  1. Hey Doc. Mine was stolen too and I replaced it with a new one and a lockbox. Just need to pick up a python cable to attach it to a tree. I hope you got a lockbox too. Still have tresspassers using our land. My BIL found a gut pile the last weekend of muzzy season on his property. He's going up today and to set other cameras high up off the ground and place an old broken one as a decoy at shoulder level. I hope we get the dirtbag!
  2. Too much food is an understatement!! My wife cooked for an army!
  3. Happy Birthday! And as Paula said enjoy your icy day while I sit in my yard on Long Island in a teeshirt and shorts puffing on my pipe.
  4. That was a great story Eddie. Thanks for the laugh!
  5. Dang! It's amazing that only a few hundred miles separates us from an Ice storm and 65 degrees on long island. Be safe!
  6. The only time I would quit is when I am too old to walk to my stand or blind. I will continue to hunt and mentor my son no matter what restrictions are in place. Hopefully my son will push me in my wheelchair or carry me to my blind.
  7. Oh Holy Night and Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire while sipping a glass of 21 yo Balvine single malt scotch sitting next to a roaring fire
  8. Try BJ's wholesale club. I've seen it a couple bucks cheaper there around this time of year.
  9. I would say I'm definitely in the 5 category and also in the 4. I love being up at the cabin with family and friends and just being up there away from everything else and come this spring I can't wait to show my son the ropes. I'm also in category 4 because I make a conscious decision on what implement I will hunt with or whether I will be sitting in my blind or climbing a tree every time I go.
  10. Update: I changed my mind I want a fully guided Spring Maine Black Bear Hunt!
  11. So last night my wife went out Xmas shopping. She comes home and I say "So what did you get me?" She says "What do you want?" And of course I say: "A guided spring Maine bear hunt!" LOL!! $2000 per hunter plus license fees of $350 I heard that anything other than the straps are too fatty or greasy. My friend who is planning this trip said that the first time he went and he saw this 400 lbs black bear and his knees started knocking together when it came close to his ladder stand. That is why you need a side arm. I want to be the one to whom St Peter says: "Dang you had a great life! Come on in ..."
  12. Oops. My bad. http://blackbearhunting.us/Spring.html
  13. Next June for 6 days but the wife thinks it's too dangerous. I told her how is this any different than deer hunting and of course she said bears climb trees deer dont! I said thats why you need to have a sidearm with you. The hunt is with this outfitter. http://blackbearhunting.us/Spring.html. Its a Spring bear hunt over bait. They guarantee you a shot but not getting a bear. Cost is $1995 includes lodging on a lake, maximum 6 hunters any one time, three meals daily. They arrange for all licenses and permits. You are brought to your tree and picked up each evening and brought back to the lodge. If you shoot a bear they help you track it, gut it and skin it. They also butcher it for you. Don't know much about this outfitter. Anyone deal with them? Good or bad experience?
  14. A poor season for me is going out in my tree or blind and not seeing a dang thing moving (sort of like this past bow season). A good season for me is having as many opportunities to be out in the woods considering the fact that two years ago I missed all of spring turkey due to an illness and I did not get a shot at anything during bow or gun season. A better season for me would be shooting one and having my freezer half-full regardless of whether it was a buck or doe. A great season was what happened to me this year - shooting a doe on opening day - firearms and an 8pt buck in the same afternoon. A fantastic stupendous season would be to shoot a deer during bow season, a doe and a buck during firearms and one during muzzleloader season.
  15. My wife asked me during dinner tonight what I want for Christmas. I said to her we already spent $7000 on a family cruise to the Bahamas in two weeks and if I want anything I would just get it myself. But she insisted so I told her I want a new scope for my muzzleloader and a new two man blind for me and my son when we go turkey hunting this coming spring and some other accessories. Her response was "I don't know what to get so maybe its better if you go yourself. How about I get you a pair of slippers?" I said "Perfect!" So would you guys consider that a green light to go on a shopping spree?
  16. Tonight's menu - Gyros and salad (take in) Edit: Sorry all out of Gyros. Wife is making linguine with clam sauce!! Yumm!
  17. John I was thinking of doing the same thing about 10 years ago but it was cost prohibited. Instead I ripped up the old cement, hired a mason (well not really - he was an old Italian friend of my FIL - I just paid for the cost of the cement - couple of hundred) and he laid down a nice smooth think layer of cement. Then I bought two rubber mats online from Home Depot for my two car garage for about $150 each. After the cement cured, I rolled out these two mats and the cement floor 10 years later is still as smooth as silk as if it was just poured. Here is the link. The mats get dirty or soiled but once a year it is very easy to pull them out onto my driveway, and using the power washer, they are as clean as they were when I got them. I'd rather get the mats dirty than the cement. http://www.homedepot.com/p/G-Floor-7-5-ft-x-17-ft-Standard-Grade-Sandstone-Garage-Floor-Cover-and-Protector-GF55RB717SN/203450702#.UqYqq5EjHTQ
