    Okay...That didn't take long...According to the 1959-1960 NYS Hunting-Fishing-Trapping guide, the legal hours for deer hunting in the southern zone were 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.... The gun season for deer that year was Nov 16- Dec 1....The archery season was 14 days preceeding the gun season... No Sunday hunting, of course... I am not sure when the sunrise-sunset rule took effect, but when I was hunting from 1965-1970 ( prior to entering the military) it was still 7:00 to 5;00.. I'm sure a few of the older local SZ hunters, such as Airedale, can back me up on this..

    Damn !! I think I have a syllabus from the 60s around here someplace...I'll have to look it up.. I can't remember IMPORTANT stuff worth a crap, but I do remember that when I began deer hunting in the mid 1960s that the hunting hours for deer ( and most other game were 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM....

    Yeah, Rob....I would have to do some research to say when the 7:00 to 5:00 rule ended, but I know it was still in effect in the late 1960's...

    Why limit yourself ? 2" high is certainly not going to make you miss or make a marginal hit at 100 yards...And what if you DO get a chance at 250 yards ? I agree with Airedale that sighting in at 100 is fine with high trajectory chamberings such as 44 Mag or 45-70, but with many flat shooting standard calibers, why waste perfectly good trajectory ?

    Lots of rifle shots around....Sometimes the bow hunters forget that there are lots of GUN hunters around, and many of them are checking out their ordinance....

    When I started hunting and when Fasteddie And Doc started hunting, the shooting hours for deer season were 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM... I suppose that made hunting during the 1960s a lot more dangerous... I am aware that the number of hunting accidents may have been statistically higher then but I also wonder if the hunting hours were a significant factor..

    Just WAIT, young feller !! I think I'm getting stronger in my old age...Years ago I used to have to use both hands to depress it so I could take my morning leak... Now I can do it with one finger, and I still have to be careful not to leave droplets on the toilet rim...

    The stock and case hardening are definitely an improvement... I always thought the FN-Fal type, like the British L1A1 were pretty cool....That and the M-14/M1A are about as "modern" as my taste runs..

    I have an H&R Handi-rifle with a Tupperware stock and a Leupold scope...The scope is worth more than the rifle, LOL ! I have a Rem 11-87 with a synthethic camo stock... All of my other long guns are wood and blued metal.. The only stainless guns I own are handguns..
