No it’s both , and it’s the springs in the TC , I’ve talked to three different shops , all said the same

    Terrys

    Speedy

    Bracys

im also on several gm forums and it’s both the 8 and 6 speeds

All kinds of miles but most seem around 70k

I did the thermostat delete a couple years ago..but that doesn’t help the springs breaking ,

the new replacement TCs don’t have springs .

they now find they are not needed

    im at 41k

Believe what you want to believe and who to believe . Sure , if 20 trucks come in , and 19 of them have an 8 speed , and  1 is a 6 speed , I guess you can say that they have replaced both .

I called my guy at Transmedic this morning and even he said that 85 percent of the ones he is replacing are the 8 speed transmissions in Chevy 1500's . The other 15 percent are 6 speed that either had normal wear and  that reached over 165,000 miles or newer ones with less miles that were abused . Once in a great while one would come in with under 100,000 miles that was no good for some mystery reason unknown . But he said thats a freak incident. Certainly nothing even remotely close to average 70K miles. There is always a lemon out there in the millions of Chevy trucks sold. That doesn't mean the lemon is the norm.   Every article I read points to the 8 speed is by leaps and bounds the problem baby. So far I haven't seen much about the 10 speed good or bad. But I guess no news is better that bad news

So I have a 2017 with 41k miles , my tranny seems to be having issues when going into lockup .

I have a friend that owns a tranny shop and is very good.

I talked to him and told

him my issue .. he said “if it wasn’t for. Heavy we would be out of business”

He said they see three to four a week.

Issue is the torque converter springs are weak and let lose and chew up the tranny and send metal through the whole thing .

He said they wave seen them from 24k miles on up to 100k or more .

He said if we catch it before it’s a replacement TC , the new ones don’t have the springs because they are not needed .. cost 1500

If it blows then it’s like 5 k rebuild ..

Have any of you that own one seen issues ?

Your friend is telling you a 1/2 truth .  There isn't problems with all the 1500 transmissions . In 2016 Chevy changed over some of the transmissions in the higher end 1500 like the LTZ and the High Country models from a 6 speed to an 8 speed transmission . The 8 speed is the one thats having issues . not the 6 speed . In 2017 -2019 they put the 8 speed in all the higher end 1500's . I think now they are all 10 speed transmissions.  I have a 2016 LT1  Dual Cab  6 speed with 52,000 miles and no issues.

" What is the 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 transmission lawsuit?

The class action lawsuit claims the its 8L45E and 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmissions in thirteen different GM vehicle models produced between 2015 and March 1st, 2019 are defective.Mar 23, 2023 "

I had a 2005 Chevy 1500 Z71 that I bought new . I had to replace the tranny in 2017 with 173,000 miles on it . There is a tranny place here that is top notch called TRANSMEDIC . They replaced my tranny with a rebuilt for $2100 and it was good as new. I used that truck as my work and hunting truck. Didn't want to scratch up my newer truck on the logging roads in Maine LOL . I sold that truck in 2022 for $2500 with 231,000 miles on it A friend of mine just had his tranny replaced on his 2018 Chevy 1500 LTZ . It had 145,000 miles on it . Same place TRANSMEDIC for $2650 .  Your buddy doesn't have a AAMCO shop does he ?  They are  Ripoff artists !  I dealt with them on my sons car when he was in college . The car had 140K on it .They quoted him $5,600 to rebuild the tranny on a 2001 Toyota Rav back in 2009 . I told them they were nuts ! I had the car towed to my guy for $250 . They rebuilt it for $2000 like brand new . So good that the car was past down to my daughter next , and then my youngest son who finally crashed it with 237,000 on it . Of all places , some $80,000 BMW crashed into him in a MacDonalds  parking lot  in the winter when he was sitting in the Drive-Thru line  LOL

