  1. So got the gun sighted in on Friday and was impressed with the accuracy. Started at 10 yards since my bore sighter is at camp just to get close to center. Moved to 25 yards and got zeroed there. Then moved out to 100 yards for final sighting. This gun literally shoots a 5 shot group covered by a nickel at 100 yards. Granted conditions were perfect so I wasn't seeing any movement from wind. Me and a buddy went out squirrel hunting Saturday afternoon and when we entered the woods there was a squirrel at 40 yards. I leaned on a tree and let one rip. Squirrel #1 in the books. We walked around for a bit and my buddy ended up shooting a couple more inside 30 yards. We were pretty much done and he grabbed my arm and said there's one on that stump down there. Pulled out the rangefinder and he was 103 yards away. I laid down and opened the bipod for a steady rest. Held on his head, squeezed, and watched the squirrel fall off the stump. My buddy got it on camera but didn't have the squirrel in the picture. This will be my go to small game and small varmint gun for sure.
  2. 2012 Diamond Deadeye compound bow. 26-30" adjustable draw currently set at 29", 60-70 lbs draw weight, 6 1/8" brace height, Apex 4 pin sight, Octane Hostage pro rest (with extra brushes), G5 meta peep, Limbsaver stabilizer and limb vibration dampeners, 60x custom strings. This bow has had in the range of 20,000 arrows through it since I bought it new in 2012 and it still shoots great. String is a good quality string but could be replaced in another 1000 shots or so as its showing some signs of wear. I shot this all winter during archery league (avg 287) and bought a new Obsession Evo in the spring so haven't used it much since. I was keeping it for a backup but just acquired an Obsession Sniper. No need for 3 bows so one has to go. I'll start the price at $375 or BO with everything mentioned on it included.
  3. People really need to start buying these...they are a terrific asset to have. You won't find a better guy to work with or a better price for a cell cam. Somebody buy them so I don't!
  4. Like bringing a knife to a gun fight. Why use a slug gun if you have the capability of using a rifle?
  5. I've had mixed experiences. A couple bucks That have been killed here looked superb on camera. Although once on the ground were still nice, just not quite what was expected.
  6. I'll take some pictures of the field edges I'm talking about so there is a visual aid for people to work with.
  7. Sounds like a good reason to buy a new gun...maybe a 45-70 or some other little brush monster like a .338 Lapua...haha
  8. Grow, most of the fields where the trees will be planted have fruit trees in them already. Two of the fields have apples, pears, and peaches. The other field is a rotating ag field that will have corn this year and has apples along 2 sides. I wouldn't mind adding more trees that serve a duel purpose, but I'm trying to keep my cost down and put something in that will grow rather quickly. My main goal is to provide screening and not forage as I'll have forage behind the trees/shrubs. Come to find out, my neighbors are not very trust worthy and I noticed an increased amount of "slow driving" around my fields at dusk so I'm trying give the deer a little added protection. Thanks for the input!
  9. I'm anxious to shoot it. If it weren't so windy here I'd have sighted it in today. Oh well, I have some time.
  10. Thanks for the responses guys! I bought the .17 so I can shoot further than 50 yards accurately. The spots I'll be hunting are wide open hardwoods so I'll plop my a$$ on the ground and keep my eyes open. Should be able to shoot 100 yards easily. This is what she looks like now. Topped her off with a Vortex 6-18x44 and have a Boyd's thumbhole stock on order. Also have a Caldwell bipod that isn't being used that I'll throw on.
  11. Thanks Grow! My concern with the pines is the deer devouring them at a young age. In order to get a tree that will sustain the abuse it would cost me quite a bit. I'm not too concerned about the invasiveness of the privet as they will be planted along field edges that are maintained annually. I literally have 300-400' of field edge I'd like to hide.
  12. Just picked up a Savage .17 HMR for small game hunting. I'm new to this caliber so I'm not sure what to expect. I picked up a box of Hornady 17 grain Vmax to go along with it. As far as squirrels go, should I just be taking head shots with this ammo? Or is there a better alternative for .17 ammo I should be shooting? Any advice is welcome, thanks!
  13. I have a T/C venture in .300 WSM and it shoots awesome. I'm sure the 22-250 when matched with the right ammo would be just as good. I've never been a fan of Weatherby other than the Mark V. I have a Savage model 12 22-250 and love it. Can cover groups with a dime at 100 yards. Probably about the same price as the T/C.
  14. Stopped into tractor supply to pick up dog food and they had this camo arch storage shelter set up for display. I noticed it, walked over, and they marked it down to $100 from $200. I checked it out and it seemed pretty decent so I grabbed one. I have plenty of storage but thought it might make a neat hunting blind (although it is a little big) on one of my field edges. But for $100 I can always use it at camp to cover the atv.

    DIY Euro

I really want to see that chipmunk euro...
  16. Pretty good deal, hope everything works out for you.
  17. It works, but like WNY said, get the winter rye for a 1/4 the cost and you'll be much happier. Or just buy clover since that what a majority of the bag is.
  18. I am going to try and put up some natural fence lines this year by using North Privet. They are a shrub that grows 24"-36" per year, so it should give quick cover. Has anyone planted these or have these on their property? My reason for choosing this plant is for its quick growth, hardiness (suitable for zones 4-, year around fullness due to its leaves, resilience to deer, and affordability. I am going to need around 50 plants (or more) to achieve my goal so price was a concern. I didn't want to buy something that the deer would kill and then I'd be out a few bucks. Ideally, it will provide privacy on several pieces of my property that are visible from the road. I want to put in some food plots in these areas and don't want passerby's to have visual access to them. It will take a couple years for them to get to the height I desire, but when they do, I think it will definitely provide a nice privacy screen for the deer.
  19. I don't do anything to prevent my scent from being on the cams. I typically have my 5 year old son with me and he helps hang them. The best thing you can do is get them up to 6 feet or so and angle them slightly downward so that they aren't at eye level for the deer. I think they pick up on the IR flash and white flash more than they do the scent itself. Pulling the cards every week or two is like christmas year around. You can find deals on cams pretty much year around. Just depends on how much you are willing to spend. Phade is kind of the resident "pro" when it comes to trail cams, so I am sure he will chime in at some point. But you can get good quality cams for $100-$125 or less throughout the year. Just do some research on some cams and know which companies to avoid like the plague. Good luck!
  20. I think hes 3 or 4. Nice deer for sure.
  21. Rage 2 blades performed well again. 2 deer dead within 50 yards of the shot.
  22. Hunted from 8:30-12:30 and didn't see a damn thing! Hoping something is moving in the morning!
