Blue Finn Boat 1980 "ish"
growalot replied to LET EM GROW's topic in Non Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
First off get a good estimate on what the motors are worth alone...boat motors are so expensive and with the two different horse powers you have there ...long/short shafts? your money is in them first...I would think...maybe wrong..then figure out what the actual boat may be worth... http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/1989/EVINRUDE/Outboard-Motors -

Yes often, and they have been great to work with...when the post office had the flat rate boxes...you wouldn't believe how much seed they would stuff into a box for me...before the price hikes I had 25 # 's shipped for less than 7.00..I always call in orders.. I really like their clover options....and the descriptions are great They are usually where I buy my trictical from. Also until recently where I got my brassicas as well, good variety there....though there are certain add on costs to work around when ordering get there catalog to look through it..Ask when you call if they have any deals to be had...but have a list ready when you call them with questions. -

They will not ship seed to my county and I would have to pay the retail markup. Prices are a tad high...50#'s of cow peas 198.80! Alfalfa high...Aslike 240.00 compared with 159.00 from Welter a 50# bag that's before shipping and Welter will cover part of shipping costs, discounts on seed through Febuary and 15% off Alfalfas 1/2 the cost of shipping. Plus I think is tax free. -
Yes when I have encounters like turning at the mail box late morning to see the Monster 6pt standing at the end of the drive,or stepping out to cross the street and looking over the hill crest to see a 10 pt standing in the road watching me. Three or more of these and I will not get a decent deer for the year. Also I know I'll get a deer, buck or doe when after sitting a while quietly.. I swear I hear someone yell "Chris!" in my ear...with in minutes a deer comes into view...I often thinks it's my Mom or Gramps watching over me..

We did end up getting several inches of very heavy wet snow...and not even the state trucks wer e out plowing until school let out...Oh ya the roads were so much fun yesterday...NOT!I'm about to head out to clean the drive a bit to keep the icing down when the real cold returns...going to 40 today...34 now... I love this because the wet/melt will help with the spring planting...I hope to not have any snow pack into late May June this year...we will see what February / March brings...Those have become my scary months...

Here is another thing for those of you that like soybeans...I do not use RR so this isn't an issue...I planted iron clay peas instead of soybeans last year..I mixed them with Sunn Hemp ..picture below. anyway Hancock has them on sale..now the 50# is cheap but no free shipping...for me shipping would cost 40.00. This brings cost to 69.99. So if I order 2 25 # bags at 32.99 each the cost for 50# is 65.98...and no shipping cost...and not taxes as I recall. they did very well recovering from grazing and the deer hit them hard right to frost...they will not produce seed here unless you plant very early after last frost date. https://hancockseed.com/iron-clay-cow-peas-25-lb-bag-699.html -
start checking out the local ag stores selling things like wht tail institute.....if not on sale...look at the date on bags and go to managers and say hey, this seed is last years which makes it 2 years old what price will you give me? Doesn't hurt to try..also do not forget to go to the Walmart clearance isles...I strolled down it one year and found a bag of I think buck oats for a stupid low price.....Would never have thought to look there for last years seed.

Hahaha...2 of those sweet spot pics are of my plots the long green trail plot and the grassier looking curved one on the bottom..I sent those into them with a thank you several years ago... I have to clarify something...those pictures were of their Beef bank seed with my own additions of chicory...this is why...look at the prices and what is in their pasture seed mix...then what is in their sweet spot..and compare pricing....to pounds..I loved the seeds and the draw but look closely for the true savings...page 6 in the link http://welterseed.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Retail-Price-List-2017.pdf -
Bulk (apple) tree discounts
growalot replied to stubborn1VT's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Stubborn , did you sign up for Cummings E-news letter?...If not they had a huge cancellation on a cider tree order...So being "fairly" local perhaps a call and deal on some of those trees can be made. That is better than their regular bulk rates especially if you think they would be close enough for a hands on pick up.....Looks like they have some good stone friut trees as well this year...and a great variety on root stock...learn to graft some of your own? -

WTH..tine, not time -
Larry funny how some people seem to want what you have until they can. ZEUS, That is exactly what I like about that show, normal guys enjoying taking what an average guy takes...normal guys showing it takes days or weeks and shite happens with missed or not the best hits always. Which is what many on here complain about with these shows, including me..Yes editing is "different", the music, didn't notice for I Automatically turn the volume way down before watching any of these shows.

