Boys team lost again a diamond nation. They are really struggling. Errors are brutal. Every game they are in it and then one inning where it foes the same way...walk...wild pitch...bunt ...safe everywhere. Steal 2nd:..2&3rd no out and let the error parade happen. That is how the last 4 games go from either us up a couple or tied to a lose. Hitting has been selfish - huge swings with kids not realizing the 200’ fences of LL are gone. Hit hard ground balls and lines drives and run the bases (which they don’t do well either). On the bright side my one kid(catcher) has his batting average onto .393...went from batting 10 to sitting in the 2 hole...ALL singles with one double...JUST GET IN AND PASS THE BATON!! Yup...that’s what I would do. Juts remember it is strong so your SHRAMPS can be overpowered. Steak and fries sounds good to me. Doesn’t each generation want to make it better for the next. Now BETTER is the term that need to be redefined- is it just better to make it easier, less painful, less struggle for what they have? Wouldn’t we all have just had what we wanted when we were young and unaware of the intrinsic value of earning what we get. We have gone too far in making things better and wrongly defined what better is. Bigger question is how do we stop it? Or even if I just wanted to stop it for mine, how do I do that when the whole world is moving at a new pace- isn’t that then unfair for mine? There’s a lot I agree with from the above however the journey of competitive team sports is not with success. The success (as a result of the sacrifice) is the reality that I have two outstanding sons who are strong, healthy, and know how to succeed and more importantly fail when the failure does not really matter in the long run. Success and failures at high levels of competition have prepared them for the inevitable triumphs, and more importantly again, the difficulties/disappointments in life. My latest line to my boys when they start overthinking success or failure is, “well you better be perfect cuz if not you won’t have a house to come home to or a family that loves you.” Or “good thing you brought that trophy home(substitute any success- went 3-3; pitches well, etc), i guess we will let you live here a little longer.” The lunacy of the statements drive home perspective- no matter how much they feel it matters now, in the grand scheme it is all irrelevant compared to the journey and the people going through it with you.
