Lol. I started my deer hunting journey in the hills of West Virginia oh so many years ago borrowed from an uncle. Never shot anything but carried it for miles. Uncle has passed and who knows where that little gun might be today.

Mine finally broke. Forearm fell off it when I was shooting it. Never fixed it and gave it to someone.

Stories like this always make me wonder if the deer knew you were there and was waiting for you to leave before making his move.  I know bucks/deer learn to pattern us too.

State land with a constant flow of orange past the camera during gun season. So yeah they watch and know where you are.

First of the year in 5H for me. I always find them late up there, this is kinda early. Only a couple doe at last light. Temperatures were high, I'll be back when the temps drop next week.

Bucks aren't  being bothered by the heat. Chasing  hard today at 2pm. If you have a dark side of the mountain this time of yr hunt that. That's what I do and seeing lots of bucks moving in the middle of the day.

I do alot of shooting bench work testing my reloads. Before that, always zeroed in from a solid bench, even with shotguns. That said, I've shot a pile of deer, definitely the majority "free hand". The bench shooting always gave me the confidence the round would go where I aimed. 99% of the time it did.

I hate that other 1% with a passion lol