Your posts fit your user name . Nothing But Junk !   You must live in LaLa Land !  I hear Mayor Adams is looking for places to drop off some illegals that need food and shelter . Why dont you take in 15-20 at your house on your dime. Thats if you have any money left after you pay off all your neighbors student loans . And if you have any funds left by some miracle , start filling the Strategic oil Reserve to replenish the 500 million barrels that Biden drained out of it. Oh Wait ! How are you going to do that when the same idiot shut down fracking and drilling ? maybe buy more from Russia and Venezuela and put 86,000 Americans with good paying jobs out of work ? Or maybe cut down our forests and put up Chinese Solar Panels and Wind Mills that produce less than 30 percent of what they claim ? Yea thats really smart ! Dont get me started the Carbon Credit Scam your idiot signed us up for . Skeleton Corporations run by foreign oligarchs are buying up forestland in Maine and New Hampshire to sell carbon credits to companies around the world . Im sure this is happening in NY also. This does ZERO for any of your so called scam " Climate Change "  All it does is make a pile of politically connected thieves richer and the average person poorer which is most likely the end game goal. .

I saw Piglosi being interviewed the other day praising how great of a job Biden is doing with the claim he created 15 MILLION new jobs ! What A Scam !  Do this yourself why dont you look up the graph of the US Labor Participation Rate for the last 15 years to cover even the Obama , Trump ,and Biden years in office . You will find that it slid downwards for 8  straight years with Obama while the numbers of people on welfare and food stamps soared during the same time frame. Then look at the Trump years. You would find that 5 million people climbed out of welfare and 4 million no longer needed food stamp assistance . The Participation rate climbed by 7 million . And then there was Covid and total shutdown that has now proven to have been the wrong thing to do. Thanks Fauci ! Is he one of your brilliant scientists you claim in your last meme ? Back to Piglosi's  claim of the idiot Biden created 15 million jobs . Look at the graph. On the contrary. Biden is STILL 2 million jobs short from the statistics from January 2020. He hasn't created a single job in 3 years ! Because you let people go back to work doesn't mean you CREATED the job !

Your other climate scientists are even worse ! The real scientist who had nothing to gain pointed to the real cause of " climate change " in the 60's , 70's , 80's , and early 90's . Those scientist were warning us for decades what the real cause was. Deforestation In The World Most Sensitive Forests Of The World . The Amazon and Congo Rain Forests that take in 65 percent of carbon out of the air ! I could post 50 links to their studies and warnings . If you keep cutting them down , the more carbon stays in the atmosphere .They had it right until your hero Al Gore shut them up . Now he is making 100's of millions selling useless carbon credits while cutting down thousands and thousands of acres of rain forests mining Cobalt and Lithium . Hows that frozen battery car working for you ? like the thousands of stranded cars last week ?

Im going to end this rant with one last note . I refuse to lower myself to a fools level to prove to them how foolish they are. I would be a fool thinking I could educate a fool . I will stay on higher ground. My apologies to FastEddie for the rant. And Junkman , you are entitled to your opinion even though its a foolish one .

One day after school, I was over there after the raiding squirrels and I shot one up near the top of the tree.  My shot was aimed in a safe direction (away from the road), but the squirrel bounced around a bit on its fall, and landed right on that little stand, between baskets of produce, while there was a customer there shopping.

I remember the old woman telling the somewhat shell shocked customer: “he’s been after that one for a long time”.

Wolc , I'm disappointed . I was waiting to hear that the customer asked " How much for the fresh squirrel ? " and the lady telling the customer " Thats a big one ! Gotta get at least $5 for it being big and a fresh drop right from the squirrel tree "

  6. This is all  Bullchit from the Libs !  They did this same thing in California last year with the same type of commission to tally up what reparations would cost and who is eligible. they came up with some figure north of a Trillion . Then they silently scrapped the whole thing like it is still in some committee.

Its all about trying to keep the blacks voting for Demorats since it came out that they are losing ground with them. They want to keep pushing out the narrative that they will never get their reparations check if they vote Republican. The Dems know this is never going to happen for a million different reasons even way beyond what the post above that " Hunter " posted .

    I was in Walmart today

If I’m im Maine on vacation, can I buy ammo ?

I built  a new house up in central Maine in 1992 that is my hunting camp . I asked the local gun shop this exact question if a guy coming to our house from NY can just buy ammo for his rifle .  Their policy is they check your ID for your age , not for wear you live. You can buy the ammo with no issue . Once you leave the store its your ammo and you can do what you want with it . They dont keep any records of who bought what or how many of each or where they live. There is no information kept or transferred or notification sent to any state government or agency.

