Spoken for by son ...and daughter quit her job so now shes back in the woods and getting domestic again started canning. I'm trying to get her to can up some venison with that Pressure cooker I bought her.. ...will be down this week to visit friends...I have plans to fill it up myself ...The doe and twins are right back on their regular scheduled...may go out tonight..if wind stays good...Dr. appt. , blood work tomorrow morning...take River for a few hours and then out to the stands.

They are on the cams at day and night...though not the buck. I have the new frig ,but would not want to have to leave a deer if a bad shot occurred. Friday it looking great as well as Thursday afternoon

Wildcat could you direct me to where you found what you state?... It's always been my understanding you can't have a loaded weapon on the road ...but in the woods? I believe it's you can't shoot before or after...I also was under the impression you can not trail with a loaded weapon nor shoot after dark....Which is why I have been in the woods at midnight gutting deer with just a head lamp and knife...As WNY said coyote hunting and I believe maybe racoon all over lap. But tracking a deer and shooting it after dark is still a no, no as I recall. Walking to or from a stand is not hunting.

I'm pretty confident it will...They brought up the shooting last year here and I mentioned the one near me years back, besides she was on the ambulance calls...So They don't want to be near other hunters any more than I. We'll tend to be nervous about where we go..calls will be made I am sure....I did warn him about the nut job in gun season that sits on both our back borders, full leaf gilly suit. I catch him running up the hill on the lease property every single year...One of these years he'll look for me in my tree stand and I'll have come in to the blind across and 200 ft from my line...he sits in a dead fall around there and I can only see him when he moves...even with bino's...I never know when he'll be there...I refuse not to hunt my land because of an AH...What kind of mental midget hunts during gun season right on other hunters lines in a Gilly suit... in a town where not one or two but a few have been shot and 2 killed over the years.. and who that knows them allows it!

Happy Birthday! May it be great and your year be even better...

what kinda chair do you use
growalot replied to vizslas's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
Great Idea...this year I will be using my Caldwell field pod in the ground blinds and the one pop up on the tower. Everyplace else I have shooting rails ...some of those are made from PVC pipe and work great... my chairs range from a garden scooter that swivels and has a big tractor seat to big comfy padded office chairs with arms. In the big framed blinds I use the window sills I covered in carpet or rubber roofing -
LOL I knew you weren't ACTUALLY considering that other buck WNYBH... Good luck BTW that plow pic. would never been seen had a comment about a pretty tame picture wasn't made, just saying. I have thought back on some of mine.....no comments made and wayless tame than that dbl doe pic. There is bad taste...plow pic and then there is hunting reality...deer die, wounds are made, blood pours and bodies are gutted... give me a freaking break.. All PC about that.... when rather nasty pics and comments are posted of obese woman in thongs are put up and laughed about WTF....

Do You Support Crossbow Full Inclusion into the NY Archery Season?

Because sometimes your body doesn't always do what your mind wants it to.....I have a great vertical bow but as I age the old body isn't as good as the bow and that should not keep me out of the woods doing what I enjoy doing...even if I have to limit that time. -
It is...though I hold reservations until hunting season..only because as we talked out came him speaking of all my stands...mind you all my stands are NOT visible from the property line....This I was trying to draw out., and did. It's all how you approach it...He now knows I run cams every where. That all my trails are clear and I do not use flash lights and I use hunter orange...That makes a difference for .....decoying he has purchased a lot of land over the years since we first met at his neighbors party. I actually know them...the house is not being used any more. This connects to his place on the next road over. Which opens my hunting up as far as the 500' rule . I also found out his neighbor has been buying up around there place as well. This now has 4 major people on the hill buying up lands around them ...cutting the density down ..all good news. Think this will work out though met his wife (new) pretty nice..left feeling good.

Neighbors house...had a great talk..discussed signs..learned a bit...They told me they were glad I bordered them...discussed the fact I'll be leaf blowing, told them not to worry about their atv activity on their place. Got and gave cell numbers...looks good so far...

First you tell me why it's imperative for you to get them eliminated...Other than some people like more expensive toys than other... Now I find you mentioning only the draw weights and speed in your reply, not the limb nor length requirements interesting, perhaps telling. If they are in archery season then let them produce similar kinetic energy as a bow. Which BTW is still impossible they are already far superior in that....let's keep them at least somewhat on an even playing field and yes length and limb configuration makes a difference. http://www.bowhuntingmag.com/bow-reviews/crossbows-vs-compounds-comparing-apples-to-apples/ -

I get it...just saying they want dead doe...Don't try restricting what hunters shoot be it animal or weapon,as far as xbows are concerned...They need to get their own back bone and start stepping on toes...Though, again they need to do it right...leave the restrictions and MANDATORY BOW COURSE PS ...you did see the taunting emoji right? -

Here's my final word..Hey NYS DEC I'm sitting here in 8N ...you know, where you want all those doe dead. Well I could have filled a tag opening day...But I had to hold at full draw so long having gotten busted by the does BB that my arm gave out...tsk,tsk,tsk ,tsk had I been using my cross bow...one dead doe....hhhmmmm -
I have this stand and it's in 2 huge trees a beech and a yellow wood... I'm talking ft diameter. To be honest I don't know how I built it...it's 15ft to the deck and is 6 ft between the trees and 2ft wide...I had to carry and attach two 2x8x 12 ft pieces of PT up a ladder by myself. it's been there since we bought the place...I made a semi enclosed blind...well the wind finally got it and the nails and carrage bolts sheared. I had put 2 under braces on both trees and a ratchet strap on one...so she stayed up... I went down today and added a truckers cargo tie down strap to the other tree and then thoroughly nailed the side rails back in and re nailed under bracing...phew thats a lot of work..but she's now good for the season...just need to put up my orange decoy the night before opener...I don't mind sharing... that made a bit of noise in the woods today...letting people know I'm out and aboutIt sits right next toa stream and has mature oaks on 3 sides Looking at this I believe next year I put in a hook bolt and then bolt a length of chain to the side rails after running it under them and latch the chain links over the hooks

