  1. Congrats to the successful hunters! Weekend starting off with a lot of bloodshed! Way to go!
  2. One deer seen this morning, 4 pointer never came closer than 40. Back out in a couple of hours. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  3. Apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze. M. DiCarlo RIP
  4. Biz - if I shoot a buck tomorrow should I text you first so you can predict it?
  5. Probably the Waste Management truck! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  6. I would love to get a swing at this half rack boy! The other one is not too shabby either! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  7. Sat for 2 hours this afternoon. Finally saw deer at 5:30. Two does right in front of my blind, but I was in a tree stand 100 yards away. They came out closer to me to feed and stuck around until 6:00 closing time. Slowly line down my backpack and bow, look to my left to be sure and three more deer (does) are in the field right in my scent cone. They stuck around for 5 minutes or so and finally caught wind of me, then took off with tails flapping. Glad to see deer moving around even if it is too late for me to make a move, but I am sure that is all about to change!

    Warm gear

I love the First Lite stuff, I have several pieces. I have not bought any Sitka or tried any on. Usually the price tag stops me.....
  10. You can add it prior to cooking it. I read that pork fat does not freeze 100% and can turn rancid over time, even when vac sealed. Only one source, so I’m interested in other opinions too. Thoughts?
  11. Do yourself a favor and save the front shoulders for this Recipe https://honest-food.net/barbacoa-recipe-venison/ Incredibly delicious and very very easy! Also, We have followed instructions from Dr. Grant on Growing Deer TV on how to butcher, very well explained and easy to do. https://www.growingdeer.tv/?ep=how-to-process-your-own-deer#/deer-meat-how-to-process-your-own
  12. So far I keep it zipped when walking to my location, then unzip it. The flap has a magnetic clasp to hold it in place, very easy to remove. Not as easy as straps, but still easy access.
  13. I just bought a new one from Black Ovis, made by Sitka. https://www.blackovis.com/sitka-bino-bivy-8x-10x-00c Good size for my nocks and I could squeeze in my rangefinder if I wanted to, but I like that on a long loop around my neck hanging near my belt line. I like the magnetic closure on the flap, but you can zip it shut if you want to as well.
  14. I have had many fine meals in Parsippany, NJ! Damned if I can remember any of their names now though.......
  15. Sat both this morning and afternoon. No deer seen. I did have one blow at me when I was walking home. I checked a trail cam and saw the wide racked buck that lost half his rack, pic taken on October 12th, so hopeful he is still around. Duck hunting in the AM, then dinner and Sebastian Manacalusco show, celebrating my wife’s birthday. PS Congratulations ATBuckhunter! Beautiful deer and a great shot!
  16. Mix equal parts soy sauce, olive oil, worchester sauce, add some heat if you like - either Tabasco, red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper. Or other flavors like teriyaki. Marinate the deer (sliced into one inch pieces) heart in this mix for 30-60 minutes. Sautée some onions until they start to brown on the edges, add the deer heart to the pan and cook until just past rare. Do not go past medium.
  17. I went out and sat this afternoon for two hours. No deer seen until 6:05, and they were 150+ yards away. Next sit is Friday morning for a couple of hours. Saturday and Sunday are TBD - as it is my wife’s birthday.
  18. Question on the Evercalm.....I have one I bought three or so years ago. Is it still good to use? It still stinks like doe piss!
  19. That is not such a bad idea! I store my clothes in a tote and put one of those “Earth” pods in it. When I put them on, I smell dirt. We use ozone machines to kill odors in hotel rooms and the instructions clearly state TO NOT BE IN THE ROOM WHEN THE MACHINE IS ON.
  20. I took the archery safety class last year and they spent at least twenty minutes talking about this. What it had to do with safety, I have no idea. i have a large SUV and if I transport my deer it’s back there but covered, trying to keep the ticks under control. Last year I had a pickup available the weekend I shot my buck. I was bringing it to my friends house to butcher it and I had someone follow me and pull into his driveway. Wasn’t sure if was going to scold me or congratulate me.....turns out he wanted to hear the story of my buck. But you never know these days!
  21. For what its worth, if you want to give it a try..... Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  22. I just saw an article on cooking mergansers Ducks Unlimited last month.....it did involve a brine soak. I'll see if I can find it tonight and post it for you.
