  1. It was my belief that the DEC has the authority to have the mans guns seized and his hunting revoked...and what of the assisted living owner that please...had to know he was illegally shooting wild life from his window and did nothing about it then lied!!...and to tell you the truth...who dropped the ball with printing this.... out of how many other stories..... with those results?...what kind of message did they think they would be sending?...Hey break state and federal laws and get a kick to your wallet and less than a slap on the wrist...So he's an elder man...don't put him in jail...but for Gods sake don't' give him back his guns and allow him to keep his hunting license ...The woman that allowed this to go on...then lied is now the person that hold the keys that stand between him and his guns?...I swear it's a Three Stooges skit....aaauuuggh
  2. Couldn't ask for better results than that! Congrats and good luck
  3. I know..wasn't yelling at you ....I'm just dumb struck at what goes on in Reg 8.....makes me wonder if at least one of the ECO wasn't the one that told me "What do you want me to do? ...they'll just lie anyways"....when they were called out by 911 when the guys next door nearly shot me out of my stand 20min BEFORE the gun opener a few years ago Here it is for those that don't get it.... On Patrol Real stories from Conservation Officers and Forest Rangers in the field By ECO Lt. Tom Caifa and Forest Ranger Lt. John Solan Window Poaching-Steuben County Recently, a resident from Bath contacted ECOs Tom Flaitz and Dave Hulett to report that an eagle had been shot; he had a picture on his cell phone of the injured bird. The officers went to the accused man's residence, which was an adult, assisted-living home. The facility operator, a 71-year-old female, stated she shot the eagle, but both officers suspected she was trying to protect the real suspect. Finally the woman admitted that one of her residents, an 87-year-old retired dairy farmer, shot the eagle from his second-story bedroom window. The ECOs found a scoped rifle and box of ammunition next to the window in his room where apparently he would sit and shoot at wildlife that ventured onto the property. The firearm and the eagle carcass were seized, and the man was ticketed for illegally taking a protected bird, for which he paid a heavy fine. Additionally, the man's other firearms were locked in the facility owner's gun safe, available only for legitimate hunting activities.
  4. Really Burt...they gave back the guns under loc and key for future Hunts!!!...he still has a license?!! OMG and he'd been routinely shot wild life that strolled into his view lets see if someone our age or GFB younger did that we'd be locked up...federal offense But yes this issue was pretty good...beautiful pics good info
  5. Anyone read the conservationist? The patrol part of it...about the 87 yr old man that shot and killed a eagle from his assisted living home bedroom window? And how the DEC and courts handled it?
  6. to be honest I just skimmed this so may be off point ...Didn't notice mention of surrounding properties...knowing this... is some times half the battle..IE...I have zip deer on a couple of cams that had many earlier this year ..doe fawn young buck..I'd posted a few...talked to neighbor...even though I have 13 plots...they have none...my acorns are few ...they're reds are dropping like mad and have several buck on cam Of all the buck I've shot...none were ever captured on the cams...and I have several cams out....My land holds many many doe but no resident buck...which is fine for they filter in about the second week of bow...You have to be out there hunting to see the deer you want to shoot...didn't notice a # given for times in the field...or #'s on stand/blind locations....a smart buck will pattern a well used stand....our you seeing any late deer scrapes or old ones scouting the spring...for we also rarely get rubs and big scrapes until well into gun season...just what happens...even though I have them fighting in the dark under stands during bow season. If you regularly leave to shoot buck else where....do you know whats happening on your place when your gone?...maybe your locals do
  7. I pulled card to see if the new card was working ok...got first visitors around the water trough....
  8. Ya... Mr. B heard me yelling while in the shower and calls out...I tell him whats going on and he yells shoot it why didn't you shoot it?? Really...lol...ya I'm always packing a rifle at 4:30 a.m. while packing your lunch in the Kitchen...what was I thinking?
  9. I've had luck with turkey...mouse squealer and mimicking a chipmunk...which is pretty easy...seeing they love busting me on stand all fall ...I have used a yote call late season
  10. Just came back in from shaking her treat jar and calling....she came running from the trees in the hedge row....Phewww...Called Mr. B and made his day...mine too...she looked a bit too happy to see me....Yote season opens tomorrow ...looks like I'm going to pull out the 243....if it's running my property it all looks like yote!...this is truly getting to be a bore
  11. rear legs....we also slice the neck just under the jaw and pull out and cut off all remaining esophagus to deter any bacteria growth...so blood drains out of that....ya... I know mounts...but we don't ...It would have to be one monster of a deer for me to spend the money....pics are just fine
  12. and then if you are like we were the chickens get closed up in there secure house at night when chicken eating critters are out...we also use to have a guard goose Now that ours are down in the woods....they are in a 8x8ft hard wire run...that has a hard wire floor for "diggers"
  13. Thanks NYH....it just brought up the "You have to go get your pistol permit "/ "I want you carrying the rifle when your out"..... lecture It explains why when I was walking our daughters dog at 4:30 this morning the goats really startled at us walking by...they normally don't have a problem when I'm pup sitting and walk the dog by in the mornings...it's the only time I carry a flash light
  14. It is interesting and I have heard of it.... did research on it when I was researching hunting with Fox terriers I use to raise years ago....I understand when you said you didn't plan on doing it.... just thought I'd post what I found in reference to NYS
  15. Ya ...for me it was...sorry
  16. I found this on a search.....
  17. Good reminder....also "widow makers"...falling limbs got that name for a reason
  18. I'd call the DEC and find out ...you may need to get a "special" permit to do so
  19. I'm not sure yet whether to be scared or seriously ticked...but I let our Shepard out this a.m. and started fixing Mr. B's lunch....next thing I know I hear Angels distress WOO...WOO...turned on the porch light as I opened the door to find either a big yote or a domestic dog retreating down the steps from an attack!...What the hell...now we can't find our cat...it ran to the farmers field turned and ran past the kennel with me yelling...but never stopped long enough for a good look....long skinny...tan backside and big tail...this got the boys awake and wildly barking...fun morning...wish us luck finding our cat alive
  20. I thought I posted this some where but can't find it so sorry if repeat...but....Mr. B. came home Wed. night...it had been raining all day and said I just bust a flock of 10 Toms and Jakes sneaking out of your front garden crossing the road to the pasture....He said they turned back and ran for the woods toward the house...Yee Haa....This flock I haven't seen...but the sorghum across the street is ripening up nicely....I think they must have been eating the dropping Kiwis and Aronia berries in the garden...He said one Tom looked really big...but he never saw the beard as they ran away
  21. All good points though....also with the sunken ones...frogs ...which happen to be a good barometer for the health of a wood lot ....breed and raise hundreds of tadpoles....these I can't use solar water pumps in those...but the tad poles seem to feed on any larva