HERE COMES THE GUN LAWS
growalot replied to ryan's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
They could make it illegal to own a gun , think of a gun, make finger guns or use the word gun...and it won't stop the guy intent on killing people...Tim McVeigh didn't' use a gun. The uni bomber didn't use a gun..how about all the nut job religious cults that poisoned people dead is dead...because one is scarier than the other doesn't make a difference...the 9/11 terrorist didn't use guns to kill and all they had to do was threaten the passengers with bombs to take over whether they had guns or not. Here's an idea...try legislating against angry white men and religious nut jobs...I'd mention the other group but I don't want to be called racistslol ...You'd get the same outcome....There will always be someone and something to take their place. -
I use to mow,but that messes with the JD...actually got a fire once...I then raked...I have 2 miles of trails..I did the whole thing one year...I couldn't move for half a week..lol Never mind the number of hours I spent buggering up the place with presence ,scent and noise...so when Mr B bought the back pack blower I went to that.. chain saws are the norm here as well as 4 wheelers and weed whackers...Now I just take a fairly quick walk around the place...timed right...the wind does the rest of season...Timing is everything...just before a good rain or even during a light one. Also where you blow them...to main wind direction side...Here it's the east side I want the leafs on or the south side.

I stand by that...If it is due to amount of ease that bothers a person ..Well then put them in 2 weeks first of Oct., when mostly doe are taken anyhow...Then leave vertical only for the prime last weeks during prime time...Also one could say hey by inclusion your helping out on public land...some of those gun toting small game hunters just may take up deer with cross bow...eliminating all that moving around they tend to do AND eliminating all that gun noise you dislike ...The point is anyone can find the good and bad in any change...putting in some real compromise while changing is better than fighting and being annoyed amongst our selves. When compound were brought in there were limitations put on them...no lighted sights, lasers are the 2 I recall...there should be no difference in the cross bow leave the limitations the have now... -
I got 4 new buck on cam that were not there this summer ...I got a big boy last night, Unfortunately bad shot and cam is one of the ones with wonky dates/times,I can't fix. Though either night or early morning....Glad I wasn't walking /crunching around in the dark out there. Until leaf litter is thicker, trees nearly bare and I can clean the trails I will limit where I hunt and times I hunt. This was a substantial deer. now to get some patterns going...I'll let the neighbors crunch around on their places a few weeks...hoping they fill their tags.I HONESTLY wish them early success...Then I can go enjoy some hunting

Grant you that and that is where the original post went very wrong IMO: See like with most things...They couldn't just be happy getting inclusion, they need to make the inclusion far superior than what is already there. I can not look at that sentence with out saying pure greed...bad enough they don't have to take the bow hunters course...If this is what they are going for, then perhaps things need to stay as they are after all.... -

Not everyone has that skill...Are you then saying that sighted compounds should have their own record book too?...Because unless you have shot instinctive verses sighted bow there is a huge difference... Perhaps there should be all separate books. This for those like myself that shoot open site guns and instinctive bow, compound not traditional, and those that shoot scoped guns and sighted bows...lets put in range categories as well. Have record books for those that shoot within 100yrds and past a 100 in gun...break it down to with in15 yards or over 15 for bow...where would you like that dividing line to end? -

I do not get this either...are you saying record book animals shot in gun are lesser trophies than a bow record.? I see it this way a good shot is a good shot no matter what the weapon...the proximity to the hunter is chance...both my bigger gun bucks were closer to me than my bigger bow ones...shovel nose was a mere 10 ft in shot gun and the 3 beamed 9 was 50 ft if that...the swamp buck was 35 yrds and another big 8 was 28yrds in bow...the 2 monster the neighbors dragged of were 17yrd bow and 20 gun. even that didn't make a difference with weapon So why would it need it's own book? -

Core I am having a difficult time understanding your logic. Take no offense but Cross bows are in the best time of buck hunting...the last two weeks in bow and going into gun season...Now you may say who would use it in gun and that makes no difference. Though it does because at the first signs of gun pressure those buck follow doe to safer zones. Gun hunters, including some bow are thinking aahh gun more reach better odds... Though now with having the lower safety zones for archery, it could actually give them better opportunities with 150' for compound and only 250' for cross bow. There are some nice buck taken early season but mainly doe and notice on the forum...Guys are not burning vacation and family time during early season bow...Why would gun hunters be angry?...They could pick up a cross bow early season with no problems. If anything in early bow not prime time is what they should want and have now. I have to say depending on what happens during bow season...I will be sitting in a stand dressed in orange down in the swamp with my cross bow opening day of gun...it's the legal weapon I can use down there. Also less chance of running off the property due to blood loss not shock. If it is public land pressure...I'm pretty sure guys won't be burning time much more in early season bow with a cross bow than now. Maybe the first couple of years until they realize they aren't seeing all the buck they thought were running past archers before they could be out there. Rarely does ones imagination match reality. -
Just opener so far for me... It was a great opener...turkey flying off roost, squirrel, way too many chipmunks and doe and twins in the morning afternoon fox chasing and catching a cat,an exciting encounter with a doe and twins tired back but no shot and busted. jays everywhere and chickadees. and a red squirrel on my shoulder... neither knew until I turned my head. at that point I was wishing I had a face mask on... we both jumped and he ran down my arm and around to the trunk of the tree....thank heavens he was so fast I almost didn't have time to be too startled...lol
