Saw about 8 deer cross the field ahead of me at 200 yds. 2 are staring at me for 10 mins. Finally took off. Rain ending now. Hearing yelps across the other prop. Let's see some bobbing heads now....

Pretty warm 62 but damp in 4y. Heard couple gobbles in the distance on neighbors property and few minutes later... boom boom. Now it's all quiet on the western front.

After sitting in traffic for almost 4 hours, I finally made it to the cabin. What normally takes 2.2 hours became a miserable trip. Counted at least 7 accidents on the Bronx River Pkwy, the Sprain and Taconic. Hopefully tomorrow's Turkey hunt will wash that all away. Good luck to all heading out in the morning.

I'm heading up to the cabin tomorrow with my son for opening weekend turkey hunt. Anyone hunting in 4Y hearing any gobbles?
Hoping to at least see some birds moving about Saturday morning.

So after many months of planning, today was my son's Eagle Scout ceremony and was honored along with two other young men from his troop. It was an unbelievable day to say the least which started with the USMC Color Guard presenting The Colors and ending with many local dignitaries, legislators, mayors and others who presented many proclamations and certificates of recognition to all the boys. As the Eagle scout oath states: The Eagle rank is not the end but only the beginning.

So... after sitting for 4.5 hrs in 20 mph gusts in my back for a good 2 hrs, I saw 2 small 4 pointers, and at least 8 small doe, 3 of which came right under my tree. I let them all walk since I have no DMP this year. Headed back out after lunch for an afternoon sit. Hopefully the 8 ptr will show.....

So last minute call from my brother in law on weds had me scrambling to get my license and ammo and get my gear ready for opening weekend. Looking forward to taking a nice buck this weekend.

Thank you for all the good wishes. It was a tough road getting there but it's done. Now we concentrate on getting into a good college for mechanical engineering. God willing everything will fall into place....

I have not been browsing or posting on this forum for a while due to work and family obligations or even had the opportunity to go hunting yet this year.
But today I felt that I needed to brag a bit and share some great news with my fellow hunters.
Last night my son had his Board of Review and was awarded the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. He is now an Eagle Scout. I am a proud dad to say the least. Now the door has been opened to bigger and better opportunities for him.
That's all for now. Hopefully the next post will be of my son and me kneeling over a brute in the next few weeks.

Tag soup is not so bad....boil a pot of water, throw in your unused tags (in my case..all of them), add a bullion cube, salt and pepper to taste, stir and let simmer for 20 mins. Yum!

My view...This is only the second weekend up at the cabin this season due to work and family obligations. Cold, no wind about 6 inches of snow on ground lots of tracks in front of my stand. Lets hope they are hungry this morning. Should make for easy tracking on this fresh blanket of snow.
