  1. I've never heard of soaking it in water until now. We also process our own. I'll let the deer hang for a couple days (weather permitting), then we will process it into steaks, grind, etc, vacuum seal it, then freeze it. Never had any meat go bad. I'm not saying soaking it in water is wrong, everyone has different ways of doing things, I've just never heard of it. We do soak the liver in buttermilk to draw the blood out before cooking however.
  2. I know what you're talking about but I'm not sure if its legal or not. With mine, my magazine is fixed and cannot be removed no matter what. I have a special rear take down pin on the receiver that sticks out about 1/4" so you can easily pull it out and load the gun through the top of the magazine. I'm not sure what you're talking about is legal because i dont think the magazine is supposed to come out at all legally. Im definitely not an expert on this and built mine the way i did just to play it safe. I'd love to be able to remove my magazine, but with all these confusing laws, its not worth it to me.
  3. I got a lower build kit online from Palmetto State Armory. The build kit includes the stock, buffer tube, grip, and the lower parts kit (including the fire control group). The one i got was like $130. PSA runs good deals on different parts a couple times a week. I was very satisfied with my purchase, the only thing i didn't like was that they took a little while to ship it.
  4. I'm in southern herkimer county. We got a good amount of snow but not too much. The only thing that sucks right now is the wind. As of deer activity we've already been seeing a lot of does herding up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. 6:19 here in 6s Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Haven't seen a thing besides some of the biggest gray squirrels I've ever seen. My dad saw 8 does however. Some guy walked up on me at 9 from the adjacent property. Kind of disappointing but then again opening day has never been a great day for me. Also congrats ApexER hell of a buck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. There's another similar active thread on here right now but tomorrow I'll be using my 12 gauge 870 with 2/3" federal slugs. If I get something with that then I'll use my rem ultimate ml shooting 200 grains of pyrodex pellets and a 250 grain Hornady sabot for the rest of the season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I have a 783 in 7mm mag that I got about 6 months ago. I have yet to shoot it, but it seems like a nicely built budget rifle. I've heard good things about them too. Sat last night from 2 - dark. Only thing I saw were three nice turkeys. Think I'm going to put the bow away for the season and get ready for gun opener. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I'm currently shooting 200 grains of pyrodex pellets out of my ML, but I bought a bottle of bh209 a while back and plan on sighting my gun in with that next year. My gun shoots great with the pyrodex but man is it dirty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Something that helps me out tremendously are the online tax maps. I'm not sure about other counties, but for Herkimer county you can see online a satellite map of the whole county broken up into everyones properties. You can click on a property and see who owns it, how many acres they own, etc... Its like an enhanced version of google maps. I've hunted the same property my whole life so i know the area pretty well, its just cool to look at and can help.
  11. Remington 870 super mag with 2/3" federal slugs. If I get a buck, then I will use my Remington ultimate ML for the rest of the season in search of a doe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. The runnings in Rome is a great store. Curious what their price on 22 mag is. CCI maxi mags at the bass pro in Utica are about $14 for 50. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I know the roads in that area pretty well, we ride wheelers up there a lot. Hopefully you can connect on a nice buck, its still early.
  14. Hopefully things are starting to turn around. Only time will tell. Hoping to get out Monday night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Not sure how close you are to brantingham but I know some guys up there. They've been seeing a few. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I like my lifeline for a couple reasons. One being obviously for the safety factor, the other is if i have to make a shot leaning forward, i can do it and still feel safe. Hopefully i never need it, but its good to have.
  17. Im in an hour before sunlight. If i can't get in before sunlight, then i won't hunt until the afternoon. I hunt fairly close to a property line and dont like pushing deer to the neighboring property. I sit on the ground during gun season so i dont have to worry about climbing in the dark.
  18. Hopefully things take a turn for the better come next weekend. So far this is the worst year for movement that I've ever seen.
  19. I'm not in any of those areas but close. I'm in 6s. Very little sign of the rut. I've seen one scrape. Have yet to see any rubs. Very little deer movement they're all nocturnal here. I'm in southern herkimer county by the way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Thanks I didn't even think of that. So it's kind of like chickens when they mate they lose some tail feathers. I didn't even think the rut began around me because of how little sign there is. This proves that it is I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Got this picture on my last card pull and have been wondering what it is. To me it looks like maybe just bird ox but I was also thinking maybe it was a bad hind quarter shot by someone or even possibly a chunk of hind quarter taken out by a yote. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Got all situated in the stand and immediately dropped my card reader out of my pocket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. The only reason I'm building one is because I got a hell of a deal on a complete upper and stripped lower through Remington. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Thank you. I bought special take down pins that are supposed to make it a breeze to open so we will see. Definitely won't be as easy as changing a magazine out would be, that's for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I decided on going with a fixed mag. I'm currently waiting on my lower parts kit and I'll be all set. The regulations on this is a little sketchy which I think is ridiculous but that's a discussion for another time. Everything that I'm doing to this gun is legal to my knowledge. Hopefully I'll have updates later this week when my parts come in! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