In other words , its your ammo and you can take it home with you. I read somewhere that Witch Hole Hochul was asking the bordering  states to NY , Penn , Ohio , and Vermont, to cooperate with them to report ammo sales to NY residents . As far as I know they all told her she can take a nose dive in the crap hole she created . They were not obligated to do more paperwork and costs for her benefit.

I agree; so, it depends more on OUR behavior when theyre around us than the fact that theyre around us and make contact w/ us, correct? I remember reading an article in D&DH where a hunter described his tactics for getting a wily farm buck; what he did, was, observe the deer for awhile before even trying to hunt him. Through his observations, he noted that the Buck was NEVER alarmed by the farmhands being around in the fields performing farm chores like mowing, baling, etc, despite the loud noises made from the equipment.  As a matter of fact, one of the hands would blast Spanish music really loud while riding on the tractor. The hunter, then, used this info and drove to his spot blasting spanish music , noting the deer were conditioned to that noise and didnt alarm them. Cant do the same thing, though, with a big woods deer , so, I guess theyre harder to hunt , overall?

This is not about a deer , but about a woodchuck . Years ago a couple of my buddies loved hunting them in farm fields. There was this one smartass chuck that had his hole right next to a small island clump of trees in the field about 150 yards out . Of course they had to get out of the truck to shoot . My buddy missed the shot at this chuck . Every time afterwards when they drove down that farm road that chuck would run like hell back down into his hole before they could even get out of the truck . One thing to note is they always took my buddies old truck that had a louder exhaust on these hunts . After 7 or 8 times seeing that woodchuck run down his hole , he figured that chuck knew the sound of his truck meant danger. We thought he was nuts and that chuck probably runs scared now with any vehicle going down that farm road  The next time they tried they took his friends car instead . Sure enough , that freakin chuck met his match and just sat there and got blasted. LOL . We had so much fun making jokes at my buddy for years after that. Sent him anonymous birthday  and christmas cards with a woodchuck pic on it with different sayings like " Miss Me Yet ? " or " Did You Fix That Exhaust pipe Yet ? "  LOL  Critters do decipher different sounds and actions

What an afternoon. I get to my stand at 3:30 wind , temps were perfect. I hear a shot not too far away. Sounded like it was on my property. My neighbor gets back to me that there was a button buck in my corn field with the ass eaten out of it. Just standing there shaking. Seems like the yotes got this deer but didn't finish the process. Guys it was gross what I saw. He put the deer down. A good thing. So about 4:15 to my right I see two large deer. I have no idea if they were two bucks or a buck locked onto a doe. All I know is the buck started heading my way. It was a real nice 10 pt. Shooter goes off in my mind. I think that second deer was another buck but I never saw horns. So here he comes at 30 yards slight quarter to. I put a slug through the front shoulder and it exits through ribs. He goes down in front plowing up the leaves. I knew I had a good hit but he got out of sight. I get down and head for where I last saw him. Took a few minutes but I found him. Beautiful 10 pt. One tine was sligfhtkly broken and he had a scar on the upper part of nose. I thought that this could of been the buck that My neighbor and I hit opening day. Upon looking at the deer the back hoof was shot off. It was dangling and he was walking on bone. My neighbor and I agreed the buck on opening day was much bigger.  I was thrilled to get this deer this late in season. 5 seconds before I shot this deer my brother texted. Telling me to shoot a big one so you can spend more time with your girlfriend! It worked!!!! Enjoy the picts.

Nice Buck FL ! Congrats !  Looks like you did that one a favor also . Although he probably would of survived with the hoof gone , I think he still would of been run down by the Yotes because it was the back leg.

We’ll time to admit dragging deer at 64 yrs old isn’t fun anymore .

most of my spots I can get to with my 4 wheeler but one spot I can’t

so it’s a sled or cart

i know the cart is cheaper but which is best ?

have you guys tried that hawk hauler cart ?

