Well everything worked out minus the big boy closing the last 50yrds. Had to coyote howl to get them off the field so I could sneak out. Have to go back in the morning after kids get on the bus to pull my setup since it’s on stateland.
they came out at 515 and fed from 125-83 and would make that final commitment.
Wow!

Correct you are, VH , but sorely needs to be re-addressed , I believe, considering the controversy surrounding the FBI and its clear & demonstrable left leaning bias as of late.
No controversy. Just a sad ex president clawing for any angle, no matter the consequences

We were there last summer for two weeks - ecocruise on a small 16-person vessel for a week hiking and kayaking in Prince Williams sound, then heli-fished three days on Clear Creak out of Talkeetna while the wife hiked Denali (Mt. McKinley for those of us who grew up in the 70s), then a bit more hiking for the two of us around Talkeetna. Awesome trip, great weather, lots of wildlife. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
The wife was back up to Alaska two weeks ago for a meeting on perceptual learning, but didn't get to venture far from Alyeska lodge with dawn to dusk talks, and it rained non-stop while she was there. We made up for it by hooking up in Banff (her coming from the west and me coming from the east, with no hiccups amazingly) and hiking for a week; unreal vistas, too dang many people. We were first on the trail in the morning and had them to ourselves going up. But coming down was like bumper cars with dozens if not hundreds of other folks climbing. The trail head parking lots were full by 9 am. Lake Louise and Moraine Lakes were almost completely inaccessible. LIke I say, amazing place, but I won't be going back soon.
Perceptual learning conference in Alaska! How do I get on that mailing list?

Forever wild is state parks of NY not DEP. DEP is technically private so they can do as they please. They are most definitely logging their forests, but its mostly because they see an improvement of water quality. The improved habitat is a happy byproduct for them. At least this is what was explained to me by the foresters I've spoken to
Haha! Right on cue! (I almost tagged you my post)

Permits are free and easy to acquire, but not all DEP land requires them. In fact, other than the land around the reservoirs, I almost never see "permit required" land. Here are the various signs you will come across.
Man, I’ve been putting my little DEP permit at every DEP site I go to. I’ve gotta read the rules more carefully.
The DEP is also doing forest management? That’s great! I thought their approach was to not touch it and leave it in a forever wild state. Is this new? Do you now if the cut locations and dates are posted? -

Is a permit still required to access the NYC watershed properties? Seems I remember that they might have dropped that requirement a while back, but I could be wrong.
Yes, still required but still free. Some DEP areas are heavily patrolled by DEP police so definitely get one

No. Midge has no preference who it bites.
I think you’re probably right that midges have no preferences. But there may be metabolic differences between bucks and does (especially this time of year during rapid antler growth) that makes bucks more susceptible to dying of EHD. Most of the “dead near water” pictures that I’ve seen are of bucks. Perhaps it’s just that dead antlered deer are more striking and so those pictures are shared more often…

Are bucks more susceptible to EHD than does?

The further north in NY you go the better it will be. Look for forests that have been actively managed (cut). If you can walk comfortably through the woods, the age class to probably too old. Find something younger and thicker. Join the Ruffed Grouse Society.

Why is "Pain" the norm whenever Democrats control the country?
Well, it’s clear that you’ve been hurting for some time. Fortunately there’s help out there. You just have pull yourself up by your bootstraps and go get it.

this is what I came here to say. You don't have to be a biologist to drive down the road and see that once fallow field is now a housing development. You don't need to be a biologist to see the old overgrown vineyard or field is now a corn field. I don't know if I believe predator increase is as substantial as some think (there is all sorts of data out there about wolves and elk that don't line up with the publics opinion on predator impact), but I do firmly believe that habitat loss is a huge factor. I listened to an actual biologist from the NWTF talk about the fact that 1 in 6 eggs actually hatch. Then 1 in 6 polts make it the first month, then from there only 1 in 6 make it to a year. Those odds are crazy.
Good contiguous habitat will mitigate these challenges (predators, disease). The problem arises when you have small fragmented parcels of adequate habitat and disease strikes or predators surge. You can lose the entire local population in such instances, as we’ve seen with grouse

I used to be a great teacher - thoughtful assignments, high standards, earning an A was quite challenging, earning an F was quite possible, forcing students to redo sloppy work and come in before school or stay late after school to get students to where they need to be.
I still would be a great teacher but "you parents" (since we are making generalizations I guess that's all of you with kids) don't want that. When Little Johnny's essay (likely written by his mommy or tutor) came home slashed with red circles and corrections and a C- in the corner, I was blamed for making LJ feel bad because he was told the truth about his (and uh oh...maybe your) shortcomings. He shouldn't have to do it again or come in early or stay late because he feels singled out and embarrassed (and has lacrosse training!). He "deserves" an A because that would make him feel better.
If you parents can't accept that your spawn is not perfect and should be at school to be taught and teaching takes failure first and then you learn success and TRUST teachers to do what we choose to do as a career (or vocation?) and you parents keep telling then how evil and corrupt we are, you can no longer blame us for not doing our job..
We must agree that all kids are not honor students, right?
We must agree that all kids are not ready for higher education and maybe should pursue more menial labor positions (no shame in that!)?
We must agree that all kids are not winners, are not cute, are not funny, are not smart enough?
But how many would agree that THEIR LITTLE JOHNNY is all the above and that THEIR LJ will live up to Judge Smails epic statement on.children and education, "The world needs ditch differs too!"
Now I teach the children whose parents want their children actually taught and pass those others along. So sad what you parents have done to education.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkA good friend of mine had the aspirational (misguided?) dream to make a difference and decided to teach at a poor inner city high school. She lasted less than 5 years. Went back law school and is now making bank in DC. I’ve seen the system jade educators…
