lol. All gross. Anyways like I said after how many years in Ny it’s”Like None”. Compared to what the fella compared to Illinois…Even more so “Like None” Ny is far from a long time 200 inch harvest state.  Although any is great for sure.

Welcome to Ny. Home to oh so many idiots that would vote left even if their demise was on the line.

This is what Bidens allowing to sashay across the southern border! I was discussing this last evening with a Libbie from, ironically, Texas who is too busy feeling sorry for these "brown people" (her term used repeatedly)and is wholly unconcerned with American citizens. For the life of me, I just cant understand this!!

Exactly. And now these same idiots are on a bus headed towards California. Black,Brown or green they are just 20-30 year old males that will just make more gangs and destroy any area they end up calling home. Anyone that would vote anything left in this country these days are a special kind of fool.

I think that censoring opinions in any fashion, through active means or simply wearing folks down who don't have the bandwidth to constantly go back-and-forth diminishes us all. It leads to internet reverb, where a select few reinforce each other's opinions. I am not trying to engage in political commentary, but instead I'm expressing an opinion on social media, including message boards. Name calling, aggression, unwillingness to admit culpability of to even consider being in the wrong...it occurs on both sides of the fence. It's tough to see, and responding feels like screaming into the void. I've been active on this board for many years. I hope it continues to do well. I applaud efforts to focus on our core strengths, while maintaining individuality. But the whole blame game and denigration of other hunters is tough to take.

Exactly. And the Select Few that you speak of that carried the Wolf Pack mentality and ganged up to belittle others are now history and this site so much better for it. Amazes me that some come back on here saying how bad this site is with only our 4-5 Regular posters. When in the real world there are now many more that post on here that didn’t in the past because of the wolf pack. They say the site is doomed yet the members here continue to enjoy it daily and those nay sayers continue to feel the need to try and downgrade it.

What sense does it make to even wear a back tag? You don't wear your fishing license? License in wallet is good enough. I've been at myt place 17 years only once did I run into a DEC officer. Checked tags on my deer never askmed for license or back tag. It's silly.

I never wear the noise makers rubbing against the tree as you try to get your bow in position for a shot. Although the law down on Letchworth is the only place I have been asked about it.

I read your statement twice. I strongly disagree with the part of 200" deer like never exist in New York. Actually, quite a few 200"+ deer are harvested in NY. In the wild.

    By all means. Do show.

I never excepted the PM to jump ship when the exodus occurred. While it bummed me out to see some leave, I was glad to see the arrogant, name calling, self proclaimed medical and political experts hit the road. While me and my family were under enormous pressure taking care of patients, and with me working away from home on the front line taking care of veterans with serious mental health and medical needs the entire "The War  on Covid", I had to listen to many sitting home on their asses getting paid spew their hatred, ignorance, and venom. And, when one went so far as to personally attack me and reference me as a Nazi when I expressed my American patriotism and I did not jump on the hey I'm a Ukrainian bandwagon, I knew I had enough.

Again, one only need go back and read the old posts to see which members were in the end on the side of things that turned out to be correct.  I have no ill will for many who left, but I must be honest and say there were several who I feel were, or at least tried to be, the real destruction of this site and I am glad they left. In the end, I think they failed at that mission to bring this site down and some can't let it go. I hope the one's who got it all wrong and now share personal responsibility for voting for this world mess, have a shred of integrity and can look into their kids and grand kids eyes and say I'm sorry. But I doubt it!

Where you and I differ FS, and that's ok, we just seem to see things differently in this regard. I do enjoy hearing about people shooting squirrels, rabbits, big and little deer, how to pickle heart, how the garden is doing, etc. I even like to hear when people "saw 9 deer tonight with two being small bucks not big enough to shoot". I like to hear about all kinds of things related to the outdoors from people who like to share their thoughts and experiences. There were a couple people that left who I really admired with their skills at making venison sausage and such, and would have loved to have learned from them.

