  1. Back a few years ago I had two of my nieces for a day and took them to a shooting range with a certified instructor. We/they had a blast shooting everything from pistols to skeet. It was a memorable day just for the novelty of it as they had never handled firearms before. I've since had them over to my place a few times for fun shooting and plinking, and I used to be an NRA instructor so I know how to do it safely. They're adults in their mid-to-late-twenties now. Just a thought.
  2. Don't mess with me Moog. I'm a little dude but I'm dangerous. ;-) I think I even have an inch or so on Pygmy. ;-)
  3. A decent macaroni dinner is one of the cheapest meals you can make. The price of the ingredients have gone up dramatically, of course, but it's still a low-budget adventure. And if you're not dumb, it can be done very well. I used to live with a bunch of other construction and oil rig guys in New Orleans. Dinner was often 6 or 8 boxes of mac-n-cheese and a half dozen cans of tuna mixed in. Lunch at one of the food shacks was typically the main meal of the day. A Po-Boy (sub) with a pound of shrimp in it for $2.50 was the meal. The mac-n-cheese just got you through to the next day.
  4. My Italian grandparents called all noodles macaroni. "Pasta" is what macaroni is made from. The "pasta" makes the macaroni noodles. I suppose we could argue about this forever. That would be foolish.
  5. I'm suddenly thinking about macaroni for dinner tonight.
  6. I've never cared for any of the "jar sauces". For me they all seem too sweet. Too much sugar in them. There's enough natural sugar in the macaroni, I don't need the sauce to add to that.
  7. I buy cans of small, whole, canned tomatoes and slice them up. Fry the meat, drain the grease, and add some diced onion and garlic and basil to the tomatoes. It's usually ready about the same time the noodles are. A half hour or so.
  8. My Uncle had a kitchen in his cellar that was called "the sauce kitchen". The pot of sauce would cook for a couple of hours every Sunday while he took the family to church. Then...lunch. Around Christmas time it was called the "Calamari kitchen". ;-)
  9. I built a whole bunch of houses in Webster back in the late 1970's and early 1980's. At the time I believe the population was well under 20,000 residents, and it may have been pretty close to 10,000. I'm not sure what your argument is about.
  10. The status of "city' is about how the paperwork was filled out. Geneva is incorporated as a city. It has absolutely nothing to do with the number of residents
  11. ... because I spent all night writing political commentary. It turns your brain to mush sometimes. Funny, but sad.
  12. That would be great, but someone would have to host it. A bar can't serve food other than their own, as a general rule. Anacone's Inn in Buffalo we used to get away with it but it was mostly because Anacone's was an old-time cop bar and nobody bothered them, or us. I really miss that place. I live in an 800 SF shack on the edge of the woods. Four or five cars would be a crowd on my lawn. As much as would like to host a party, it's not really practical. And I'm not driving to Westchester. I rarely leave my area code any more.
  13. I spoke with Vonnie today. She's all in, but she pointed out that Tuesdays and Thursdays are kinda crowded inside the bar if it happens to rain outside. If anyone is interested, let me know. Otherwise I'll have lunch with 2012 Taco and his wife on either 7/15 or 7/17. Hopefully it will be outside on the deck with a nice lake view.
  14. That's a good price. I'll leave it at that. Even if you don't like it and sell it next year, you won't get hurt.
  15. We're coming up on the five year anniversary of this thread and you folks do a great job every day of posting amazing recipes and photos. Is there something else we could do? I don't have any money, so don't even suggest some sort of contest with a cash payout. Ain't gonna happen. Maybe a members "best of the best recipes" or something. Something that you learned here and turned into a regular meal that you didn't have before.
  16. My neighbor, now deceased, was Japanese and made the most incredible "sticky rice" imaginable. Plump sweet and juicy. Her rice cooker was over 100 years old and she promised to give it to me. Her daughter sold it after she died and said "tough sh**". A real sweet-heart there.
  17. The only problem would be lack of chairs and tables. It's a pretty small place.
  18. I had a third-pound chili dog with onions at Vonnies. And a beer.
  19. I live in the Town of Geneva, rather than the City of Geneva.
  20. I spoke with Vonnie's boyfriend/husband today about a GTG at their place. He said hell yeh. He mentioned the fact that on Tuesdays they have a large group of women taking up seats in the place for lunch and drinks, and on Thursdays it's a large group of retired men doing the same. If it happens to rain and we need to move indoors from the deck those would be two days to avoid. Monday the 15th or Wednesday the 17th would work before Taco finishes his visit. Let me know your thoughts.
  21. Geneva is incorporated as a city. Has been for over a hundred years. The population is just over 16,000 people, i believe, so it's a relatively small city. It's still a city, and my construction business is still an LLC even though I've done absolutely no work for several years. Was there an argument somewhere here?
  22. The lake is very calm and really pretty this morning. I'll be taking a short walk along the the north end pretty soon. I'm charging a battery for the camera right now. I hate the high taxes, but at least the lady I actually hand my cash to is nice about it. She's my neighbor, and she usually apologizes for the tax rates. I buy her a beer at the American Legion now and then, and she invites me over for dinner with her husband on occasion.
  23. A number of us are retired, so a Monday or Tuesday lunchtime GTG might work if anyone is interested. The reason I mentioned Vonnies Boathouse is because they have a large deck and a nice view of the lake. I'm open to whatever; except maybe a guy jumping out of a cake. ;-(
  24. You're guaranteed two happy days. The day you buy it and the day you sell it. Enjoy the days in between.
