Guns you want to buy next.
Buckmaster7600 replied to rob-c's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Just ordered mine, browning cynergy 12ga 28” in mossy oak bottomland. Figure it ought to be bad medicine for crows. Other than that I don’t really have any wants right now. My dream rifle should be done by the end of August a Remington 7615 in 450bushmaster. My days of buying a few guns a month are gone. I still buy them when I find one I like but I have really slowed down in the last year or so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I like eating gills/pumpkinseeds but much prefer them in the winter/spring as I think they taste much better than from the hot water of summer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don’t know how you can say the 6.8spc is similar to a 270? Not that the 6.8 is bad but it’s far from a 270 in performance. To get a spc to the 270’s standard 3,000 FPS you’re down in the 80-85gn bullet range and that’s very light for caliber. Will a deer ever know the difference probably not. Your top 3 favorite guns that you own
Buckmaster7600 replied to rob-c's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Remington 870 20ga, got when I was 8 from the old man it would be the last gun I could ever sell. Remington 7600 35whelen, if I could only have 1 centerfire for the rest of my life that would be it. Ruger 10/22 don’t remember when I got it but I was a young kid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Half hitch a rubber band and clip the knot in the back release. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Were you using braid? If your boards are used you may need to get new pads for the releases. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Trolling is a slippery slope. Once you get hooked just open your wallet and dump it out. Some days it will drive you nuts and some days you’ll think any idiot can do it. My best advice is to pay attention. Any idiot can drive around a lake slow and catch an occasional fish. I am extremely anal when it comes to details, every leader is the same length and lb test. I know how far behind the ball/board every lure is. There’s a note pad on my dash that is constantly getting notes written in it. The key to trolling is repeatability. When you get a bite pay attention to depth, lure, direction, side of boat etc. and try to repeat it. That’s the difference between guys that drive around and pull lures and catch the occasional fish and the guys that are regularly filling coolers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Biggest rack I have ever seen in person that was shot in New York was killed by a kid I worked with when he lived in the Adirondacks. First year hunting doing a drive with his family perfectly typical 14pt with probably a 21-22” inside spread. Worked with him for 3 years talking about hunting every day and he never said a word about it. Went to his house one day to work on his truck had to take a leak on my way inside in a setback in his garage I saw the mount and almost fainted. He said only time he ever hunted and didn’t really like it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why NY deer hunters are the BEST deer hunters
Buckmaster7600 replied to Iluvracks1359's topic in Deer Hunting
Location is a factor. Honestly I don’t know if I would call it a skill but I think successful big woods hunters have something we’re born with that separates us from the rest. I don’t know if it’s drive or an extra sense or what but having spent my 20+ years being in camps and hunting in the Adirondacks and being the son of one of the best that ever played the game I think some have and most don’t. I don’t think it’s something that is learned or taught. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Why NY deer hunters are the BEST deer hunters
Buckmaster7600 replied to Iluvracks1359's topic in Deer Hunting
I think many of you guys put too much emphasis on skill for success in the big woods/Adks. I am far from a skilled hunter and I have had my share of success in the big woods. I think big woods hunting has way more to do with sealing the deal. Capitalizing is the most important part of any style hunting but in the big woods you may only get one chance a season or in many seasons for that matter. A buddy of mine is one of the worst “hunters” I know but he is a stone cold killer and shoots a big ADK buck nearly every year. He walks a lot and can shoot running deer like no one I have ever met. I’m not sure he knows the difference between a rub or a scrape or a buck or a doe track but the son of a gun kills nice bucks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I don’t agree with your buddy, now I’m obviously not saying there aren’t good hunters in New York. I’ve hunted white tails in 13 states from the Deep South to the upper midwest and all along the east coast. Every place deer acted differently and they acted the same. I tend to agree with turkeyfeathers in that most mature bucks are killed by luck. NY makes it pretty easy to make your own luck with such a long season, especially with a gun. If you can find a 8/9n that isn’t too beat that would be my recommendation. That with a quality 3pt finish mower and you’d should be under your budget and have a heck of a good mower. Keep the blades sharp and a good 3pt finish mower will do a darn good job at mowing a lawn and be way faster than a lawn tractor and not too much slower than a zero turn. The key to finish mowers is not going to wide, I wouldn’t get over 5ft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Has Your Scope Ever Made You Bleed?
Buckmaster7600 replied to grampy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Once, from a scope. 12ga 870, Leupold vx3 1-5 bird came in behind me and got spitting distance close I heard him put once and I swung 180 in the air and shot from a falling prone position stock wasn’t in shoulder scope broke my nose, nose broke my flip up scope cap. Killed the bird. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Buckmaster7600 replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Deer Hunting
Last 3 bucks is shot around home I had on cam and were the biggest bucks I had on cam that year. Never shot one in the ADKS that I had on cam. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
That was probably 15 yrs ago and I don’t have the access I had but if I didn’t have 3 boats and a hundred other hobbies I would figure out what I had to to fish it again it was that good! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