I'm still working full time at my age in a very hectic, challenging, physically and emotionally draining profession, and my time to be in the field is limited, so I do enjoy getting the connection even through the eyes of others. I don't have anyone to hunt with anymore since all grew up and moved away or died. So the deer camp experience I enjoyed, for me is gone.  Young or old, I'm happy as can be for someone when they shoot a doe, a spike, or a huge rack buck, because to me it's all good. If someone has the lifestyle that allows them to be able to spend lots of money and time locating a big buck, and access to the property, and they can grit it out and kill the deer, I would high five them. I would high five and congratulate you FS!  But, I suspect most people don't have the good fortune of endless free time and money even if they have the skill set to accomplish the same thing. So, I high five and congratulate anyone who has a successful hunt and a smile on their face. :  )

P.S. I have several really nice bucks mounted from my younger days, as well as a full bear mount, bear rug, a bunch of racks and hides all gathering dust on the walls of my garage. They mean nothing to anyone other than me and when I die will probably just get tossed. Just like money, they say you can't take it with you. But I'm hoping I will be able to take my memories. And you know what? My favorite deer memory was my first deer taken, a spike horn, with a Robinhood Little John bow, and my retired Army Major uncle lifelong hunting partner, now long gone, putting his finger in the blood and streaking it on my face as a ritual, and the look of pride on his face.

That's my favorite hunting memory, not any of the wall hangers in my garage.

Agree 99.9%. The 9 deer 2 little bucks come from those that say big deer does not matter to them that it’s all about meat. Yet that tag would have fit in either of those 2 little bucks just fine. And my very good guess is that It came from one that I’m sure you are glad that they are gone now.    Glad you can also see the ones that continue to come back just to stir the pots on certain posts and offer very little to nothing hunting related to this site. We have lots of room for another hunter on each ends of the state if you get that locked out of hunting land that you can’t put your tag on a great buck. So many to be had.

A good season for me; would have liked a buck with the bow or ML’r but didn’t see the “right” one.   Passed a pile with the bow and a few in the late season.

Most importantly the freezer is runneth’ over.  Lol

So what might the “Right” one have looked like for you to fill that tag?

  9. 1 hour ago, Grouse said:

I'm confused.  And I know of a number of high fence deer hunting places that raise their deer inside their fenced in hunting operation.

Some do but they have the Raising part in the smaller farm pens and release the ones they want gone that year into the bigger hunting area. Farm and ranch are usually a huge difference in acreage. With the states being in control of numbers and tagging and testing and such it would be tough to just say fence in a 300 acre square and have at it. As far as the poster above you read that he hunts farm land in Ny and he also goes to Illinois and hunts farm land there. He talks of bucks pushing 200 inches and that will happen in Illinois and like never in Ny.  I have 1000 acres here that is active “Farm” land that we manage our hunting and Whitetails on and 50 acres of high fenced land that we raise Whitetails on. Two different pieces both involved in different Farming practices.

  10. 22 minutes ago, Grouse said:

Once I hear the phrase "deer on the farm", I think of fences and feeders and big deer that are not wild.  These deer make impressive mounts on the wall, but the hunter doesn't have a real adventurous, challenging, skill filled hunting experience to tell with it.

This is what I think the desire for big antlers has created.  The chance to pay a fortune to score a big antlered buck and show it off.  The hunters can't claim to have strength or endurance as a skill set, as most are elderly and look like they couldn't make it to the top of my hill to hunt.  They seem to be filling a bucket list with cash they don't want to leave to their heirs.

The younger guys are hunting from an elevated stand with all the comforts of home and waiting for the feeder to go off to bring the deer in.  Challenging?  When I see these shows on TV, all I can think is how the public thinks this is what hunting is like today.  It's sad.

Nobody hunts deer on a “Farm” when it comes to high fence hunting.  Farms raise them on smaller property and the send them out to hunting “Ranches” to the end. I have farms on both ends of the state that are active farms yet not high fence and the I have a high fence property I raise deer on. Kinda all in the wording I guess.

My agenda was pretty obvious. I told grampy I liked his post, but it might get him banned.