DONT buy the Hawk Hauler !  You will bust your butt getting that in and out of the woods. The wheels are too small and get caught up in everything. Not to mention it weighs at least 40 lbs .Im sure it works fine tied to an ATV going up a logging  road but is horrible in any woods with undergrowth.  I used mine to bring a 20ft climbing stick and a hang on stand through the woods. It would of been 3 times as easy to just carry them in. The 2 wheel aluminum carts with big wheels that weigh 25 lbs do just fine. Not the Hauler

Its only the cities that vote your fruitcake Lib democrats in . Looks to me like a shot from an elevated position at a deer walking away from the shooter. People do take to really awful shots. But no matter what the cause, we can all agree that is a nasty wound! I doubt that deer will avoid getting infected and dying.

You would be surprised NYH . Seen one big Doe that had a 2 ft slice about 8 inches down from her spine . The gap in the middle was close to 8 inches wide . took her about 5 months to heal up. But she was fine with a long scar .  They are tough. Thats for sure.

  15. Barbed wire fence is my guess because I've seen it happen just like that. I didn't see the buck actually do it , but the fresh wound looked very similar to that and still bleeding on the cam vid . The next day we found hair and hide hanging from a barbed wire fence and a blood trail heading towards the camera that was about 100 yards from the fence . No doubt it was the fence and the wound looked was just like this one. A long slice .

Seen others that had long slices down their backs that were probably was running under the fence and bounded upwards and caught a barb and sliced them.

  16. Feels like forever ago sometime around the early 1990's I brought my Browning Bar to a gunsmith to be reblued and have a synthetic stock put on to replace the wooden gloss finish stock I tend to hold that gun while still hunting right where the forearm meets the steel receiver and  was wearing out the bluing on that spot.. He talked me into a parkerized matt finish instead of bluing . I have never regretted it. I bought this gun in 1985 new. So in 8 years or so the bluing was almost worn out down to the metal .  I hunted with that gun the same way until 2018. Roughly 25+ years since it was parkerized. Still looks new minus a couple surface buff marks from branches that never made it through the finish. Im not a fan of the camo colored barrels . I will stay with matt finish for barrels and receivers.  But I do like some synthetic camo stocks.

Wolc what happened to your Hammock Seat ? They are great !  i bought a couple of the Dead Ringer back 5 years ago . I liked it so much I wanted to get a few more, but they were no longer available. So I ended up buying a few of a different brand that are also very good . Love these seats. Being able to swivel to get the shot is a game changer. One of the brands I bought came with a cam buckle strap instead of a plastic buckle. When I find a hot ambush spot I set one up and leave it there. I will never sit on the ground or logs again !  LOL

There are several solutions to have the ability to use a rifle's iron sights if one has a scope problem.

The see underneath-through scope rings are the easiest to install as they will fit picatinny and Weaver style bases. As Wolc said they will place the scope high and may not give the best scope-eye alignment with most of today's  current rifle stocks which for the most part are made to have the shooter's eye 1 1/2" above the rifle's bore.

Weaver made what they called pivot rings and mounts, the rings were attached to the base with a hinge type set up with a snap fit. Just grab the scope and flip it off to the side exposing the rifle's iron sights. These did not fit a wide variety of rifle makes and I believe are no longer being manufactured but are available on ebay many times, they worked half way decent.

My favorite setup is the quick detachable rings that grab the scope base with a lever actuated grip. I have used and tested it on a couple of my rifles and they work as advertised. The scope removed and put back on will be right on target, at least on my rifles they are.

All the above work so whatever suits the shooter that is the one to use.

I had a pivot mount forever ago on my rem 742 . Could never get it to work perfectly but it might have been worn out a bit on the hinge or the clamp part. Not sure . But I did leave it on the gun just to look for horns with the scope hunting Vermont when it was bucks only.

