fine. My Angels came through thank you. Please be careful and take your time. I have been in and out of tree stands so many times and never thought it would be me.

  7. This says it all. Nobody cares that those people left this site, it won’t miss a beat. But to sit on the other site and bitch about the site, the mods, the owner and the members yet feel the need to come back is something else.

  8. Disagree in part, the clique I'm referring to is the group attack, agree with one another at all costs, general douchebaggery. People with real friends don't spend all of their time on forums generally. It's easier to make online friends because you can be anyone you choose, you never truly know the person on the other side. There are/were people on here who I guarantee you are not the person you are led to believe they are. I joined this site because I thought it was cool to see what others were seeing/shooting/doing. I didn't join it to find friends per se, just conversation with like minded people. There are people who I'm certain I'd be friends with here, who I feel are genuine individuals, others I believe are only here to be someone they aren't in their "real life," to pound their chest, to impress, to brag, to feel like they have a podium. To each their own... Sent from my moto g fast using Tapatalk

  9. No reason for there to be competition between here and there. Everyone is free to come and go as they please. It's just that no new members can get on here anymore. I've been on here for years, and enjoyed it!!! But with no owner participation saw it just turn into a constant political bitch fest. Most everything posted turned political. That's not why I come to a hunting and outdoor forum. If I want to debate politics, there are more appropriate places to do so. As for cliques......I have made some friends for life from this place. Some are here, some are there, most go back and forth. Seems as if all of a sudden a member here is firing up his own clique??? Whatever..... It doesn't have to be that way at all.

  10. I’ll be out on state land Saturday morning. Gonna be watching a couple of escape routes. Just got my 308 dialed in today. I have all of next week off. Gonna hunt as much as I can.

  11. Nope, not ready, I'll be giving it a wing and a prayer. Going to hang my climber on last year's tree tomorrow so I can find it in the dark Saturday morning. I have my .54 ML sighted in, and am going to put a few rounds through my 760 Remington tomorrow, I'm not sure which I'm taking on Saturday. Good luck to all who are going out!

  14. Thought I’d post my semi diy powder drop since we’re talking reloading . I got a smoking deal on a used Lee classic cast turret and wanted to drop my powder on the press as I’m loading . So I bought the Lee deluxe measure and welded up a mount to position it over my thru expander die. The upright tube is scrap I had laying around with a nut welded in the bottom and the extension is actually a 7/8 box end wrench that the powder measurer body fits perfect in . It’s held on to the press by a bolt threaded up through the press base and then I screw it on and tighten into position. I used to load all my rifle cases on a single stage , but I’ll tell ya the ammo loaded on the turret is just if not more accurate than the single stage.

  15. I have zero complaints with the accuracy of my old stuff, my scale is a Lyman made by O'Haus, a 10-10 model I think it is over 50 yrs old, I actually have 3 powder measures and they have always done the job for me. I like using the Lyman measure pictured because for small charges because of it's extreme accuracy, it is the initial setup that makes me nuts, but once I got her set she is dead on. I have an old large capacity Cortland Redding that I use for the large charges and it has done me well. Al

  16. Probably because of the pack mentality on the ones that left. So many new people posting now that were in the wind in the past. There is a reason.

  17. I’m on several forums , I figured what’s one more . I will say I see members posting here that I don’t recognize their names , so it seems they are picking up the slack . Good guys/ hunters on both now, so I follow both.

  21. Damn, you have had just about everything happen to you this season it seems. So you were half way down which is 10 feet when you fell? I hope not but you may feel it tomorrow. I never liked tree stands and these days I hunt only from a pop up ground blinds. Deer can be killed from the ground also. No deer is worth breaking my neck for. You seem to have tons of deer on your property, Burt, I am sure you'd kill plenty without having to climb trees. One can get hurt in many ways while hunting but climbing trees increases the odds drastically as you well saw today.

  22. The biggest day of the year for me and I've been preparing and trying to decide which stand I'll sit for weeks now. It will depend on wind direction, conditions and gut feelings. I've narrowed it down to A) A semi open area between to really thick brushy spots up on flat ground in Letch, would require a 1.5 walk to get there, I haven't had anything good on trail cam all fall or b) my BIL's new piece farm in Stuben Co where I just placed a stand in a pinch point, 50 acres of hardwoods that has sizable pond on the north side and an overgrown brushy area past that. But it's all surrounded by open fields and has a few houses that surround the far north end. New land to him, I've never hunted it, big bucks in the area. I write down all the pros and cons on a piece of paper and stress out over it lol

  23. I have not missed first light on OD since I started hunting deer in 1965...That's about 56 years....One morning many years ago temps were down in the single digits...My oil furnace had quit working overnight...I was in the woods at opening time but I had to go home at 8:00 AM to work on my furnace so my pipes didn't freeze...BUT...I was in the woods hunting the first hour, so I have never missed an opener...Knock on wood...Hehehehe... Good luck, Wolc.....

