  1. Good luck all. I'll be on 5 acres with my crossbow across the street from a somewhat heavily hunted swamp... Best opening day spot for me.
  2. I hunt 5 acres with about 3-4 houses in view of my 2 stands (suburban bow only) and this morning the neighborhood does were acting real strange. Yearlings were alone. Figuring some lockdown starting, I went back this afternoon around 330 and felt like bucks were hanging close knowing the does bed very close by. This buck I've seen a few times was bedded about 10 yds from my stand while the doe he was with browsed. I crawled to 20 yds and waited for what seemed like an eternity for him to stand up and move into a shooting lane.
  3. Had my target buck come in tonight behind the neighborhood does. 3.5yo 8 point. He worked a community scrape. I'm only on 5 acres behind a friend's house. He was mirroring one of the does... I climbed out of my tripod and the wind noise tonight got me to within 35yd on the ground but he stayed behind some brush. Very close.... Good luck all.
  4. Haven't logged on in a while. Only 2 sits this year so far. Rattled in 2 mature bucks Wed night. 8H. They ended up fighting right at dark and I got out of there before they made me. Set up my first tripod stand this year... Excellent xbow spot
  5. If things don't change i too will work my way out... Currently have a good job and able to put away some retirement money..
  6. Early November is prime time. If you're on a budget a lot of members here shoot the centerpoint sniper by crosman. I have one and it's pretty solid but people will complain about some rattling noises and the trigger. Other ones worth mentioning are wicked ridge/tenpoint, Excaliber, and barnett. These 4 are the only ones I've shot before... Take care of the rail and strings and cables. I feel like i can take a deer out to about 45 yds confidently which is pretty cool.
  7. Very sorry to see this. What a beautiful doggy. My condolences to you and your family.
  8. Very cool.... Must've been a hell of a lot of buck tracks in front of your cam. This was my best big buck on hot doe pic.. Opening day of gun season however i was at another property... Hoping he survived the season...
  9. Couple guys i could tell reloaded.. There's only 2 or 3 guys hunting on my road but several shots after legal light... I do have a muzzleloader but i was out with my xbow out of respect for the neighbors as I'm on only 5 acres....
  10. Well, didn't punch any tags this year. Went out tonight with the xbow....Heard the first shot of the evening at 4:41 and the last shot at 5:04.. With about 6 or 7 shots total... Lol.. No comment. Only saw 2 year old bucks during gun and the 2 chances i had at mature does i was busted... An off year for sure but one property I hunt this was my 2nd year there, and another it was my 3rd year there, and I'm the only one with permission at both places.. Should be wall hangers next year. Cousin and friend are donating some meat lol... Congrats to all....
  11. Well this morning a doe was kicking what I'm assuming were her 2 yearlings so the woods were crazy for a few minutes... Took the safety off my xbow a couple times but the momma doe never came within range. Yesterday i heard a noise and had 3 does underneath me looking up. Came from behind out of nowhere... Not my weekend! Couple days left Also, after checking cams my hit-list buck walked across my stand on opening day of gun 11/16 around noon... I was at another property.. Mid day movement!
  12. All old evidence of hunting spots on my cousins 40 acres are legit. This was my 2nd year hunting it and I'm still learning deer patterns there but buckets and downed stands etc definitely have helped...
  13. No blind or he'll never use that field again. I would go with a ghillie suit or like someone said before a ghost blind. These are semi aggressive options. Rattling now might work it's late enough in the season along with a buck decoy. I've had good luck in December rattling. Good luck
  14. Well about 7 or 8 doe busted me this morning when i was waiting for yearlings to pass and take a crack at a big one... Walking back in tonight all the doe were bedded along my walk into the woods.. Busted again lol. Property is land locked and i only have 1 trail back into the woods unfortunately....
