  1. How is everyone doing with them this year ? We have 2 and sometimes 1 that comes in to get chased off by the other two. They love the bee balm and feeder. Bought my wife years ago a nice hand blown glass feeder. They never used it, just the cruddy plastic one. Brother has about 6-7 all the time that get into aerial combat. Wife was stopped at a red light yesterday and spotted one buzzed around the red light itself. Neat little creatures. Can't believe how far they fly to migrate though.
  2. I used to get 'The Cabela's Bible" as well. Iv'e ordered more the last few years but don't receive it any more. More PO'd they offered me squat to work there. Millions in $ in retail sales under my belt, manager for 23 years and same store for the same. You'd be amazed at the offer. Sickening !!! Was so excited after the interview too. I'm bitter and considering not shopping there
  3. Regarding waterfront. The Mrs, and I went to The Liberty Hound right near the naval ships last night. Great food and nice craft beer selection. Haven't been down that way in a long time. It's looking quite nice. Despite asking a cop if i could park in the apartments where i did and being told yes I came out to a $50 parking ticket from some fat POS cop want to be writing tickets. 50 yards away in the other direction in which we walked had a sign saying "No parking in Apartment parking unless you have a hang tang" SMH.
  4. Drag, gutting gloves, butt out,zip ties, extra Surefire batteries, TP, extra gloves, orange vest ( I wear only camo in and out as it's dark), bottle of water, maybe thermos of coffee, few extra slugs or turkey loads, snacks. sammich, extra warm hat, rain umbrella to strap to tree overhead, Gerber tool in case optics come loose. A lot of stuff but I dark to dark it in my climber a lot. Mine as well have it than not.
  5. Never got to play any out there. State Am and Mid Am took me to a lot of nice tracks in Syracuse, Utica, Albany and Rochester regions. In Buffalo area myself. Played them all around here. Crag Burn a ton. My favorite course from the tips. Whip an errant shot into the heather and it's like an Easter Egg hunt trying to find it. May not come out with your ball but find a half dozen others. On a side note, our Nicklaus golf club rep asked if I've been playing much golf (years ago) .I said not yet been turkey hunting. Asked me to send him a pic of a nice bird i had tipped over the day before. I emailed it to him. A week later and envelope comes in the mail. He had printed an 8 x 10" pic and it was signed by Jack Nicklaus. Said" Jay, that's a nice bird. Congrats Jack Nicklaus." Jack is a huge hunter and learned he used to stay an extra day or two after an event to hunt.
  6. Love Oak Hill. Played in a best ball tourney a month after the PGA played there. Had to send resume in just to get application. Craig Harmon said it was going to play tougher than it did for the pros. They tricked it up. 4 rounds of complete mental grind. We played the East but I've played the West too, nice gem. Qualified for Oldsmobile Scramble to go expense paid to Disney for nationals at Shadow Lake. 3 team chip off after getting rained out. I was last for our team to chip and we were the last team to chip. I was so nervous I bladed my chip, it hit the bank and rolled to a foot, lol. Enough to win. I vividly remember a local great pro yeliing " OMG we lost on a skull!" Great memories at both courses.
  7. Shot 66 3x with numerous 67's from the tips in tournament play. One 66 had 9 birdies and 3 bogies from the middle of the fairway and missed the green from inside 100 yards and didn't get up and down. Played with Michelle Wii last year at Locust Hill. Buddy took me to club I used to belong to (slashed it around for 81), 9 holes at par 3 with wife and daughter and a bar scramble with lots of drinking involved. I miss the guys I played with more than anything but I manage a golf shop and still see most of them. I know where my clubs are when my daughter is older and I decide to play again. Right now she is my priority .
  8. Used to be a plus 2 handicap.Quit cold turkey. Played in all the state am's and mid-am's. Blinked and my daughter was 6 1/2 . Don't want to miss her growing up, she's now 12. Bought a Mad River canoe, quit the country club I belonged to (7 club championships in 10 years) and never looked back. More family fun stuff now. Hiking, fishing, vacation days to take her turkey hunting with me, canoeing. How many shots did you leave out there? My best rounds still had shots I pissed away somewhere.