The second one with the small see thru hole is drastically limited in iron sight vision. Unfortunately the companies that made the best quality see thru sites went out of business. Kwik site , Iron Sighter , and Clear View were the best. Millet also made an excellent see thru mount for one inch tubes .most all one inch see thru mounts were gun specific .One reason was the pandemic , but the bigger reason was gun manufactures started only making high powered rifles with no iron sights. So there was no need for see thru mounts. You are forced to use only scopes unless you wanted to pay to have iron sights put on by a gunsmith . Most of their see thru mounts were gun specific . Leupold makes the Rifleman  universal one inch tube see thru mount, but its kind of narrow and I think recoil might be a factor considering it only has one screw on each side of the scope holding it . Oh and 30mm ? Forget it. Nobody makes one that you can actually see through worth a damn.  Your 3rd option , the detachable mount is only good for storing a gun in a case . It might be right on sighting in wise , but its worthless out in the deer woods unless you are going to use one or the other. You dont have the option to use both the scope and iron sights. Its either the scope is on and no iron sights or scope off using just iron sights .  The 30mm Iron sighter universal see thru mounts are like finding a ghost. But I did manga to find 5 extra ones over the past 2 years looking for them every day. Haven't seen one in a maybe 6 months now. I have a few extra one inch gun specific Millet , Kwiksite and Ironsighter for the Browning Bars , Rem 742's and Rem 7600's I own just in case I need them . But I really like the 30mm scopes better now.

The see thru mounts always put the scope up way too high.  Check our the Warne removable mounts.  They may do what you are looking for, based on AD’s post on top of P.2 on this thread.

Thats your opinion . Not mine ! Ever since I put see thru mounts on my Browning Bar in 1985 I haven't looked back . I took all my other mounts off all my rifles and changed them to see thru mounts. Best move I ever made . They are no higher than a  High standard mount. One 6 point buck I shot on the run in Maine 3 years ago would highly disagree with you. Jumped him at the edge of a cutting. Fired the 1st shot with the scope at 35 yards and grazed him before he ran into the hemlocks. I only grazed him because bullet hit a sapling before it got to him. The next 3 shots at him running through the hemlocks with iron sights. Then as he broke out of the hemlocks at 65-70 yards I could tell he was hurt and staggering. Put the 5th shot with the scope through the lungs right before he went out of sight. he dropped as soon as he got out of sight. i hit him twice with the scope and twice with the iron sights . I can change my aim  from one to the other in fractions of a second . The main thing I would say about the scope is to use a scope with an objective lens of 20mm for 1 inch tubes  and 24mm for 30mm tubes work best .

This is what my iron sights look like on my Browning Bar with a Leupold VX6 1x6 Firedot Duplex 30mm scope with a 24mm objective lens on top . I could never understand why some people use those detachable mounts . You going to somehow rip that scope off when its fogged up or has snow on the lens when you are still hunting or tracking a deer and its running ?  I bet I have shot at least 20 deer in the past that I would not have gotten if I didn't have see thru mounts

  20. I bought this pump that came as a 2 pack special for $20 that runs on 3 AA batteries. One of those late nite infomercials on  TV .

To my surprise the stupid thing works great ! Its not a speed demon , but it pumps about 2gpm . I use it mostly to pump the old gas out of the ATVs when they are done for the hunting season and use the gas in the snow blower, leaf blowers , generator , skimobiles , or wherever is needed . I only use 2-2 1/2 gal  gas cans so its easier to put gas in those tanks . The only one I fill with a 5gal can is the generator with a big funnel so I can just pour it in.

  21. Thanks everyone !  Unfortunately it wasn't a very good one .  Morning started off great with the usual calls from my hunting buddies giving me the ribbing . Then about 10:30am my mom calls . My B Day is the 13th and hers is the 18th, so we are making plans for a family GTG dinner in between to celebrate both . Mom turned 89 on Monday . We got her an electric scooter which got delivered that morning that I was in process of putting together . My brother calls me at 12pm . I figure he is calling me to make sure the scooter was delivered . Instead he is frantic and in panic mode telling me my mom tripped over a threshold and now being rushed to the hospital in excruciating pain. So I rush to the hospital an hour away. And thats where I have been since . She broke her femur bone in 2 places and jammed the ball inter the hip socket . They operated on her on Thursday and put a titanium rod in and screwed everything else together . They moved her yesterday to rehab . That was her B Day present. She is actually handling the pain better than expected . Maybe better than I would ! LOL . But still , she has high anxiety with every movement . Unfortunately has to go through this to get her mobility back.

Thanks for reading , and hope all is well for all of you.