  26. Yeah kinda funny how they piss and moan about it yet still care what the rest of us that stayed are doing. Half them guys lived on this site and half of them are like a pack of wolves. Get in a pissing match with one and their cronies come a calling to throw their two cents in. I’m also not needing 3-4 mods and the owner and whom ever else dictating what I say as long as it’s within reason. Got enough people in this world trying to tell us what to do. All is good here and quiet is not a bad thing. It will be a closer group op people that are left. And for the most part it will stay outdoors related.

  27. I agree with some of this for sure. This site turned into some people's diaries. They couldn't walk into the woods without writing a short novel about it. I don't care what you're eating for dinner, what dream you had last night, so many stupid/pointless threads being started. There were also a lot of "cliques" for awhile here, that was annoying. I don't see myself going to a new site, if this one dies one day, so be it, life goes on. Sent from my moto g fast using Tapatalk

  29. All the malcontents that hated the way this board was being run by the owner and it's political spot left and started their own board, good trade off as far as I am concerned, mostly hunting related posts here now. Everybody is happy now, they don't have to see any politics and we don't have to see their petty back biting, cheap shots and complaining about T shirts along with wading through what some fry and eat every day. 30. Headed north now so when I get more time I’ll get into it more but 6 of us made the 26hr 1450 mile drive each way to Ontario for a deer hunting trip. 5 out of 6 of us killed 200+ pound bucks and the sixth had plenty off chances! My first international hunt if you want to call it that but it was an absolute blast and I cannot wait to do it again! Tracking up there is so much different because there are 50x’s the deer I’m used to seeing in the adks and At least 10x’s more than I see in Maine.

  34. Hook your harness to it on the ground .. slide your strap up as you go . If you fall at 10 of 20 feet your still suspended from the safety rope then tie off to your tree strap when your in the stand

  35. Have one of these on each of my stands . Insisted my buddy put one of these on his stands same with the son. Told them if I came up on them and they weren't using it they were going to take their stands home and were done for the season. Fell once many years ago . Wasn't very far up but the screw in steps opened me up from knee to groin and up my torso to my arm pit. Glad your ok . I strongly recommend the safety rope as it protects all the time to your in the stand and ground

  36. Oh man, glad to hear that you seem to be ok. The older Ive gotten, the more paranoid I have become about that very thing. I havent hung a stand in years that didnt have a prussik line on it, though that isnt perfect either. I hope a little soreness is all you end up with out of it.

  38. I saw a dandy behind my place last Sunday morning. It looked like at least a 3.5 yr old 10-point with a body like a moose. If I do make it home, I’ll probably hit my parent’s place on the opposite corner of wmu 9F though. I’ll get back after that big one at home again, next Sunday morning (if I get home).

  40. 1 problem with your assessment of his criticism of said “ behavior”: Grouse os a Republican who supports policies promulgated by Conservatives . These policies will not destroy the country as per the additional criteria put forth in his post ; the Dems policies , however , will and are currently .

  41. Completely agree! Two clear examples. 1) Hunting partner shot at a deer broadside from the ground. Arrow got deflected and he said it ran off with arrow sticking out of its rump. We tracked hoping to find his arrow. Had a decent blood trail and eventually found the deer. The arrow actually never hit the rump. It hit the opposite rear leg inside femur and severed the femoral artery. The fletch being near the rump made it appear that is where the impact was. 2) I shot a deer broadside from the ground; aiming at the front leg crease. Saw the arrow bury up to the fletch back near the abdomen. I instantly saw it as a gut shot. Watched the deer run off and drop/pile-up 15 yards away. Without me realizing it, the deer moved and was actually quartering away. Arrow hit liver, diaphragm, lung, and heart.

  43. I'm glad you found this deer. I commend you for telling the honest truth. Hunting isnt always pretty. Things happen in the heat of the moment. I respect you guys for the kill and for the respect you show in the persistent tracking to find the deer.
