  1. I will be planting this year...I have as mentioned before been having a serious summer weed problem...I also have an are of standing water..the Balansa Clover seems to be what I will be able to use in combating these issues..here a link. http://www.grasslandoregon.com/assets/fixation_brochure_v1.15.pdf
  2. I went to Tractor Supply for dog food yesterday...went to the back to read some liquid fertalizer bottles and see a fully camo clad guy look around and pick up the very last mineral salt block on a pallet. Nearly every regular salt block and all the minerals were gone..This made me curious, so I strolled down the feed isle. Every bag of mineral salt was gone and nearly every small horse/goat one was gone as well....OMG..all the farm animals in the area must have been going through some sort of deficiency....lol BTW...Looks like I may switch to liquid fertilizer this year...They have micro nutrients in them as well...something we tend to forget about.
  3. Turkey kielbasa, potato, boiled in home made sauerkraut and green beans.
  4. I do that...my one attempt at hunting film...hand held ...once was enough...lol .....but fans work! https://youtu.be/yXQUwL_K7vU
  5. I love corn beef hash,Rubens...Aaahhhh my once a year Irish treat...I make corned beef and cabbage dinner for Mr B...but make my self a Ruben for dinner. Then hash for a Saturday morning breakfast from the left over potatoes and the CB from the boiled dinner.
  6. Makes ya wonder....where were all those boys hiding this past season?
  7. Mr B just bought a new pair.. and mine are 15yrs old...you can find them lots of places, prices, styles and colors.... http://www.thewarmingstore.com/stabilicers-walk-orange.html
  8. This plot had activity all fall but now is when I'm getting huge amounts of cam action. That said I always plant a variety of plots next to each other and I planted beans and clover in the turnips.
  9. Venison chops in garlic,broccoli,cheddar noodles,tossed salad
  10. They came right back and fed in the turnips all night...that little spike gave me another picture almost exactly the same as the first one I lost...There were so many turnips left in that plot I was afraid they may go to waste...now they are all nearly gone...though some were so big from the Hercules brand it literally took them weeks to finish a single bulb and there were a lot of them...funny when it got so warm and the bulbs softened ,they abandoned the partially eaten ones for the firm whole ones...now that they refroze...they have gone in and finished them up... 144 pics from yesterday at 1pm until this morning at 11am on just that cam...they are hungry...
  11. You were right the first time , everyone forgets Shep : Larry, Curly, Moe, and Shep....I think they'd understand and forgive you...lol
  12. Jack wax!...yep I remember eating that as a kid...good memories...good eats....
  13. 344 pics and 189 on another camera in less than 2days....They are hitting the turnips but mainly the clover plots...It was hard to tell what but dark hocks body and face...along with a few leg lift "junk" cleaning in front of the cams showed a few big buck have made it for next and several small guys including a bunch of buttons. These all came in in groups separate from the doe and fawn. I'm a tad surprised by this. I thought bucks didn't go into a regular group until closer to the spring/summer I'm assuming the button bucks together were all orphaned fawns that grouped up. I also noticed many more button bucks compared to doe fawn in these pics which is the second year I've mentioned an increase in male to female fawns. Mother nature seems to be putting in a plan of her own. No pics I've been formatting cards..Oh wait I did save one day time...This is a button that I thought I down loaded from a cam near that barn in the turnips..it didn't make it apparently but this one did. You can see me coming across the road to check cams yesterday and he's watching me. The time and date stamp are wrong ...it was around 1pm. He's a loner, that beds not far from the clover and turnip plots alone. He mainly stays in the poplar timber I cut down last year in hopes to get grouse interested again with new sprouts...made great bedding.
  14. Guys is right...They should have taken estrogen during menopause....not that it would have made much of a difference...lol
  15. The best chicken cordon blue I have ever made, our acorn squash, green beans , spinach and boiled small red potato
  16. lol ..a kid in a candy store situation... just don't end up like Violet Beauregard .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4_cf_fZDc0
  17. How true, but the thread has made me curious....some of these sound more like fizzy Koolaid with a kick...lol
  18. Wow 100 pages on beer...just can't see it...no matter how much they flavor it...I take that back, if it's 100 degrees and I'm seriously thirsty...
  19. I do not know your area, so if it's bagged lime you are looking for and you have the $ go with a pallet buy and deal with them. Tractor supply will sell pallets at a cheaper price but that said, if you are just doing this as an initial attraction thing. I would put down what you can to get a start on the plot and then watch for their lime sales...and they usually have several from spring to fall. Usually $1 off a bag or buy 2 get third free...then see what you can get a pallet for. I personally lime each year...I started out years ago using acid tolerant plants and there are many. Each year I build the PH in the plots. I can now plant Alfalfa and grains. It doesn't take long if done right. Lime doesn't last forever anyways. If you are planting in woodland areas even a perfect PH needs to be maintained with some lime each year. Read through some of the posts here about just mowing paths in such areas as your 20 acre fields you'd be surprised what you might find the critters are doing. Also read up on natural browse and see what is growing in your area...the right natural browse may keep your deer better than a plot or two will during hunting . Then consider winter feed plots...The golden rod could be your best buck bedding with a more open woods with some hinge cutting and shrubby growth a great staging area on the edge of that 20 acre feed/bedding. I don't know how your land is configured so these are all assumptions . Then you have those Hemlocks and a trout stream. Wow my mind is busy envisioning your place. I don't know how long you've had it but sometimes watching what deer are doing for a time way before making changes can avoid some errors, that is in changing their usage completely.. Ff your young you have plenty of time. Enjoy the journey, most journeys are better enjoyed at a slower pace https://www.whitetailhabitatsolutions.com/blog/recognize-and-hunt-a-deer-staging-area
  20. I don't drink whiskey much but I do like the honey whiskies. I went to buy some CC during the holidays and found it's in plastic bottles now...Sorry I won't buy liquor in plastic bottles. Unfortunately it is now starting to limit my options. I like wild turkey
  21. Not asking anyone to...just pointing some considerations out. For those that hit the timber just a few times a year to be very aware, not everything is as it always looks, choose wisely when climbing or setting stands.
  22. They didn't test it against any other broad head but the penetration on the second shot didn't seem to be very impressive to me....Maybe the targets better than what I'm use to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qYSbLIbhT4
  23. site...For you guys just starting out...for you that are looking for something new and for those that just like gathering knowledge...I found this to be one of the better ones around to read...hope it helps some and encourages others to explore options... https://www.walnutcreekseeds.com/Single-Species.html
  24. That's good and bad....We have a combo as well..I have many V Splits I'm hinging and dropping. Look for acid tolerant clovers until you find out just how much lime you will need...Without a decent ph your throwing good money away...because the plants can't meet their own nutrient needs, let alone those of your deer. Congrats on what sounds like a great place, enjoy project you start.
