  1. Prices have doubled from a year ago. Go to a local feed store. You can get generic Roundup for around $80 for 2.5 gallons of concentrate. Works just as good. Wish I would have bought a couple cases last year.

For the past several years I’ve gotten generic glyphosate 41% at TSC for $49.95 for the 2.5 gallon jug. Wondering what it’ll be this year.

  2. Last week’s Meateater podcast episode again goes over this and is pretty interesting. Last summer, I needed more arrows and the ICS 340 Whiteouts I had were discontinued. After researching a bit, I got bit by the Ranch Fairy bug and went with a Sirius Vulcan 250 at 31” long with a stainless insert and 200 grain Grizzly Stik single bevels. Seeing the crazy penetration on my block target was intriguing to me. Do I need a 652 grain arrow? Definitely not. Was it fun creating a new setup that I have confidence in? Absolutely.

I know bullet and arrow analogies are less than perfect, but, I think of it kind of like this: a .243, .30-06, and .45-70 all have their place in the deer woods. I don’t shoot past 35 or so yards, so the .45-70 of arrows is cool with me. Plus, it is darn quiet.

  3. I just pulled the trigger and bought the LX today. The backhoe’s are a year on back order so I passed. I can use the $10k for other attachments anyway.

  4. Smart move on the larger, open station tractor with shuttle shift rather than the smaller one with HST.  If my full time job was outside I wouldn’t mind a cab, but as long as I work full time in a climate controlled factory, you couldn’t pay me to own a cabbed tractor.  I can’t wait to get “outside” on a tractor.

The first time I rotary mowed over a giant ground bee nest in my cab tractor, sitting in it listening to tunes with the AC on watching those things flying all around, I decided I’d never be without a cab tractor again.

  5. sorry don't want to high jack the thread
How useful is the backhoe? I'm about ready to get a kubota lx3310 but I can't decide if the back hoe would be worth it.

Unless you have a lot of jobs already on the docket for one, you can rent a mini excavator daily a lot of times before you pay off a backhoe attachment. Plus, you don’t have to hassle with putting it on and taking it off. And…they are not typically as fast or “powerful” as a mini ex would be. Just my $0.02.

  6. I see your pm’s and all is good! For some reason the Tapatalk app takes forever (days) to show pm’s even though I get them through email. Thanks again!

  7. How much are you looking for?

I suppose that depends on price and availability. I’d like at least 40-50 pieces of all one head stamp, and would likely purchase more if available.

I’m also looking for bullets. I have other rifle calibers I might trade, or I’d buy some outright.

  8. Just took a closer look. I installed just as I would have in a wood stock, but put some JB Weld on the threads as I threaded it in. At least I’m pretty certain that’s what I did, because I just tried to loosen it up and wasn’t able to easily and I’ve certainly done that in the past. I do know I tried threading it in one of the spacers, but the material there was much less desirable (soft) and that spot is very shallow, and the stud bottomed out long before it was in far enough. No way to put in a swivel stud with a nut based on how that shallow that area is. You’d run right into the long bolts holding the spacers and pad in place.

  9. Did you just drill and set the sling base, or did you take the stock off and remove the top to put a nut inside?

Honestly, I don’t remember for sure. I did it a long time ago. I’m guessing it is just threaded in based on where I put it. If I get a second today, I’ll look for sure and report back.

  10. I’ve used Fusion for several years, starting when it was called it’s previous name. You’ll be fine planting it after you can get in there and work the ground. It’s all about getting it established before it’s dry in my opinion.

  11. VH  a Browning Bar lacks nothing !  You missed out last spring on some quality Browning Bar MK 3 carbines. LL Cote in Errol NH brought in a special order of 100 of these . They sold out in 2 weeks between selling them in their store and gunbroker . They went for $1,300 . Here is one of them that resold on gunbroker for $2000 . They weighed 6.9 lbs with a 19 inch barrel and deadly accurate . Two guys on another site each bought one . All bullet holes touching dead center on the bulls eye .

I have been hunting with a Browning Bar since 1985 . My old one is a standard 22 inch barrel with a steel receiver . Weighs close to 7 1/2 pounds . In 2017 a gun shop in Constable NY brought out a special run of 50 Browning Bar carbines in 30-06 with an 18 inch barrel that weighed 6 1/2 lbs with special fiber optic iron sights that I had never seen before . You adjust the front and read sight with an allen wrench.  The front sight moves left / right and periscopes up and down . I bought 2 of these . Never mind a clover leaf .I literately put 4 shots just about in the same hole . All my other rifles now take a back seat to this gun . I put a Leupold VX6 1x6 with a Firedot Duplex reticle on it and cant be happier . Moog has one of these rifles too that he bought from a member here Billdoggie . They have not made any with those iron sights since this batch of 50. The recoil on these new Browning Bar carbines is probably 1/2 compared to my older standard Bar because of the Influx technology pad. Feels like I'm shooting a 243 instead of a 30-06.  If you are really interested you should check out Performance Shooting in Constable NY to see what special order Browning Bars they might have coming up .

    This!
I prefer the .308 carbine, but yes! Mine are SortTrac’s but the MK3 is great as well.

  12. Interestingly enough, I think if you went back a ways (not sure if all the way to 1952), you’d see more options in “deer hunting calibers” in autoloaders than now.

I really enjoy my BAR’s, but they are newer models. They are accurate, not heavy, very reliable, and ergonomic.

My thoughts are that history has proven people favor other actions over autoloaders in their big game hunting rifles for many reasons. Perceived or real reliability issues, cost (for company and consumer), accuracy, weight, and tradition have likely contributed to the very limited options in the market.

I’d love to see others get in (or back in) the game on this.

A 6.5lb, shorter barreled, short action, slim auto loader in various calibers that proves accurate and reliable would give the BAR MK3 some competition.

For what it’s worth, the same could be said for pump guns in rifle calibers.

The other piece is the few big names in gun manufacturers now. For example, Winchester is not going to compete with Browning in any real way since they’re under the same larger company.

  13. This year its time for another soil sample but For me it's 80,000 lbs every 3-5 years (They drop it off, give me a spreader and in about 5 hrs its all done. I just power wash the spreader and they pick it up) Cuts the cost about to about $30/ton. (That's before the rise in diesel fuel thanks to Biden)  Sure beats opening up 2000 bags and then spreading them.

Last time I applied lime, I found a guy that delivers it in a dump truck spreader with field ready tires. I’d use him again for sure. Price was still way less than bags and he spread it all right from the truck at the desired rate per acre. Not sure where you’re located but this guy drove over an hour to me from Bennington, VT.

  14. I'm thinking about getting a new Glock, maybe a 10mm, maybe a 45ACP or even a 9mm.....NOT a 40mm or 380ACP.  Years ago I had a Model 19 and then a Model 27.  Sold both along the way and don't (didn't) miss them.  The Model 19 in a more recent Generation could trip my trigger though...
Model 20 or 21 is where I'm at now but could end up with nothing or something.  This time of year seems to be when I acquire handguns.

I had a 21. Like Nomad, with 10 round mags, I wanted something smaller. Have a 30sf now and like it. I find myself carrying it owb working outside and that kind of thing.
