  1. We all have different stations in life. And our degree of affluence is therefore different. WHAT THE CORRECT PRICE PER ACRE OF LAND TO OFFER FOR A LEASE. My answer would be whatever someone is willing to pay. If it is successfully leased it was priced right, even though a number of hunters couldn't afford it. And to publicly criticise a landowner for his asking price is rude. There are many things in life, I can't afford. So, I adjust my standard of living. I Hunted state land for twenty plus years.
  2. Mines bigger and better than yours. Challenge complete.
  3. My original post was not meant as a negative comment about excalibur crossbows. Everyone knows they are one of the best manufactures.

  5. I and others would appreciate this list of crossbows with draw weight of over 200 lbs there by illegal in ny

  7. I have ghost 410,one of the fastest bows and it only has a draw weight of 185lbs with a Powerstroke of about 16inches.
  8. If you have stands on Yyour property lines, your doing the same thing that is pissing you off
  9. Explains why postings "from the stand" are posted in hours of darkness. Be nice to put the website on eastern time zone time.
  10. Just read the specs for the new 2015 excalibur micro 335. It has a draw weight of 270 pounds. NYS regulations allow the use of crossbows between 100 - 200 pounds. So, before you purchase the new excalibur micro 335 be advised iT can only be used legally to target shoot.
  11. Now that the gun season is upon us, the question of which weapon the hunter will choose becomes viable. Rifle? shotgun? muzzleloader? bow? crossbow? Also known as a muzzleloader by NY state powers to be.(sic) Confused dont whether to take my new barnett ghost 410 crossbow or my thompson contender muzzeloader. Lets see my arrow travels at 410 fps and has 149 foot pound of energy at impact. My muzzle loader about 1500 fps. quite honestly dont know the energy As far as range50 yards to To 200 yards Now i notice the similarities between the two. Cant blame the politicians for requiring a muzzleloader permit to use crossbow. After all, more people that hunt with a broadhead will use a crossbow than those that use a bullet. AND THATS NO WAY FOR THE STATE TO MAKE MONEY. ps: spent $150 ( license &permit) and $350 on lodging and food. ( went the cheap mode) to ogio couple weeks go crossbow hunting. I'll be muzzleloading tomorrow for at leat my first deer, then flip a coin
  12. How many will remain with the crossbow or bow as t heir hunting weapon?
  13. Whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
  14. Just not to respectful to the landowner, to use any type of screw into the tree steps. Better to treat the landowners land like your own or abide by the rules of public (state) land. Maintaining a good relatioship with the land owner will go a long way in insuring you have a place to hunt in the future.
  15. The hunting community is no different than the general population . There are thieves amongst each group. The simplest and safest solution would be to use climbers They are young enough to transport into and out of the woods. Most of the time the trespassing is committed by town or village locals that have limites financial resources to secure their own hunting area. Its so much cheaper to trespass on someone elses land, especially if they are known not to hunt or rarely hunt the property. Example landowners that don't reside locally. ,
  16. Nuisance permits are issu ed to farmers who can verify the damage caused by deer. They are only allowed to be used out of season for does only. The farmers that have substantiated financial losss because of the deer herd can usually get party permits from the DEC to use during the hunting season provided they still have nuisance permits unused.. So if a farmer was given 10 nuisance permits and only five were used by hunting season, then the farmer could get 5 doe permits to use during the season. Bottomline the farmer has substaniated 1000's of dollars worth of loss to justify a particular number of nuisance permits to only be used to harvest doe's out of season.
  17. So, I will thank all those that had anything to do with getting the crossbow as a legal hunting instrument. From the governor down. That being said, I'm appreciative but discerning individual . My vote this year will be based on many faucets of the politicians way of governing. I HAVEN't forgotten the NY SAFE ACT. Or how it was passed. Hopefully, no matter what your political affiliation, as hunters we remember the safe act, when casting our vote
  18. Five years ago I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Coma for 15 days Suffered a traumatic brain injury. Spent 6 weeks in hospital rehab, and 8 weeks out patient rehab.Regained most of my normal functions, except ability to walk unassisted or stand for extended period of time. So, I will be able to hunt legally in new york for deer during archery season. ( hopefully the powers to be Will have the common sense to install crossbow use at the same time, longbow. Recurves, compounds are allowed). And YES,I pull a trigger to discharge my. Crossbow, just like 95 % of all archers using compounds pull the trigger on their release to shoot an arrow. Last year I had to travel to Ohio to.archery hunt for deer. Contemplated being a lawbreaker after a lifetime of following the conservation rules. Now hopefully I won't have too. I'm 60 years old won't be climbing trees anymore just a ground blind man these days. BUT I'll be out in the woods and at camp with family and friends.the month of October and the first part of November. Then again for gun season.
  19. 2006 silverado crewcab. Bought in Feb 09 with 37,000 miles. Now has about 52,000 mosty from lending it to my sons ,their girl friend,or brother when there vehilces breakdown
  20. Its just as easy to fall in love with a woman of wealth as it is a poor woman. Or so said my dad. But I didn't listen. Seriously though, the recommendation to learn to live on 70-80% of your net income is great. If you can make 20-30% of your net income disposable.
  21. 59 year old ex postal worker out on disability retirement. lost ability to walk without assistance (walker). Been deer hunting with shotgun for 43 yrs bow for about 20 years (haven't the last 5-injury). Muzzleloader about 7 seasons And now my initial season of crossbow hunting. UNnfortunately i have to travel to travel to neighboring states to do so.Taking a OHIO trip this year. So myself and five friends are going to spend $2500-$3000 of our disposable income with ohioian businesses. Apparently they have no problem accepting new york residents money. To bad the politician that held the crossbow allowance in hunting, captive in his committee by refusing to address it in a timely matter. Hunt the southern tier and monroe, wayne counties. Also fish both ice and open water. After June exclusively bass ( catch and release) prior to june chase .crappies, bluegills, and perch for the freezer. Have a bassboat with 200 hp.
