  1. FYI On February 4, 2009, the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 was signed into law, which raised the federal tax rate for cigarettes on April 1, 2009 from $0.39 per pack to $1.01 per pack.
  2. You guys heard him last night- He is coming after those evil AUTOMATIC AK 47's and other assault weapons....of and you know there is so much crime done with cheap handguns (tossed in at the end of his comment). He may not come for them but WILL be making it mor difficult and more expensive to get. he said it.
  3. I agree, Doc. I was a smoking casuality this past Feb. Health aspects aside it was too expensive.
  4. My grandfather used to make it. I hauled buckets for his back yard effort. It is crazy how much work it is and the real syrup is delicious! !!!!. It is a weakness of mine as is maple sugar candy. Worth every penny but i am sure you guys got cut short in NY beacuse of that quick warm up. Supply and demand so set your price. I will buy it.....just not for putting in sausage.....will be reserved for ice cream, pancakes ans waffles. I am open to syrup welfare if anyone cares tp contribute....lol
  5. Elmo, A muzzle loader is different than your shotguns or your rifles but the safety steps are easy and common sense.treated with respect you won't hav an issue. Bubba made an excellent suggestion in hooking up with someone to show you the ropes. I think you would be fine with any modern major manufacturer. just like other guns there can be plusses and minuses but at normal hunting distances these ML's will perform better than we do...lol.. Cleaning after use is different than a modern firearm but is not difficult. I would suggest to a beginner to get an inline sice the cleaning is easier to verify and easier to unload. IMO
  6. Personally I think the corn is better. It seems to stay in nicer piles...lol
  7. That is true. Not every processor is participating. I am sure the state looks at the processors set up and there must be some sort of inspection of the facilities. they have special documentation to do marking each package of meat also.
  8. I know soup kitchens ans homeless shelters do take advantage of it.
  9. From the DEC web site Venison Donation Program Venison Donation You've heard the story, more deer every year, fewer hunters, more crop damage, more car-deer collisions . . . and even more needy. Yes, more needy. Now there is a means for YOU, the sportsman to contribute to those in need within your local area. By filling your deer permits you can not only help reduce the State's growing deer population, but you can feed less fortunate families. Several groups have established programs that promote the donation of venison to feed the hungry. More information about each program can be found at Venison Donation Coalition and Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (See Links Leaving DEC's Website). All the programs need from you is your generosity and cooperation. Those in need in your community will be very thankful. You may also help by donating cash. Recent legislation authorized a voluntary contribution process and also established a separate fund for these monies to pay for the costs of processing donated venison.
  10. THis link would help people find processors by county as well. http://www.venisondo...97b7a72b9dc8a9b
  11. I have no idea but wanna bet NY subsidises the program...lol
  12. My mother just offered me an electric slicer she hasn't used in years. I bet that would do the trick. Thanks
  13. Worse than alone is being with someone that won't listen or is too gun ho. Get ahead and flip that one leaf over and it can add hours...lol.
  14. One we used in Syracuse and one in Rochester was free of charge if you donated. We never got the keep the backstraps though. I have never heard of a charge to donate.
  15. Virgil, I hae never done jerky but I have a nice smoker. was thinking about a couple bathes this year (assuming I get a few deer) . how thick do you cut to start 1/8"?
  16. I have seen 65-90, De-boned and freezer wrapped. (not vacuum sealing). If you have a guy at $50 and he does a good job I would keep his number. That is the biggest reason we went back to cutting our own.
  17. I like them even better when I see them fall within site
  18. get the rake out...the exercise will do you good...lol
  19. Might have to try that. I still have 3 gallons of Hard cider from 2010 . I wa'nted to try a maple flavored breakfast sausage but the cost of real NY syrup is through the roof.
  20. The necessity for growing big racks is age. BUT, with an above average diet the higher end of their genetic potential could be realized. If that buck had a better diet (either from plots of from living in AG land) the upside of the horns would probably be higher.
  21. Grow, I am with you on the Cube steaks. the first tow deer I get this year are being ground for snack sticks and more Italian sausage. I don't link sausage. I like patties and use more ground that anything. Use it in lasagna, chili and goulash. Jerky---Do you dehydrate or use a smoker?
  22. There are still tons that do. swing by a reservation store and check out the lines. One south of Syracuse has a drive through window and there is a line there from the time it opens until it closes. They tax the ammo any more the Native Americans will be making ammo too. Not there is an irony for you. Use buying ammo from them...lol