  9. I had $ in hand to buy this but the extra inch in length and height was huge in comparison to the LCP (380) IMO the LCP is a pocket stuffer and the LC9 is not. I left without buying it as much as I had my heart set on it.
  10. I hunt in Wyoming county and can hunt bear if i so choose. I throw out my bear tag the day I get my license. Would rather see the bear and give someone else that same chance to see it . It may be the only bear I or they ever see.
  11. Not sure what county you are in but don't believe any require a class to apply for carry concealed. You just apply. Usually waiting awhile after you receive your target/hunting permit. If you're in Erie County....good luck ! As far as what gun/caliber to get for CC. Keep in mind summer and warm weather is hard to conceal a larger gun than say a Beretta Tomcat .32 or Ruger LCP 380. Winter it's easy to stuff a larger gun and caliber in the waistband and throw a jacket over it. IMO get 2 for carry. One warm weather carry and one for carry when you can conceal it a little better. A loaded .45 home in the safe doesn't do any good if you're not carrying it. Beretta .32 Tomcat never leaves my pocket til Fall when I can carry others.
  12. Wonder if that was the Alden bear that moved thru Lancaster that hung out for awhile.
  13. When I was a kid I remember reading Fur-Fish-Game and seeing what fur prices were. Astonished at the price of ginseng per pound. But then again, a pound of lead vs a pound of ginseng
  14. After whining about eating too many burnt on the outside and raw in the middle taters to my brother he told me of this trick. Throw them right in the coals.
  15. Baked potatos in fire wrapped in foil - stick an aluminum gutter nail in center so they also cook inside. Have eaten way too many burnt on the outside and raw in the middle Cooler corn- for lots of corn on the cob- shuck, throw in plastic cooler-pour boiling water into cooler- when water is cooled, corn is done. Can't overcook and no hot kitchen Carmelized onions- core white onion, put on foil, pat of butter, 2 beef boullion cubes, another pat of butter. Fold up foil. On campfire or grill on high heat for about half hour. Should be browned. Eat petals like a snack. Just like onions from French Onion soup Just a few mainstays we utilize a lot
  16. Just planted 2 blueberry bushes this year. One is yielding a few berries a day. The other, nothing. Did stumble into some black raspberry bushes in town while walking the dog. Nobody else saw these, smh. Right along a creek and path. Went back with jeans the next morning and picked a pint in about 15 minutes, Going back in a day or so. Found if I get under the canopy where the birds can't see them....lots of berries. Think I eat about as many as I took home for the parents and wife and daughter to throw on cereal. Now I gotta check my secret blackberry hidey hole.
  17. Nothing good ever comes between 2 am and 4 am in a bar IMO. More of this and not
  18. Nice fish/pics. Thanks for sharing
  19. Yes, never understood why people can hunt with a handgun in a rifle cartridge in non rifle areas.
  20. Sounds like a great day. My buddy has been hammering the smallies pretty much where you were. 40 one day with a nice northern and a small musky and 25 the next day. He's throwing crankbaits and some Gulp tube jig thingy. Call them sheephead freshwater drum and they sound so much more sporting : )
  21. I have a problem with this website. All of this knowledge and wisdom passed around hasn't helped me kill a slob of a buck in the last few years
  22. Only have heard rumors of a doe will adopt a fawn early on or vice versa if it's mother got hit by car etc. Not sure of the truth to this.
  23. Have to think there's more to this story than we know.
  24. Darien lake state park is a nuthouse during deer season. I passed 30 something cars on the Broadway and the 77 entrances a few years back. And that leaves Sumner rd parking to boot.No thank you. I've heard good things about Alabama swamps but never actually hunted it. There's always knocking on doors with a little drive, asking farmers if you could hunt their property. Congrats and good luck
