  1. Thats why i dont shoot anything but 4s. 5s at the very smallest, in 3in loads. I can't remember the numbers but #4 had more than enough energy to penetrate a turkey temple over 65 yards. Where 5 and 6 lacked at long range. I think it was in an outdoor life article I read it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  2. Tf, got to love those xr shells. 535 factory turkey setup. 22in barrel. 3.5" #4 @30yrd Heard the 20ga xr are extremely backed up per demand at the factory.. took off far better than winchester had expected Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  3. grow, instead of a grain, didn't you over-seed turnips into your clovers last fall? if so how did they turn out? Thinking about incorporating a grain first of September this year, or some bulbs for a little winter mix. then frost seed clover back into it in March.
  4. I did this as well prepping a plot that I over seeded clovers into the fall prior. Sprayed it off with regular 2% mix and it killed everything but the clover, just made it go dormant for a few weeks Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  5. I was hoping the same too, This is a Browning Spec Ops cam and i love it but I'm not crazy about its recovery speed. Seems to take a while to get ready for the next video. There was not another video of these birds after this clip. I have missed out on a few good opportunities of what should have been captured with a follow up video(2nd video) Oh well, season is just beginning
  6. Check out the 2 bigger birds coming in at the end... IMG_0016.MP4
  7. I've shot a Red Dot for years, absolutely love it. Right now all of my turkey setups have a Red dot, besides one(Single bead). I Thought about trying a scope some year just to say i did it but, between i love a single bead, and or the Red Dot.
  8. Are the 20ga heavyweights #7s safe to shoot through a standard turkey choke, designed for lead? Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  9. I have saved the beard off of every red head ive ever taken. To this day I can only claim maybe half of them, i think some are in zip lock bags between 3 or 4 freezers buried. and between contests, i may have forgot and left a few at shops. I save all the big and or prettiest of tail fans as well, and one or 2 for decoying.. Eventually ill make something nice to decorate them with, nothing has really caught my eye yet to be used as a wall piece.
  10. I love the XR shells for my 12ga. But I think they shot darn near the same as the old extended range shells, can anyone find these anymore.. heard they stopped making and selling them Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  11. This year is a little tougher, being mild and not a ton of snow. Their feeding more places than a normal hard winter, IMO. Last year I think was the same way, we found the majority of ours last year in the oak woods and golden rod. Not in our plots or destination food sources Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

  13. Thats what im reading is now is the time to cut, the guy in the video i watched used young shoots, and cut them at both ends, one end at a 45 degree angle and the other just a straight cut off. It was a video the QDMA website used from, MossyOak.com. Im going to try at least a tree or 2 in a prime spot, and see how it works
  14. They. UT through the bark to the cambium layer with a sharp knife, peeled the layer back .. seated the new shoot, 2 pieces opposite sides, with graft wax. Then folded it back over and taped it off as tight as possible, then used a wood glue to seal it off with Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  15. Been trying to find time to do hand loads of TSS for my 20ga as well. Damn free time.. don't have any lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  16. Anyone here have any information on grafting trees? Ive heard about it for years and always wanted to try it. Just keep forgetting about this method. I recently watched a video where a man cuts a random 3" diameter tree(b/c the location was perfect) about 4 ft high and attaches Fresh "shoots" off of his favorite fruit producing tree into the cambium layer of the tree.. I believe i have the process down on how to do it from start to finish, according to the research but just curious if anyone else has done this with good luck? Maybe what trees are better to graft to than others.. etc.. My thought process was that the existing tree already has a root system established.. or Maybe its just easier to plant the tree as normal..
  17. I don't know much about them, never owned or operated a Kubota. But I have 2 friends that both had New Holland one was a 28hp and other was a 55hp I believe. They liked them but after a year or 2 ended up trading them in for the same thing only in Kubota.. said the Kubota was a far better machine, all the way around.. whatever that means lol. A tractor that has a bucket, a strong 3pt system and has a service dealer nearby that is reputable .. idc what the brand is (for the most part) Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  18. Do your soil test and see what would work best, but you can't beat a brassica blend with grains and clovers mixed in. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  19. Thats my problem is that there is basically zero corn planted in my area. Lol there was 1 field In corn , I planted 2 weeks afterwards. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  20. Found that out the hard way last year with my field corn. Everytime I planted it they either pulled the seed or pulled the sprout to eat the seed. Think I got like 11 stalks of corn to grow finally lol. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  21. I do plan to mix clay peas with some forage soys and grain soys this may if all goes well. My last soybean plot I disked in the soil and broadcast the soybean on top and never got to roll in or disk in the seed due to a steady rain beginning to fall. They grew perfect! This plot has been in food plot rotation for about 11 years. Surprisingly has good soil too for being in central Steuben lol. A buddy and i did an experiment in Wayne County, with Austrian peas last August in a field that hadn't been plowed in over a decade, maybe mowed every few years. Very rough and un even soil surface. We did the peas on one side of the field and brassica blend on the other side.. both plots grew much better than I expected. Not perfect, but probably atleast 50% germination out of the peas and more like 75% germ. Out of brassicas. This plot was rolled 3 or 4 times after broadcasting in several directions. I was impressed. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  22. My favorite pull behind drag for a quad is the Spring Harrow. I have several and they do a good job. They collect vegetation, roots and pull rocks from the soil, usually more than youd like it too. Also i have a 6ft disk i pull behind my sub compact tractor or quad(if the soil is dry enough) that works well too. They both require multiple passes but work well. I try to use my 4' PTO tiller on the Tractor when the soil isnt too rocky.. Last year i did all of my fall food plots in No till. Meaning i killed off the vegetation when it go to be 8" tall. I then waited until it was good and dead. Also waited for incoming rain(which was very rare this pass summer) then broadcast seed, rolled over it several times with a lawn roller and waited for rain. Every plot came up beautiful even with very minimal rain. I will be trying this with a bigger soybean/pea seed this May.. The key is to use the dead vegetation as a "Mulch Layer", it lays over the top of the seed and covers it as the roller then presses the small seed into soil. And rain then does its magic. With the bigger seed, im hoping for some decent rains so the soil is not as firm and dry when rolling the seed into, then hope for rain shortly after.. fingers crossed. Attached is 1 of my Brassica plots from this september, using this No Till method
  23. I switched to the Hypodermics from the original rage 2 years ago. I have nothing but great things to say about rage, especially the Hypos. I love them. Accidentally buried a hypodermic deep in the spine of a doe. removed the broadhead, still very sharp blades and good point at tip. 2 weeks later i sent it through a 3.5 yr old buck slightly quartering to me and out the other side, buried deep in the dirt. I have shot many broad heads(muzzy, G5, Thunderhead, Grim reaper, Rage and more..) and the only ones that i felt ever failed me were some junk things called "Hyper shock" or "After shock" or something.. mechanical garbage design.. total junk.. My backup broadhead is the G5 Montec
  24. Same here, ordering today hope to spread by weeks end or there after. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  25. The ash bore is doing a number on our ash trees. The few that are still alive don't look to have much life left in them. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