They did that for me on a tall time order a few years ago... -
Do you plan on holding over or planting in spring? Spring for me ,even though it's a fall blend...farmer behind me said the deer just hammered his spring/ summer ....oat /clover planting.

Buckmaster...They didn't "get me"...for your tractor supply isn't mine...if it were, I wouldn't have found any seed. Even if I traveled to another Tractor supply and got your deal.....the gas driving there would have eaten it up...So yes I got a deal and no one got me. To that if a person looked at Amazon ,they want 45.50 a bag...So anyway I look at it,I got a deal..

Well he could have come in and bought up land and then turned it into housing ,businesses ...ect...I guess these ticked off guys should be counting their blessings...there's no coming back from that. As it stands...he could loose his money, his desire or ability to hunt and fade away ...no harm done
-
I stopped into my local Tractor Supply and found the following on sale for...$8.99 a bag...picked up two..So I got 80# for $18.00...last years seed but I'm thinking for a quick green up on a couple of failed woodland plots I will have this in the spring...I can put it down very yearly and if the turkey do what they've done in the past...I'm not out a whole lot. Maybe the new logging trail plot? Depends on whether TFS gets their bagged lime out early...that will need a lot of lime...I left 2 bags for someone else...no need to be greedy. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/plotspike-forage-feast-40-lb

Started the big project yesterday...
growalot replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I do this by my self so two ppl should make short work of it...I worked on the upper fence area several hours yesterday. There was a lot of fresh droppings around the two big Ash I cut the other day. I have decided to only clean the woods floor were I wanted deer to travel. I want them traveling near the blinds and stands and not near property lines. The fences steer them as well..deer will not jump what they can not see over, remember that..but they will walk a fence to find an opening..once found they will use them regularly and as escape routes. I also incorporate native brush in the fences..We have a lot of honey suckle and dog wood bushes. With this melt we had and time on my hands, I could clearly see where I went wrong in some areas last year. I know why some travel patterns changed around our place.. New Hunters in 2 areas and they were an everyday presence. I also realize this is going to be a continued future issue. This will permanently change patterns. After next year they will have the new pattern down so I can adjust to it and attempt to get certain areas on us as part of the new routes. The other thing was not really looking closer at the woods floor obstruction...I underestimated just how bad the tangle was and in areas I rarely frequent. They travel and bed in these areas. Last year's high winds took down so much they just filled in, making movement nearly impossible. So there I sat waiting for the usual movement which just wasn't going to happen. These areas will be cleaned by spring. My local turkey should love this..I do not remove everything, I need rot to produce food for the soil and the birds. Rotting ground litter is perfect for bugging, and maintaining moisture. Speaking of Turkey...removing the standing dead timber will open the canopy for remaining live trees. Allowing branch development and spread. This allows for roosting trees to develop. Turkey need flatter spreading branches to roost on. They tend to roost at a specific height. Trees too close, keep lower branches continuously dying. Too many and they won't have good roost trees. If you've ever watched a turkey tumbling down through a tree after landing on a dead limb not once but a few times, you'd understand why they'd move roosting areas. -
I like you tube as well, my comparison was to other " production" shows. As far as production ones I prefer Growing Deer TV over all others. As far as the leasing..I can't fault a guy who has the money to do it, nor the land owners profiting from it. Let's be honest here..with taxes being as high as they are in most places, regular Joe Shmoe hunter either doesn't have the $$, or thinks it's not worth paying to just cover taxes. I personally can't tell you how many guys not knowing who they were talking to said to my face. " Posted my arse, who do they think they are moving out here,I been hunting those lands for years." My reply usually had them walking away from the conversation quickly. " I think I'm the one paying the mortgage and taxes and hunting the place, something you should have thought about doing years ago" Farmers don't own locals anything, unless they were willing to pay as well as anyone else.
