  4. Last sit with my Marlin 512 got completed this morning and no deer seen. I killed just one very fat, Thanksgiving-day morning “dmp” buck with that this year. I’m giving my Ithaca model 37 16 gauge one last chance this afternoon, over at my parent’s place. They haven’t been seeing much, out on the clover plot, so I’ll try and “tough it out” on my little swamp-edge hang-on stand, deep in the woods. That’s my normal opening day stand, but I missed that this year due to the Blizzard of 22. I tried it on a very windy Saturday morning, the week after Thanksgiving, with nothing seen. Hopefully, something will move thru there this evening. Next weekend, I’ll try and get out Sunday morning and Afternoon with my T/C Omega 50 cal. That one’s already got me two deer this year, a New Year’s Day bb, and a big September “early antlerless season” doe. I’ll most likely be using that to try and punch one or more of my (5) remaining tags over the Holiday ML season this year. I don’t have to work at all during that this year, and I hope to hunt every day of it.

  5. My Cadet was at her first Army Navy game. She will stay overnight and head back home tomorrow with her company. Love the traditional uniform they wear. Her Grandfather loved this game and I'm sure he is smiling today in heaven. Teddi on the right.

  6. Wolc….I’m praying for you pal. You have been wayyyy to quiet for me this year!!! My wife and I tagged out early November on my new property in NZ in 6k…nephew tagged out on this bruiser on my southern lease. We sat last Sunday with a camera…18 doe and 3 small racked bucks fed in our plots all afternoon. We have a nice group of 2 1/2 yr old 8s we are excited to see make it as well. Next year should be interesting.

  12. Agree. In the early 1980s, I bought a used Rem 760 factory carbine in 30-06 for $125. My first deer rifle. Love it and will never sell it.

  14. Absolutely a Yea. There are the same advantages that apply to lighted compound bow nocks. I have taken several deer and a black bear with my crossbow with lighted nocks and the lighted nocks have made retrieval of the crossbow bolts very easy. valoroutdoors.com

  17. Hey Don I am far from being any kind of authority on the English Setters, my expertise is with Airedale Terriers along with in depth knowledge of the English Coonhound breed, these two breeds I have been hunting for over 50 yrs. I have always found it interesting to try out and hunt with other breeds just for the experience. What I can say unequivocally, with hunting dogs it is all about their breeding when it comes to how they perform in the field. When I decided I wanted to try out an English Setter I did a lot of investigating. Gouse Ridge kennel in Oxford NY kept coming to the forefront for me. The Flanagans have well over 50 years of experience invested in some of the best hunting English Setters in the US, and in competition they have done it all. My two Setters have backed up everything I have heard and read about Grouse Ridge Setters, my instincts were correct, I am totally pleased with how they did and have performed. Al

  23. I bet it was. In the woods, there should be no problem hearing the coming this morning, Good luck. No hunting for me this weekend. Spending the day watching my grandson in his first Tae Kwon Do this morning and his singing in a Christmas concert in the evening, then tomorrow his birthday party. Busy weekend for the little guy, and I wouldn't think of missing it.

  24. I obtained Matty from a hunter down in Delhi NY, his last name is Utter and the mating of his personal hunting dog to the Flanagan's Grouse Ridge Luckee was handled by his Mom "Kay". I also had a previous Grouse Ridge Setter named Stickers whom I obtained from a trainer in PA, He was a real good one out of Grouse Ridge Reroy Stickers pic below, hunting bud T Findlay on the left and myself on the right. 28. Yeah I should add that I don't use ozone in the tree, but I do use it in my clothes storage. At the end of the day an alert weary deer is going to bolt if they see another animal they don't like, catch movement (even from a squirrel) or if they smell something foreign. I've seen doe spooked by an estrus wick and a few years ago I had some bolt when I blinked... I swear to god lol (gun season). A calm deer might smell the gas on your boots that you walked in and pause because they're curious... but that's typically a young or very early in the season unpressured deer. Then there are deer that spook at nothing or aren't spooked by anything and nothing in the world makes sense. For me at the end of the day I'm spending my energy trying to eliminate as much sent as I can. It's an impossible task, but I like to think my scent cone won't stretch as far, or more likely appears to be an older and not a recent odor to the deer. But trying to trick a deer's nose? That's not in my toolkit. Seems it works for some though, so YRMV.

  29. A U.S. Navy destroyer stops four Mexicans in a small boat rowing towards Texas. The captain gets on the megaphone and shouts, "Ahoy, small craft. Where are you headed?” One of the Mexicans puts down his oar, stands up, and shouts, "Gringo, we are invading the United States of America to reclaim the territory taken by the USA during the War of 1812” The entire crew on the destroyer doubles over in laughter. The captain finally catches his breath, gets back on the megaphone, and asks, " Just the four of you?” The same Mexican stands up again and shouts, "No Señor, we are the last four. Thanks to your President Biden… the other 21 million are already there.

  34. I bought my daughter her lifetime license on-line recently after she finished the hunters education course and before she turned 12. Everything came in the mail in just a few days. When we went to get her the doe permits she had to be there to sign what was printed out then. Not sure how old he is but if/when you ever go to a brick and mortar store for a license for him bring a school ID or something with you. I was not expecting her to need an ID but the store let it slide. You can also get the doe permits online for him and avoid the store as well. For us it was just a timing thing and we couldn't do it online.

  36. I did it recently with my 4 year old. I am not sure if they need to be there or not, but she was. We only needed her birth certificate. I don't remember her having to do anything. They did give us a license card and a receipt that we filed away.

  37. I don’t know if you have to have him with you or not. I would think if buying as a gift if you had hunter ed paperwork with you that you should be good to go. I would think you can do it online but i have had my lifetime for so long I don’t think they did sales online back then. I go to the town clerk to get my doe permits since it is a 2 minute drive from my house so I don’t even do those online. Lol. I get my license in the mail every year mid/late July.

  38. As with all thermals, what you see in the compressed video is nothing compared to what you see in the display. I liked my Trijicon Reap IR pic, but didn't like feeding it CR123's and it didn't record. The Halo X50 is awesome. Best thing with both the Triji and Halo scopes, you don't need to focus.
