  1. i check in every now and then. that's very odd and won't help. you've both got more resolve than me being hamstrung still.
  2. yea not sure what other branches are doing out your way. things are pretty quiet lately. a lot of work to get content out there to reach people. i'm sure Culver and a couple others are still kicking around doing what they can though.
  3. have been in the past but not this time. well nobody that's active that i know is on here anyway.
  4. great advice given already. I'd add that deer select places to hold up over winter not just for food but for other things like thermal cover. placing food for them in a place without these things might persuade them to stay close to this food in less than idea habitat versus where they otherwise would be much better off.
  5. i've shot Eley Sport, Aguila Standard Velocity Target, CCI Chootem, CCI Minimags, CCI Standard, and CCI AR Tactical out of my Ruger MarkIII bullseye pistol. I shoots the CCI Tactical within a single ragged hole well within the 10 ring on a Slow Fire NRA B-2 target. others open up a little. I shoot the other standard velocity stuff because it's less recoil and not high velocity. helps me get back on target better. so it's a trade off.
  6. nice! so I'm not fire forming or creating a cartridge from another. I have been contemplating getting a benchsource for more consistent annealing. i would be doing so just for longer life brass and better accuracy from more consistent reloads. the water bath is to make sure youre not annealing too far down past the neck i thought. brass being brass quenching i wouldn't think is necessary. you're not hardening the case back up. maybe could see it if you stop the heating and associated change in the metal. brass heats and cools pretty quick.
  7. Thanks to those who've purchased tickets. Still many available so odds of winning are good. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  8. Passed up at least 7 bucks. Not live right now but some photos from the weekend opener. One trail cam pic I let walk Sunday evening. Some others I never got pics of because I was prepped and ready hearing them coming in pushing doe. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  9. idk how many deer. a lot. Saturday and Sunday I let at least 7 bucks walk in total. all between 1.5 to 2.5 years old. closest was directly under climber at my one set that was only 8ft off the ground. many others within chip shot bow range. guess i haven't converted to the rifle hunting mindset quite yet.
  10. i've always used cheaper alkalines until the temps get really cold. then some cameras I've had seem to do better with lithiums.
  11. Mature buck spotted multiple times in last few days. Hunting a travel corridor between the locations. We'll see. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  12. Rutcation day today. Spike pushing 3 doe so far. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  13. I irony is burmjohn back in the day hijacked me from another hunting forum to come here. Hahaha Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  14. oh no.... private single story office bldg we own that borders part of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. I've had deer walk across the lawn out my window and head right into the woods. A lot of hiking and activity this time of the hunting season on the weekends though. Best to hunt during the week or inclement weather with less people around. Otherwise deer hole up in adjacent inaccessible strips of cover/woods.
  15. that's a respectable, nice 2.5 or 3.5 year old buck depending on what area of the state you're in! congrats! Glad you found him.
  16. looks like a decent hit to be uneffected unless you got up into the backstrap without hitting spine or arteries. were'd you think you hit him and the path of the arrow?
  17. i did too. only to go into the office here in Albany, look out my wall of windows, and stare at one of the best hunting spots I have. lol work gets in the way of life I'm tellin ya!
  18. yea we don't do anything to them because you don't want to scrape or damage the root. Just make sure they're in something that can breathe so they dry out. Otherwise they'll start to rot.
  19. Yea I saw him post pictures on facebook. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  20. Not sure what to do with this crazy wind and 70+ degree temps. Not heading into a either thick swamp to shoot a deer on a Sunday night. Hardwood oak ridge. Marginal wind sending scent down over mountain behind me. Pond and green hay field down in front of me. Last time i hunted here I shot a 178lb dressed buck that I could sit down in it's rack. Pretty windy tonight though. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  21. Congrats to him. I saw. Is he going to post anything about it though? Well deserved. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  22. It's worked and not worked. I don't think they mind it but activity fell off in that spot to move up into woods and hit the acorns. Plus we keep getting a south wind that doesn't work for the spot. Blows right into where they'd be coming from. I pulled the blind off the wagon. Might move the wagon somewhere else. 23. Feels like spring turkey season but not as cold at sunrise. Can't kill them from the couch during bow though. Over grown pasture at 2 o'clock, natural hardwood funnel to my left, thick brushy hole out front, and open hardwoods downwind at 4 oclock up the hill. This is always a mid morning activity spot. 7 bald heads so far. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  24. There's some truth to this. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  25. if i was closer I'd bring beer and we'd process it nice and quick. don't need much room if you bone it all out to put in the fridge. don't even have to hang it. just on a clean tarp to roll it on to as you pull off the hide. you can use hide between ground and meat but it sometimes gets a little debris stuck in the thin slippery membrane around the muscles. hard to rinse out and i like my deer as perfectly clean as possible.
