  1. Absolutely, but I have to bend a little more than I would like. Again, not a huge deal, but it definitely makes me need to practice a lot to get that bend right.
  2. Yes, though my current bow is set up at 29 1/2", I just have to bend my bow arm a little bit. It's an old High Country, and it is impossible to find modules to get that one up to 30", however, I have killed gobs of deer with that bow.
  3. Finding one with a 30" draw is the issue, it's almost impossible. Good to know that they run a little long, that makes me feel better. I'll be working with a local shop to set it up if I do get one, so maybe we can get it pretty close.
  4. So I'm toying with the idea of buying a used Mathews Switchback. I shot one years ago, and really liked it. However, most that I find are no longer than a 29" draw, and I really need a 30". I have used a string loop to pull out the draw length a little bit in the past (I think maybe 1/2"), but I don't know if I can stretch a whole inch of draw with a string loop. Does anyone have any advice?
  5. I'm sorry to hear this, never an easy thing to do.
  6. Welcome! Great introduction, I feel like I know you now
  7. I read this yesterday, and it hit me hard, especially since I'm a new dad. I can't imagine what the family is going through. This is what happens when "hunters" get careless. I think most of us on here will agree that we can never forget the basics of firearm safety and hunting etiquette. Regardless of what happens to the responsible party, nothing will bring these 2 back, and it should be a reminder to all of us just how much responsibility we all carry with us when we head to the woods.
  8. I've done them before. Not super accurate, but still a fun way to get in some practice. I do like that they reward you for waiting for a good shot.
  9. That's a chunk of change, but I'm curious what the actual street value will be. I'm sure way too much for me, but I would imagine it will be under the $1500 msrp. Sharp gun though.
  10. Happy New Year Everyone! I hope we all have a safe and successful year!
  11. I can't speak for all of them. I only every shot 125 Thunderheads and had great luck. I never felt that I needed to try anything different.
  12. Fantastic deer! Congratulations! Sorry to hear about the EAB issues, it's a huge problem statewide.
  13. Never been, but share your experience, that's close to me.
  14. I see a lot of guys hunting over food plots and open ground, but coming from a bow and shotgun background, I have had huge success hunting fence rows (even ones that don't exist any more) and stream beds. If I can find a spot where a stream or ditch row is splitting a piece of property, or where two fences converge, or where there is a break in an old fence, it seems like I can put myself on deer. I took this guy several years ago after taking my climber up over a broken down fence row. He was cruising for does and came in at 10 yards. Does anyone else seek out these type of spots?
  15. I killed my first deer with an 1100 with a slug barrel. I loved that gun, but unfortunately our house was robbed a few years ago, and that one was taken with several others....
  16. See, the secret is adjusting the recoil spring. Most people don't realize what a genius gun design this was. It's a mechanical recoil operated action, and the recoil spring can be adjusted for light loads and heavy. If you shoot light loads with the spring wrong, it won't cycle reliably, and if you leave it for light loads and shoot slugs, it will knock the crap out of you.
  17. Coming from Illinois, our gun deer season did not include rifles. We could use muzzleloader, pistol, but most everyone used a shotgun with slugs. As I look to start hunting in New York next year, I'm planning on taking my trusty old 12 ga. Browning A5. Does anyone else use a slug gun for deer hunting?
  18. Wow, I would avoid that one next year.
  19. Would love to get together sometime. Little plug here, but I play in a local country band, Big Sky Country. We have our monthly set at the Saratoga casino tomorrow (Vapor). You're welcome to come out and say hi
