Hey Eddie had I not received it as a gift I would not have it, that being said I honestly have to say it actually does show the wind direction, but like I said above not any better than a wet finger or my shaved head.

    Al

True it shows the wind direction right in front of you but milkweed will show you wind direction a lot further out. Lots of times, especially hill country, the wind will be in a different direction 40,50,60 yards out

  2. Going out tomorrow. Have a bunch of bucks on cams that dropped but the set I’m looking for he’s still holding as of 2 days ago. Also a smaller one with some potential still holding as well

I think I’m gonna get out this weekend and shwack one. I’ve got deer hitting our fields literally everyday and one field they seem to be in all day. Still have a few bucks holding head gear

I've been thinking of a new climber.  I'm rocking a Summit Viper currently.  This might be the one I go with.  Did they mention the total weight of the unit?  I watched the whole video, and they said it was lighter than the original hand climber, but I cant recall a total weight.  I'm not too excited for the price point....guessing it'll be $500 plus.

I’m guessing it’s gonna be way higher than $500. I seen on another forum that it may come in around 11-12lbs

I really like them.  My father in law gave me a pair, that is stamped “1989”, as a Christmas gift, about 20 years ago.  I’ve used them on most cold weather hunts the last 15 years.  My feet have never got cold in them, except for a time when I submerged one several times.

Mine are showing no signs of wear, and I expect they will last quite a few more years.  I have not heard of any non-military style boot, they can equal their performance at any price, and I think they only cost around $ 40, back when he bought them.

They work very well with the snowshoes since I cut the openings in the rubber bindings 1/4” wider all the way around.  My feet got real cold wearing those Sorrel packs, the first morning of Holiday ML season.  No trouble with that the other cold days in the Mickey Mouse boots.

I think the folks who spend big bucks on fancy cold weather boots are nuts.

I appreciate the feedback. You and @DoubleDosejust sold me on these. Would you recommend getting one size large to allow for air circulation with heavy socks?

I don't duck/goose hunt, so curious to know how you tell the difference between Canada geese from "up north" versus the ones that live on LI year round?

@Versatile_Hunterpretty much summed it up in one sentence. Local birds, around here anyways, tend to be at schools and golf courses etc. I won’t even guide for a September trip because IF they come in you get one shot at them and then they’re gone. Since I guide everyday I definitely see a lot more birds hitting our fields after a front passes through

No deer showed up in wmu 9A, where I stayed until 1/2 hour past sunset.  I’m rigged for rain at home in 9F this morning, holed up in the lower level of my two-story truck cap blind, watching over an old clover plot.  They are calling for rain all day today.

I’m thankful to have made it back here without soaking a foot or both.  My Mickey-Mouse boots are only good for about 10” of water and I had to have gotten close to that a few times crossing the low spots.  The creek is at the top of the banks from all the snow melt-off.

There’s quite a few deer tracks, scat, and signs of foraging on the adjacent clover, but it’s probably all happening at night.  It’s quite comfortable in here, with a very light sse wind and about 45 degrees.  I’ll probably stay until 11:45 or so, hoping to catch a deer dumb enough to come out in the daylight for a bite.

At sunset tonight, I’ll strap my tree umbrella to the dead ash tree and hang out in my natural blind, by my turnip plot, on the other side of the farm. That will be my last shot at making 2022 a 4-deer year.  815EAD4D-1308-476A-9788-F31D17FB26B9.thumb.jpeg.bcbd9fece92bc1b60aa3547908d9a8d3.jpeg

You’re the 3rd person this week that I’ve heard mention about Mickey Mouse boots. Are they warm or what’s special about them? I’m only asking because I’m in the market for new boots. TIA

Wow that's impressive good luck to you in Texas. Do you have a restaurant? Food truck? Pull up and go spot in NY? I'm sure the NYhunting forum wouldn't mind supporting you.

Thank you very much. I don’t have any ties to the food industry. I’m actually a painting contractor until hunting season and then I guide here on Long Island the entire season. Would love to do a food truck but seems like more of a hassle just trying to legally find a spot to park let alone all the permits these crooks want

That's tremendous- is this a "just a hobby" or are you looking to make a business with your BBQ? Are you sponsored- good but if $$$ in travel and competition I imagine-Really cool.

Yes it’s just a hobby but it’s like kinda like hunting I guess. It’s a hobby that I’m passionate about. After qualifying for Worlds I’ve had numerous different companies reach out in the past week but I’m waiting to hear all the offers first before I make a decision. I really would love to open a BBQ food truck here on LI but we live in the “land of the no”. Just to many hoops, hurdles and permits for my liking

At those competitions are you doing multiple different entrees to win? And they choose a winner based on overall? The one i was watching they always did chicken, pulled pork, ribs and brisket. That's a whole lot to cook in one day.

No what you seen is KCBS events. Just to far for me to compete and takes a lot of time leading up to the event. I cook SCA events which stands for Steak Cookoff Association. We cook ribeyes. They judge it on taste, texture, doneness and overall appearance. Best part about these events are that they are 1 day events unlike KCBS where you’re prepping meat for days leading up to the comp

  12. Competed 2 weeks ago in Smyrna,Delaware against a pretty stacked field and took 1st place. Got my Golden Ticket to compete in the Worlds Championship in Fort Worth,Texas next March. If you’ve never competed in an SCA event it really is a lot of fun and meet some great people. Here’s my winning steak
