  1. very nice buck. Download the antler insanisty app if you have an iphone/ipad. it'll help you score, but i agree with nyantler
  2. hearing from a few experienced hunters that there's some lockdown in7J. Smaller bucks are still chasing but the big boys are hard to find.
  3. maybe it was more. i know my mom wasn't extremely happy about it.
  4. for some reason i thought this was going to be about thermos. like the thermocline and deers reaction to them haha
  5. in my county and most i thought, when you buy land they are legally required to survey it. the seller pays for this, so utilize it. I bought 5 acres with my house and it was very helpful. Found a bunch of neighbors lawns had crept onto my land over the years. the previous owner had the land for 37 years so i'm sure nobody ever knew. Now i'm in a predicament where one neighbor walks a good 200' onto my land to dump grass clippings. 5 acres is not a lot and he's about 200' from my stand. sticky situation. My father paid around $500 i think this summer to survey 30 acres as we have hunters on all side and there were some debates on where the lines were. I felt it was a good investment, but it's important to maintain good relations as you dont want to shoot a nice buck only to have it die on someone’s land and have them deny you access. it happens.
  6. been there. nothing makes me more upset. On one hand, you're making it easy to catch you. On the other you're polluting the outdoors you're in and enjoying.
  7. you're missing my point as usual. if you dont want others to comment on your hunting style/ethics/goals then dont post them. and if you do and someone disagrees you shouldn't get all bent out of shape. you posted and you're now subject to a debate.
  8. i rarely hunt the same stand twice within a few days. but if you have good action and haven't been busted then go for it. there's nothing better than a fresh stand though in my book.
  9. my thoughts as well. for me it's just getting in the woods. i love the challenge, i love going after the big bucks and i love the taste of venison.
  10. huge activity this morning. had a big 8 chasing a doe in my back yard even
  11. being a jerk never ends well. not sure why people think it'll work out for them
  12. i agree. i know a dec guy in 7J who has a pile of them. takes them from private land and sells them on craigslist.
  13. not a whole lot of people post about illegal stuff or if they're the type to hunt illegally are they the type going on message boards looking for advice etc. I also find it funny that a lot of you keep throwing out "i hunt what i want and that's my business" but then post several times a day on a public forum. lol.
  14. I raise you Bubba :) passed on nice 6s or small 8s plenty of times only to get a doe or smaller deer in the end. that's the great thing about hunting as a sport.
  15. While he only gave one guy permission, when the hunter brought up the other stands the owner didn't seem to care. I think this is painfully obvious that the hunter shouldn't be self-policing the woods without consent. Again, if it's good land I suggest you offer to lease it and post it for exclusivity. Offer a $100 and maybe some venison. That's $100 the owner didn't have before vs him just letting everyone hunt it for free. If he doesn't like venison, get some jerky, sausage or slim jims made up. Everyone loves those. My father and I do this for a 60 acre parcel that butts up to our 30.
  16. no ability to detect sarcasim here? That's a nice buck is what I was saying, regardless of his goofy rack and i think 95% of us would be happy to take him. @ bubba, I'm not sure what you mean by food plot? there's not a single food plot in any of the 3 places i hunt. That trail cam is over a natural scrape. i agree. I usually pass on smaller bucks but sometimes just run into life vs time in the woods struggles. My father and uncles who are older with more vacation pass on bucks quite often.
  17. tresspassers usually aren't the type that visit internet forums.
  18. The time spent in the woods vs working doesn't always apply. I'm salary. Whether I take vacation or hunt on the weekends, i cant be working instead. But I see your point. But I hope most of us agree that you shouldn't lie about what you are. I know some poor hunters who claim to be meat hunters, but honestly they tell me they never see big deer; so is it a cop-out? I dont know. I just dont believe any of you "meat hunters" would pass a 150 lb. wall hanging 8 point for a 160 lb. breeder doe.
  19. eh, with 2 doe i think you made the right call. better to let things unfold naturally.
  20. really only 2 "likely" possibilities. a buck or a human. grunt a little next time and see if he shows up
  21. yeah but that requires shipping and what not? i also want it to go to a new hunter or young hunter, not just someone looking to upgrade. not sure there's a solution.
  22. yes. yes i would. but i agree with most. i dont think you'll be able to do much. it cant hurt but you may not be really doing much. *cough* bs *cough* listen i love my meat too. but I'll take that 10 then shoot a nice big doe. Damn man, you have 5 tags and people who give away meat. i'm shooting this guy. mostly because his genetics are bad
  23. you are certainly right. the most expensive part of hunting is usually the firearm and a lot of us have hand-me-downs or at the least an 870 can be had used for $200. If you have the ability to butcher yourself than you save money there too, but there's a nice investment on your part to do that, but include the pork and packaging materials. a case of cheap shells and you're in the woods. wish there was a "good will" for hunting gear. I'd love to pass on my no longer used or gear that is too small to some kids who are looking at getting into hunting but their parents aren't or cant afford it. Between myself, dad and uncles we could probably outfit 20 kids haha.
  24. http://www.dec.ny.go...tdoor/8305.html It is unlawful to hunt big game with: A firearm or bow aided by any artificial light or a laser that projects a beam toward the target. An autoloading firearm with a capacity of more than 6 shells (one which requires that the trigger be pulled separately for each shot), except an autoloading pistol with a barrel length of less than 8 inches. A firearm using rimfire ammunition. A shotgun of less than 20 gauge or any shotgun loaded with shells other than those carrying a single projectile. A bow with a draw weight of 35 lbs or less. Arrows with barbed broadheads; arrowheads less than 7/8 inches at the widest point or with less than 2 sharp cutting edges. Dogs. Aircraft of any kind. Bait. Where's the sullivan county exception?
