I agree 100% it was a crappy thing to do. I was more or less saying private land is great but, when you have a bunch of people on the land that don't know or interact with one another it's the same as hunting a public spot. You just never know what people are going to pull. I have had people in my own hunting parties pull this kind of crap, not just with turkey, deer also. That's why I gave up hunting for a long time. There's no shortage of unethical hunters out there.
-
Much appreciated. Will keep that in mind.

WOW! This makes my morning look like candy apples. It's not illegal to shoot a bird off the roost on NYS. Is it crappy way of filling a tag, IMO yes it is. Like mentioned, do you have exclusive rights to the land? Are you sure he knew where you were? I get he/she/it had to know you were on the property, but that doesn't mean everyone knows where everyone else is. In my humble opinion, hunting private land without exclusive rights and you don't know or have contact with the other hunters is no different then hunting public land.

Congrats to all who killed a bird today!

I want to start by making a very sincere apology to the the guy hunting Lot 2 ( If you are a member here, if not maybe you skim the forum and will read this ) at Louise Keir this morning. If My car issues screwed up your hunt I honestly do apologize! So.... I get up, I am in lot 1 by a little after 5, make the short climb to my listening post. Gobble to my left, towards Lot 2. I think, make the hike or drive? Glad I chose to drive. I get to lot 2, someone already there. By now, it's well after first light. I turn of my Jeep and think for a minute. Do I want to go in a little late and screw up this guys hunt, or go back to lot 1. I decide to go back to lot 1. Turn the key on my retarded anti hunting Jeep. Whoop-Whoo-Who-Wh-Dead. There are no word to describe how furious I am at a frikin' machine! It was early enough I was able to call the fiancée to come give me a jump start ( about 12 minutes away ). While I am waiting, crows are sounding off and there are gobbles in mass ( I really hope that other guy nailed one). We get the anti running and head home. I'm thinking this isn't as bad as last season, but still fuming. Buy a new battery on Friday and pick up a portable jump stater for the future. As I sit stewing, I decide "NOPE! Not starting the season this way. I go out and turn the key, pops right over. I do a few laps around the community and park it and shut it down. Turn the key it fires right up again. I say screw it, if I have to call roadside I have to call roadside, and head out to my plan B spot. It's about 9 when I get there and head in. I heard and saw nothing on spot 2 this morning. I was nervous about having to call RSA, but I'll be damned if I wasn't going back out! I will make the call to hunt tomorrow when I wake at about 3:30 ( hit the snooze once or twice sometimes ). Odds are, I will be hitting the woods again tomorrow with a plan to cal RSA. Wrote down all the actual addresses of parking areas just in case.

Yep. Stay safe out there and good luck to everyone hitting the woods.

Let see those turkey guns

I looked up nimrod as well. Interesting to see the real definition VS the American English definition. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/nimrod But, it didn't really surprise me. American English changes day to day. Look at how some people greet one another in this country, "Sup". I used to ask is that a dinner invitation or are you asking what I had for dinner. But:

I always forget the movie sites I visit about once a month. Bloody Disgusting and Horror News. Sorry, I like my horror movies.

Was that shooting lefty Jeremy?

Mother! was a terrible metaphor. It wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen, but sure wasn't the best. I wanted to see it after reading all the crap on horror sites about it ( oh yeah, I have to add a few sites I forgot about to the "Other Sites " thread ), and the news making a big deal about the ending. I will say again, the ending isn't for the feint of heart. As for The Last Jedi, I am a big Star Wars fan, but they haven't been really good since the original trilogy. The Force Awakens, and Last Jedi are the product of Disney now owning the rights, dumbest thing Lucas could have done was sell to Disney!

After putting a partial new floor down in our bathroom yesterday, we decided the rain, dampness, and cool temps it was a good day to rent a few flicks from Red Box. Happy Death Day, Mother!, and that Batman Vs Superman ( which the fiancée is watching now, I have no interest ). Anyone into horror flicks, I will offer a word of warning about the movie Mother!, it's a slow burn, that leads to a finale that isn't for kids, and I know many adults that would have a hard time getting through it.

We have one. Fire pit set in the ground. I want to get some sand to drop in it to bring it up a bit for better air flow. We use it a few times a year. It's nice to sit out there with a beer or two, and maybe a nice cigar in the evenings. I have posted a couple pics of it in the past. As soon as my yard isn't a spongy swamp I have to get out there and burn off the leaves that fell in it. I dump excess charcoal from grills and the charcoal smoker in there. I don't cook on it though. The biggest reason is we camp often, and cooking over the campfire/coals has a special meaning to me and my cooking. I would loose that if I cooked over coals all the time. It wouldn't be the same if you have that flavor all the time.

Nothing really. Used to do it as a dumb teen kid thing. Then read they emit a toxin from their skin that can make people sick, slim chance, but stopped doing it all the same. Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk

Hows your Spring Turkey season looking Wilderness? Not so good it seems seeing you haven't posted one single thread or reply concerning hunting on, a HUNTING SITE! Let me break this down for you: Voters need to get downstate on board, NYC and LI. This is where the really big money is in this state, and most them just follow the leader, or pitch a fit to fit in. Now, on with your list: 1. Violent crimes from guns, while the drug issue is still there, there are more crimes in this day and age coming from terrorists then drug dealers. 2. The Welfare System isn't creating criminals. They take from money from tax payers and give scum high end cars/trucks, free housing, free food, and pay utilities. If you are already getting a free ride, no need to steal. 3. About time someone got this right. "The Violently Mental Ill"! 4. This is incoherent! I don't understand what you mean when you talk about the incorrect handling of non-violent youths: Do You have an issue with trying to rehabilitate kids? All I have to say is this: "Please Wilderness, make a post about hunting in a "hunting" forum. Please Wilderness, fill us in on your Spring Turkey Hunting plans!. Please Wilderness, tell us all about your fishing experiences! Please Wilderness, tell us all about your camping experiences! Please Wilderness, show us some damn pics of you actually being in the "Wilderness"."

He had to say that on a public forum. His wife might be reading. YAY! It's warm weather! Viva La Paco is back!

Took a minute just now to see what's biting in one of the new found ponds on my lawn. I heard we had Sturgin, looks like that was rumor. Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk

Those Eastern Newts are all over the place in the Schoharie Valley. When we camp out there you have to watch the ground where you walk after a rain storm because they come out in droves! They turn green after a few years, if I remember what I read correctly, it's because that's when they become adults. Cool little creatures for sure. Just don't put one in your mouth.

Happy birthday Bionic! I hope you enjoyed the day with friends and family, a few cold ones, and a great dinner!

Who’s putting a bird to bed Monday night ?
DirtTime replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Turkey Hunting
I might try after getting some advice from wooly. But this MFN rain is starting to pizz me off more then the late snow storms did. So I will have to wait and see. -
That's my plan B grampy, been over there a few times peeking, the areas I really like are a tad flooded out right now. It's a bit thick to try and buy a kayak to hunt from. LOL

So, make "come hither" calls the night before and hope for the best? This is going to be an interesting Spring Turkey Season for me.
