  1. Wow, im heading up that way in a few days. How much snow is on the ground? Any more snow expected for next week?
  2. Yeah not too far from Oneonta, im about 20 minutes heading east out of Oneonta on Rt. 23. If your concerned about antler restriction you need to be careful because route 23 divideds into 2 units, one unit is affected by the 3 point rule and 4F is not.
  3. I hunt both Otsego and Deleware, im on the border of both counties and have properties in both even though they are only a few minute car ride apart. Both properties lie in 2 different counties but are both within unit 4F. Typically in unit 4F chances are very high to get a DMP every year, i dont apply for DMPs but both my Uncle and Dad did and both got DMP's for 4F. In most years they both get or one will get.
  4. Deleware or Otsego counties , very good chance at getting DMP every year.
  5. Keep them in same areas i put them during bow and off seasons , my foodplots.
  6. Wife made some chicken curry over rice, amazing!!
  7. Made this month or so ago, 10 feet off ground , with 2 ton hoist and gambrell. Can raise deer with two fingers. Right outside cabin front door, easy to carry quartered meat right to the kitchen.
  8. Sounds to me like your burning out yourself and the property. Give it a week or couple week break to recharge yourself and the land. I dont get out even a fraction of the hours you have logged, but i still give the land a break for a week or two if i put in a few days of hunting. Seems to work for me., but then again doesnt take much to educate deer on 40 acres. Even if i dont educate the deer, i like to give my property a break for other deer to ease back in.
  9. Damn what the hell is that 12" black thing strapped to you? Lol. Good lord thats a long stabalizer.
  10. Sure that deer is not mixed with feline, wicked color to her fur.
  11. Damn 127hrs. on stand, think i have like 15 hrs. tops. Ouch, thats gotta reek havoc on your butt and back.
  12. For me i dont shoot button bucks at all in any season, i will typically shoot does later in the season. I love to shoot big bucks, but am by far a meat hunter first. If the momment suits me right i have no problem shooting a 2 1/2 yr. Old buck or a big ole doe.
  13. I swear the older i get the more excited i get for the gun opener, the anticipation is a killer. I guess it always elicits great memories when i was a kid and i would tag along with my dad,. When i was around 8-10 years old my dad took me on a hunt, deep snow, real cold, saw him miss a running doe thru a field at last light, he was shooting and doe had a hard time escaping through the belly deep snow. Remember like it was yesrterday. Im now 49 and him 80. My desire to hunt gets greater with each passing year. Thanks Dad, the man who started my obsession!!
  14. Its like anything else, practice makes perfect. I actually enjoy the butchering of deer just as much as the hunt. Nice to just hang with family, talk and butcher.
  15. Newer rifle, just built last year. All stainless steel with muzzlebrake, greyed wood stock, topped with a stainless leupold.
  16. I agree Biz, i have killed a ton of deer with fixed heads, thats not the issue. Bad shot with mechanical or fixed is just that a bad shot, no reason to switch.