But I see you like to visit.  I believe you are a member. If that site is so bad, why did you join? Why do you "look" ?

You like it here, just the way it is, but there you are on the site you openly bash but won't post the link to.

Your agenda is right there in black and white. And you will die an old man before you see me as a member on any other forum.   You few will crawl back in your holes and we will enjoy the site for what it is once again.  Never bash any sites and never need to join two. Especially that one. Thanks.

I honestly don't understand the venom being thrown at members here who just choose to be on multiple forums?? When YOU are the biggest detriment to this, or any other forum with your bragging about nothing posts. Because YOU are just a poser, who needs to come here for an audience to boost your fragile ego. I figured you out long ago. I've mentored kids who in "real life" are twice the hunter you CLAIM to be. Anytime you want to go head to head with me in the woods, in any capacity, you give me a call! I will wait for your lame response for a good laugh Mayor Poser.

How many others here watch only one TV channel? Listen to only one radio station? Never use FB, Google, or any other online medium?? This is 2024! Everyone goes from place to place! What's the big deal about me or anyone else, being a member of multiple forums?? I have been a member here for a long freakin time!! I don't come here to disparage this place!! And I NEVER have! I add content in a thoughtful manner. Unlike a certain AH member here does!! So now, other longtime members who I've respected for years, are calling me out because I am on another forum??? Look back at my content over the years I've been here!! I have been nothing but supportive and added positive posts to this place! I am not the absentee owner who ripped off members of this site! And who refuses to help out his own moderators in any way. With even a simple E-Mail! Or could give two craps about this place!!! I actually care!

You couple who want to see me leave for making a free choice, can go pound salt! I am every bit as much a member here as you are! I will stay a member here to the end! I have done nothing to be banned! I will continue to post in a positive way! Just like I always have! If I am to be banned for speaking my mind here, then there are a couple others who should be as well for speaking theirs!

This is all so childish and needless. Get over it!

Ahhh.  There he is. Only Steve and Moho to go. Give it time.  Let’s hope the one mod that will see thru your agenda will do something.  As you once again with the 4-5 other cronies only show up when someone posts about the other site and NEVER add anything hunting related.    And bragging. Haha. Wipe that off your chin. It’s getting old. Just because you can’t walk the walk don’t down those that can.

Add words. Do tell?  I wish you would give us some of the names of these other great sites we have choices to attend. I may be interested in joining another or two.

Ah, but who started these threads? Not the ones you claim jumped ship or are looking for this place to die, or stirring the pot.

I'd like John to show up and explain what and why and hopefully get things back on track. Doesn't look like that's going to happen though.

No.  Not the John that will deal with you few that try to push the other site without having the nad’s to name that site. There is another mod that just might end the stupidity.

Please show where he (or anyone for that matter) has said this site is “a piece of crap”.

Im going to reheat my coffee, back in a few minutes.    Thanks

Oh so saying they can’t get no new buddies to join in on their activities on this site does not imply exactly what they mean. You think others do not read words elsewhere?  Even yourself never shows up with a comment until something is brought up about another site with anything of value. Not real tough to read between the lines. You know like they try to say the site without having the balls to actually say the site.

    7 minutes ago, mowin said:

Again.. no one is jumping ship.  You make it seem if someone chooses to join another site that they are dissing this site.  I don't understand your logic. It doesn't make sense.

You bitch and complain on this site and that one that this place is doomed because of a lost owner and no new friends can jump in and yas all left. Now you feel the need to come back pushing the other site to those of us that obviously didn’t want to go to another so called better site   So you come back on this site and still offer little if any to the site except push the other. You few have done nothing but diss this site on this site and that one. Obviously those that stayed could care less

Lets cut to the chase, they are here to undermine this site in any way they can, the sorry excuses for being here are laughable. They are not satisfied that they have a site that they always wanted and brag up, this site must be destroyed as far as they are concerned. It shows every time they come here, and these shits shows are they only time you see them for the most part, not to contribute useful tips to the board members all the rest of the times. Ya they post a complimentary post once in a while to keep their feet in the door, that is about it. Quit the charade!

