AR Question
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I think the problem for many models though is if they are called out specifically as an assault weapon in the listing. no modificatino you can make will change what make and model the weapon is. It sure is tough for Joe public to figue out what to do when the ones writing the law had no idea what they were writing. Sad. -
that was going to be my next question...lol. Does the cross bow offer an advantage over the compound. I think it does and some may actually need that advantage to participate in Archery.Kind of like the compound offered an advantage over the primative bows. The compound sure has more in common with a compound that it does with stick bows when you consider things like ballistics. I know many disagree but I can't see putting more boots on the gound during any season as a bad thing for the sport. there are 3 categories I think this might entice. injured or handicapped hunters, youth and females.

AR Question

we really should make sure we use the right terms to avoid further confusion in a confusing topic. the one with a pistol grip is NOT illegal. it must be registered. -
I wiouldn't have a problem with them being used during srchery. Are you against hunters being allowed to use crossbows during archery season?
-
See I don't agree with that. That is the culture the whole industry and our nation is wrapped up in. Why should however anyone else hunts or choices they make be any relfection on the effort we put forth. We can't let someone elses hunt determine how we feel about our choices. That is why all the protests against the rich this past year. be satisfied with your own choice and efforts. It is up to the other guy to be happy with theirs. If they want to practice just one day and spend 4 hours in the woods and shoot the first deet through that happens to be a button buck, and they choose to do it with a crossbow, It won't have any impact on my season or my effort. As long as the choices are legal I say have at it.

and you may want to check it against the list by the State Police. The description is to cover any weapon NOT specifically called out. If it is called out it doesn't matter what you do. My buddy has a turkey semi auto shotgun that is not specifically called out so if he were to remove the thuumbhole stock he would not have to register it. Once the dust settles I would do what ever I could to NOT have to register a weapon becasue then the ability to sell or transfer gets dicey. -
I meant choice during archery season. there are many out there (some that I know personally) that would hunt archery season if crossbows were legal. Most that argue against inclusion cite reasons that the crossbow hunters would adversely effect their bow season. I don't see it.

Dance. Those attachments you list mean nothing. -
Nothing wrong with encouraging people to do just that. But why not give them the ability to make the choice.

It is right up there with stumbling on a few nice bucks and thinking you are the great white hunter of the north. A broken clock is right twice a day.

Who are you refereing to as the "NYS QDMA Chapter" President? I have no knowledge of a NYS chapter. I know the Hudson Valley chapter was in support of the AR's down there but as far as I know the Central NY chapter is inactive. Do you have information contrary to that?

Guys. Take a deep breath. currently owned 10 round mags will NOT be illegal if only loaded with 7 rounds. Any newly purchased mag fed semi's must have a 7 round mag and as I understand it can't be capable of taking a 10 round. ie. Glock can't just make a 7 round mag for a gun they sell in PA that can take a 10 round mag.
-
that only helps current arms. The way I read the law, any new sale must be capable of ONLY using a mag that holds 7 rounds. So I don't think you will be able to buy a glock and have them slap a 7 round mag in it unless it won't accept the old 10 round mags or higher. that will required retooling fo a NY only compliant gun. How many wil do that? I don't know but I bet some won't and the ones that do will take a while

Any semi auto rifle with a detachable mag with 2 evil features is illegal. with one evil feature it is an assault weapon and must be registered. It can sold out of state, turned in or given/sold to an immediate family member. -
I don't believe it is as random as might be thought. I believe it was by design. There are 7 shot revolvers so that was the low end threshold. I believe (put on tin foil hat) it is an attempt to curtail new pistol sales in NY. I believe it was Sig that didn't sell in NY for years becasue they didn't want to retool to sell here. How many other Manufactures won't mad a special run semi auto pistol that only accepts a new 7 round mag? If the national ban goes back in force at 10 I think us NY pistol permit holders just had our possible new purchases curtailed.

As tempting as it may be to disobey them, they do have some pretty stiff penalties and ones that could effect you even owning a firearm in the future. Consider carefully,
