I won't do it. You shoot the doe and the fawn"s" walk around aimlessly, they will be out in fields 2 hrs before the other deer just reminding me that I killed their mom. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What type of .30-06 ammunition to use for deer hunting?
Buckmaster7600 replied to mossy725's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Need? Maybe not. My style of hunting "tracking/still hunting" I very rarely have broadside shots and I want 2 holes. I want to know my bullet will go from "hooter ta tooter or tooter ta hooter." My 06's that I use are sighted in for Barnes 180gn because I know they will penetrate expand and hold weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Maps are key! 7 or 8 years ago I was home on leave for thanksgiving and we had no snow in the ADKS looked at some weather reports and found out that northern NH was getting snow that night. Bought my license online found a state land map did a quick google maps search of the area I wanted to get to. Got in the truck around 1am started driving shot this buck around 1pm after getting on his track at 930am. It was a hellacious drag out and colder than a bastard but it was awesome to drive 5hrs to a spot I had never been with very minimal info on the land. The scary part was my buddy that went with me nor I had a gps at the time we just parked and said see you at dark, I was late way late. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You say tons of blood, it is very possible that she has bled out but was able to get up. If that's the case she won't go far at all. I shot a buck a few years ago in the ADKS that I had tracked all day and shot him when he was getting out of his bed. I got 1 lung and clipped the liver I followed blood for 400yds found a bed with a ton of blood I followed his tracks for another 40yds and found him dead. There was not 1 drop of blood in his last 40yd dash and I had snow. When I gutted him there was almost no blood in his cavity. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Compensating for taking a shot from Treestand
Buckmaster7600 replied to beachpeaz's topic in Bow Hunting
I have been known to sit very high in trees and have to say that I think it is way less of a deal than people make it out to be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I'm laughing because I have been there! My wife has an explorer from the same era and that is the absolute worst vehicle I have ever saw in the mud. I have real good tired on it and it sucks! In the snow there is nothing I would rather drive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is this normal? or I just had a bad luck.

Hunted 10 times saw 1 deer. I would have been moving 8 sits ago. Sometimes 80 yards can be a game changer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
If it's anything like my land the deer love tractors, I use my tractor to move stands and check cams because I can drive it across a field and the deer won't spook. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I run cams around the house just not up at camp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Another member posted this. So, I will kick it off...... How would you hunt if you didn't have trail cams or apps to help scout deer? I have no cams, and I don't use any hunting apps. This year has been fun trying to learn 3 new public land areas. Scouting, learning, meeting up with a fellow member of this site and doing a small game hunt/scout trip, scouting to locate areas for my g/f to be able hunt for her first year, and just over all being in the woods and getting familiar with the new areas I have around me. Looking at runs, locating bedding/feeding.water areas. It's just the essence of hunting! It doesn't get any better then going into areas you have had boots on the ground, know where the runs/rubs/scrapes are, and trying to set up for the terrain and wind. Same way I do in the Adirondacks, cover country and learn what to look for. Know when to get somewhere and when to slow down and creep. I'm always asked about trail cam pics up north and I have no desire, it's way more enjoyable for me to track my buck shoot him in his bed then count points. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks everyone, it really means a lot! We have known He had it for 5 years now but it's starting to turn for the worst now. It's hard I live next door and we are best friends and do everything together. I can't even begin to fathom doing this stuff without him, and with last nights news it's all becoming a reality. Last night was a very rough one for me, we found out the old mans leukemia has moved to stage 4. Today my brother and him are all hunting my hundred acre wood lot in SZ they have their Xbows. On the ride over hear we all decided that today we are going to try and kill a buck God only knows how many chances we will have for the 3 of us to be together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They got me as well, it has its place, basically the only time I use it is on the boat it stays mounted to my planner board mast in the front of the boat facing the back of the boat. It's fun to watch kings hit the dipsey divers and watch buddies struggle to fight em. "I just realized very few will have any clue what I just said." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No lawsuit or legal trouble is worth a deer to me. Sounds like you hunt with a real good group of guys nothing I like being around more than crooked cops. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For the last 3 times I have hunted my 100acre wood lot I have had fresh tracks and a couple rubs on the log road I walk in and out of so tonight I carried a stand in and am hunting that runway. I'm only about 70 yds from the road. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Who will be on the crossbow bandwagon tomorrow morning?
Buckmaster7600 replied to ApexerER's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I had full intentions of using it this year and after i shot it a few times today I hung it up grabbed my verticals bow and shot it. Long story short my new 1400$ Xbow will be at home and I'll be carrying the compound. I was looking forward to it all year but I guess I don't have any interest in using it. Maybe next week. Good luck to those that do and remember keep your digits out of the stroke when loading and unloading those bolts! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Jesus some of you guys are nuts. I own a bunch of land and have to deal with trespassers once in a while and have never raised my voice to any of them. I try not to let stuff bother me because there is way more important stuff to worry about. If I catch them I'll tell them to drag their arse and not come back. Myself or my brother are hunting somewhere on the property about everyday and most know this by now. I have only ever had to talk to someone twice on 1 occasion and that was ended with powering an existing electric fence and 50k gallons of liquid manure spread on the edge of his property line in the field that surrounded his half acre yard. Never needed the cops he got the point and never had to spoke to him again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A lot of good info had already been said, just remember that your not only setting up for wind but also for the sun. The last thing you want is to be staring into the sun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It shouldn't take more than 10minuted to sight in a Xbow I see no reason not to have that sucker on there. Imagine how much you will be kickin yourself if the junk scope costs you a deer this weekend? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hell of a buck pap! Shot looks good maybe a couple inches high and that always makes tracking a little tougher but I can't believe he went that far. I am extremely impressed with the effort you put into finding him! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