    Al

Exactly.  And the only Mod does nothing about it. They never start a tread. They most definitely to not put up any harvest threads. I get a kick out of that one on a hunting site. I guess we know the reason for that one. If holding each others hand over there is so great what’s the need to come here?  Great people they say. Yet those chose to stay here. No need to be on two exact sites in the same state.

  19. 21 minutes ago, mowin said:

I'm sorry to inform you, but most of your guests hits are most likely bots gathering info.  Since the owner is MIA, nothing is being done to stop the issue.

And yet you’re still here stirring the pot.  Such a bad site yet you feel the need to continue to show up and crap on peoples threads.

  20. 14 minutes ago, mowin said:

No one is asking anyone to jump ship. I've said multiple times I enjoy both sites, as do others. Not quite understanding this " only one site" BS. Join, interact just as you do here or don't.  Others might want the option.

Why don't you post up the other sites name and web address as the one to avoid seeing you hate it so much.

oh.. I wish John would show up and dump the stupidity. It definitely needs dumping.

I don’t need to come in this site and drop hints and the sorts to others like you and a couple other do. Kinda like the guy had to do that started that sites.  You know exactly what will happen if you say the site and Eddie might let ya’s play your stupid games but John probably won’t be so kind. Time will tell. If that site is so great and this site a piece of crap why the need to come back?  Obviously anyone still here does not feel the need to jump ship. Do you keep going back to your old girlfriend after you left her also?

I have to admit that when I heard my dad describe me as the outdoorsman of the family, that I did feel some pride from that. But that did not become the driver for my reasons for hunting. Frankly, I have to say that now-a-days, the best that you could ever get from most people is a polite, "That's nice".

My reasons for hunting are personal and within myself. My accomplishments are internally valued. Do I need the approval of others in order to enjoy hunting?......Absolutely not. If I did, I probably would not be into it because there really isn't a whole lot of approval for hunting going on these days. I never needed recognition from anybody for the fish that I catch or the trapping successes that I had as a kid. None of these things has anything to do with anyone's approval but my own. These things are between me and nature's creatures and my ability to best them. That's where my satisfaction comes from, not other people's approvals or out-doing other hunters. I don't need scoring systems and such to measure my satisfactions and fulfillment. I don't compete against anyone but the critters that I take.

So you talk smack about they way I hunt and my choices of hunting only certain bucks one on one and then you write your last sentence….I don’t compete against anyone but the critters I take.  Which is just what I do. Perfect!!

I used to small game hunt when I was a kid. I still do like to turkey hunt. My passion is bowhunting... not so much gun anymore.

Today at my older age I hunt for the challenge first. I do really like venison but to me it is secondary. I can get venison most any year with the bow or gun.. I hunt for the opportunity to kill a big mature white tail buck.

In NY my sights are lower... say a 130 class buck. I try to go to IL each year when I can to have the opportunity to kill a real trophy buck say 160+. Twice I've seen and once had an opportunity to kill a true monster buck in IL. In 2012 I had a shot at the monarch of the farm... a true 200" buck but at 40 yds shot just under the heart. The other time was 2018 same farm a 185" but was not close enough for a shot. The memory of each is etched into my brain forever.

No truer words spoken. It’s not much of a real challenge to just kill the dumbest deer in the woods.  And sorry to say to some that those of us that choose to hunt only the best of the best…. We still get to enjoy every part of hunting that they do… Just add in a bunch more inches.

Not to be negative but the forum can not get new members and while guest traffic might be good actual member posts are way way down.

I don't see that as a good thing for the future.

Because some of us have real lives and don’t have to live life thru the internet and others not really in our lives. You think people really care to read someone’s daily life or what their cooking or the kind of drink they are drinking?  Or maybe read their words of them saying they saw 9 deer tonight with two being small bucks not big enough to shoot.  Only to read their words on another post saying big deer are not the driving force in hunting today. Perfect Reading.
